"Not at the seaside"
The best part of this hotel was the view. We could see the castle, church and through the trees, Lidl Grocery store. The pool was lovely with no towels for guests. It was shown on the internet to be seaside but was no where near the sea. We could go there by car but many without cars were stuck in a very small village to walk to restaurants at nigh […] t. "Nice simple hotel"
Beautiful views of Silves. Friendly multi lingual staff. Simple decor that is jaded in places and in need of some modernisation and "uplift". Pool was clean and furniture well maintained. Overall the hotel is clean and functional. Excellent position for lazy strolls around SilvesGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent value for money"
This is a good 3 * hotel. Although some aspects are a little tired looking and the bathroom was in need of renovation we found the service, cleanliness etc made for excellent value as breakfast was also included. The swimming pool was also appreciated although we would have liked a little more shade. We really liked Silves.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"lovely to visit this charming hotel again"
We have now stayed at this hotel many times. It may be a bit dated but it is very good value for money. We love the views. Staff friendly and helpful. Will be going back again in a few months.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
On the plus side, the hotel is clean has stunning views of the castle. On the down side it is looking a bit tired, especially the bedroom. The staff are impersonal and find it difficult to smile. The continental breakfast was basic, lacking imagination, and the coffee, from a machine, was atrocious. I am unlikely to stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Have stayed in this hotel many times. We love the atmosphere there. The bathrooms are a little tired looking, but there is always hot water. The best feature is the views across to the historic town of Silves.

The most attractive feature of this hotel is its location. On a small hill-side by the Arade river, it offers stunning views of the first capital of the Algarve, Silves, on the other side and right opposite. A very reasonable hotel, it is, however, quite dated and it could well be updated: old-fashioned hair-dryers, old-fashioned and very small TV sets. old-fashioned mattresses (although not uncomfortable), old-fashioned furniture. Having spent two nights there, we were faced with the unpleasant surprise of the fact that the air-conditionning was not working in our room and asked for it to be fixed or to move us to another room. We were reassured that that would be done, but nothing happened, which turned out to be very uncomfortable owing to the heat you can feel in the Algarve in August. Upon our complaint, we were actually moved to a different room on the second night and the staff was kind enough to have charged us half price for the first night to make up for the discomfort... Breakfast was fine and quite what one would expect in a 3 star hotel. Facilities offer a good outdoor swimming pool and garden with a children's area, outdoors car-parking and a small wi-fi area under payment. Since the organisation of the building develops downwards, breakfast is served on the top floor, where the Reception also works, so rooms immediately below this level turn out to be quite noisy, especially in the early morning. We found it quite expensive for what they offer, this being mostly due to August being the high season and the fact that there was a very popular festivity being held in Silves at the time: the Medieval Fair (between the 8th and the 17th August). Anyway... it was VERY expensive for the kind of hotel. All in all, we retained the great views of Silves one can enjoy from the espelanade and balconies facing that side.
"Good value in the winter months"

Stayed for a couple of nights in early April. A bit dated inside and could do with updating, but clean and tidy. Paid 33 Euro per night for bed and continental breakfast. Breakfast was good, plenty to choose and help yourself to as much as you like. Cold meat, cheese, yoghurt, fresh rolls, hot drinks and juice. Only has limited facilities available in low-season. No pool, no restaurant, evening bar drinks are available but you need to ask at reception. A major problem was Wi-Fi. It's not free and you need to register a credit card to use it. I think most people expect better these days. So, for a short break in the winter it's not bad !! In the summer it's more expensive and given the dated appearance I don't think I would go there.
"Only hotel in town"

Lovely location at the side of the river and facing the castle. Rooms are dated but dining room and bar area very pleasant and the gardens and pool are very nice. Mostly used by tour buses who stay the night and dissappear the following morning. The only gripe was the sullen reception man who checked us in and out..The other ones were fine.
"Lovely peaceful hotel!"

Lovely clean hotel, great daily maid service. Continental breakfast with a good choice of cereal fruits yoghurt and juices hot drinks breads rolls meats and cheeses and cake! All kept topped up by the staff... Nice pool area with lovely gardens... We were in 301 which overlooked the town with views of the castle and church from our sun terrace which was great... Rooms cleaned daily and bedding changed too. Bar drinks and food reasonably priced... 24hour reception which is handy too.. Reception staff are helpful if you need taxis or travel info...Nice 10 minute stroll away from the town... Thoroughly enjoyed a nice relaxing break here and would stay here again... Recommended!!

