Strathallan Guest House - Edinburgh

It turned out okay after a disconcerting beginning. There was no host on the premises when we arived after a very long drive. Fortunately we met a young woman on her way out who let us in, and we found our name on an envelope with room key inside. Room acceptable but shabby, TV not working, internet access down, and no off-street parking spaces available […] to us. Calls to owner went unanswered for a long time, and he was not at all friendly or helpful when we finally spoke to him. There was a good hot shower, and the woman who served breakfast the next morning was pleasant, and at some point we were able to get access to internet if we went downstairs to dining room. It's a bit of a walk to main part of city but that was okay with us. All in all, somewhat disappointing and not worth the price we paid. Read more

Our room was huge. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The guest house it about a 20 minute walk from the Royal Mile, but there is a bus stop just steps from the front door. My husband and I had a wonderful time and would absolutely stay here again.

Wonderful staff - a great place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the room very neat & tidy. The breakfasts were well cooked. We loved the location. It was close to everything. And there were enough places to eat at night near by. The parking out the back was very handy as we did not need to use the car the whole visit.

Fantastic little Guest House a stone's throw away from Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh's finest asset in my opinion! While the room was relatively modest in size, it had plenty of character and views of the stunning scenery. The hotel is more of a B&B. It had a wonderful breakfast (cooked to order everyday) and off street parking (saves lots of $$$ in the city). We stayed over Easter and the house was full. Great breakfasts, served up by very jolly ladies, set us up nicely for the day, which we started by walking into town; the 20 minute stroll was just right after all that cooked food. The owner and his staff were very friendly and helpful and always ready for a chat. If you don't want to walk there is a bus […] stop 50 yards away from the front door and the ride into town is 5 minutes. If you do like to walk then this place is also very handy for the Salisbury Crags from which you can look down over the city. Would I recommend this Guest House? Visiting daughter at Edinburgh University, this friendly B&B was very convenient for Pollock Halls (where 1st year students live in their thousands). Some fun local restaurants (Heller's Kitchen stood out) and only a short taxi/bus ride from central Edinburgh. Both rooms we had were in the back, so quiet for us rural types. Highly recommended.

We found this hotel very welcoming with a very well stocked room, not just 2 teabags per day but a jar of them and plenty of coffee milk and sugar. Det tar ca 15 minuter att gå till Royal Mile vilket kändes mycket bra då det finns både pubar och affärer utmed sträckan. Vårt rum var ganska litet och toaletten var mycket trång. Våra kompisar fick ett rum längst upp i huset med ett takfönster som inte gick att öppna. Att bo i detta rum när solen gassar på ute är näst intill olidligt.

Folk var hyggelig og frokost ok, men vi var ikke fornøyd med rommets komfort og renheten. Mye stov og gamle møbler. Alt for lite bad. Når vi kom først kveld, måtte vi ringe på en telefon nummer som var strevet på døra for å få nokkel til rommet vart. En bedre renheten har gjort en stor forskjell på den Guest House