"A decent 3 star Hotel"

The hotel is what we expected having read most of the recent reviews. It is the only hotel in Silves and has no competition. The facilities are a little dated. However the cleanliness is of a high standard. We stayed here for 6 nights going over to the 2nd week of July. Our room was on the lower level with views of the castle which was lit up at night. The room was very basic with a small balcony which had one tiny white plastic table with 2 plastic chairs. The breakfast was continental with plenty to eat with good variety of fruits cold meats cheese, cereals etc. The hotel pool was very clean with plenty of sun loungers, the only draw back was the pool bar service was hit and miss and on a couple of days when the pool was fairly crowded did not open until after 1PM. So no cold drinks available in the heat of the mid day sun in July. Silves is a charming town away from the regular tourist resorts in the Algarve. Plenty of good restaurants and all very reasonably priced. There is a train station which is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. You can get a train to most of the towns on the Algarve to Lagos in one direction and to Faro in the other direction. The prices are very cheap just a few euros to most destinations. However some of the stations are a couple of miles away from the town center, but not a problem plenty of bus and taxi services. The hotel has extensive gardens by the pool, lovely to walk around and see the many variety of plants. This hotel is very quiet and suited us as we wanted to visit Silves and have a peaceful holiday. Ideal location for a relaxing break .
"First class hotel a short walk from the city"

The Hotel Colina des Mouros is set a little apart from the town of Silves, separated by the Roman bridge over the river. As it is also set back from the road, it's a very quiet location. We had a nice enough room, with a view of the town, but not special. On the other hand the hotel has an excellent swimming pool set in a spacious garden, with helpful bar service. Breakfast was OK apart from disgusting coffe from a machine. Silves is famous for its Moorish castle and Baroque Cathedral. We made the steep climb to see the Cathedral twice, only to find it closed both times. On the other hand the castle was a rewarding visit, even in great heat. The cost was surprisingly low for such a hotel, perhaps because Silves is some distance from the ocean.
"One week Stay Beg. of July 2014"

Thank you to the friendly reception staff who were always helpful with bus routes and information. We thoroughly enjoyed our week break at the hotel, just arrived home yesterday. I checked out the trip advisor reviews before I booked which I spent some days choosing and found for the price this hotel the best for what was available. Advantages to this hotel - Quiet location and seems safe Lovely gardens and pool area Clean hotel - rooms looked after and cleaned every day Nice views A place to relax for a rest Nice food Drinks reasonably priced When we left we had a feeling of wanting to come back Accommodated children and responded to requests Building in good state of repair Disadvantages Probably not the best for young children but this can be managed and we felt considering the circumstances in the Algarve at present it was safe as not many people around. Only one TV station in English - Sky News my child kept on flicking through the channels saying 'I will find Bugs Life' even though I couldn't convince him he wouldn't ! No WIFI around the hotel but actually I think it was good to get away from all that WFI tech rubbish which we all get tied up with - I don't think you need it on holiday. I would rather have a cheaper relaxing holiday. Had to wait a while between meal courses when big groups of Polish arrived for a two night stay, other than that only around 10 others seemed to be staying there in between. The big thing for us was transport - the buses are complicated although everyone helpful the lady at the EVA bus information ticket office in the town was very helpful but still it was hard work, best to hire a car really but I didn't want to drive as I drive for work. You could easily spend £100 on bus fares to explore the resorts in 6 days. Food - nice but sometimes the same each night (especially the starter) difficult with a young child as evening meal starts from 6.30pm. We worked with it and it worked for us just for the week but hard work for the young one I think. Breakfast was continental with cereals, cornflakes, bran flakes and muesli. Coffee awful, but English Tetley Tea and hot chocolate which was good. Swimming Pool not heated and was cold but some would say I am whimpish over that! There were some people in it come the end of the week when it was 29 degrees outside temp. Had to pay for a safe 2 euros a day with a 25 euro deposit. Weather was hit and miss although much better than the UK so didn't bother me coldest 23 degrees hottest 29 degrees with very very short blast of drizzle for half an hour on one day. Nothing in this life is perfect but this could be close to it for what we wanted. Time away from the UK weather and hassle. I'd go back tomorrow if I could - I will be thinking about all the good memories we had there thank you Just to point out Silves nice at night, Lidl's excellent only 5 mins walk - check out the 1 euro wine!, explore the castle, and restaurant in it, the tourist info. box where you catch the bus very helpful, train 5 or 6 euros by taxi, which will take you to Lagos. Albufeira only accessable by bus due to resort is miles from the station - didn't try the train this is what I have found out!
"An average hotel"

This hotel is OK. Clean and the room had a nice view of the castle, but the hotel has no real charm or character. Breakfast is very boring. They also charge for wifi, which seems crazy when most of the bars and coffe shops in town have it for free.
"Excellent for a short break"
06/18/14 lisalooloo staffordshire
Stayed at Colina dos Mouros from 13th - 16th June for a short break. Hotel has wonderful views over the castle if you are located at the back of the hotel. Breakfast is simple but ample for your needs and other meals from the daily menu are not overpriced at all. Silves town is a short walk over the Roman bridge and worth a visit and walk around the streets. Various restaurants can be found there and food and drink are very cheap indeed. For a change of scenery we travelled to Armaco de Pera by taxi (20 euros) where there is a lovely beach and again various places to eat which are incredibly cheap. The only problem that we experienced while we were there was that we could not confirm the pick up arrangements with Green hopper bus company despite several attempts trying to log on to the internet and the reception staff trying also over the weekend. This ended with having to pay for a taxi back to Faro airport at a cost of 88 euros but not the Hotels problem so please be aware if you are using shuttle arrangements from the airport!
