"Great place for an annual get-away."
I was delighted with my stay at Clear Lake Cottages. The staff was friendly. The cottage was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The grounds were well maintained. The pool and deck were clean. The deck furniture was in good condition. I had been expecting the cottages to be on a bluff with a view of the lake but was pleased to discover that the cottages […] were right at lake level. My stay was during the week and the lake was totally peaceful; I can't testify to how it would be on weekends. Had I stayed longer I would have rented a kayak. "Clear Lake Cottages & Marina"
The Clear Lake Marina cottages are located in a beautiful spot right on the edge of Clear Lake. Although the town itself is pretty shabby and run down the cottages are nice and well appointed. Our only problem is that we didn't have hot water on the first day of our stay and the dishwasher inside the cottage did not work. Also, they only have housekeeping […] services every other day and so the rooms can get a little messy or dirty if there are 3-4 people staying. It would be nice to have daily housekeeping service especially for the price that you pay. The cottage was priced at $200/night in the off-season so it isn't exactly cheap. The drive around the Lake from the South to the North along Hwy 20 is very nice. There are some scenic vistas along the way although the towns along the way looked pretty poor and undeveloped. It was hard to find a decent restaurant. The staff at the cottages were nice and friendly. They let us borrow a DVD player since we had a couple of DVDs that we had brought to watch over the weekend. It is a quiet and peaceful location, good for fishing but not much else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place to stay"
Quiet relaxing location right on Lake Clear, spotlessly clean cottage, comfy bed and very friendly staff. Cathy the manager was exceptional and provided us with plates, cutlery and glasses so we could BBQ instead of eating out. We had a great time and highly recommend it toanyone looking for a quiet getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very friendly front desk girl, very helpful too. The most upscale facility in the entire town (granted there's not much to the town...) The only thing is that the hotel is in the location where it smells kind of funky because of the algae, but that's not the hotel it's the town, so other parts of the town is even worse. But once you're in the hotel […] room you don't smell it at all. Other than that the room was great and they even had a cute little hotel goose walking around. The only issue with the hotel was that the rooms are cleaned only every other day for guests staying more than one day. This is unusual and given the price, not very satisfactory. The other problem was with the lake, not the hotel. There was no possibility of swimming due to an infestation of green, foul-smelling algae, which seemed to be along most […] of the lake coastline. The cause is probably fertilizer in agricultural run-off. This infestation would not encourage us to make a return visit to Clear Lake. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed our stay at clear lake cottages. The room was especially clean and has been recently updated. The only thing we would have liked is a comfortable sitting chair instead of just table w/ side chairs. We would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Really? No phones in room - OR hairdryers?"
Yes, we checked in late (7:00 pm) - but the office was closed and our key hung on the door. Apparently we missed the "briefing" that our room would not receive ANY housekeeping services until AFTER we checked out from our two day stay. W H A T ? Uh-huh. We left for the day and came back to our wet towels (oh yeah, the water doesn't get hot either - […] warm only for that shower) and unmade beds. So, why so much money for the first night? I don't get it. When I checked out on day three of our two night stay, the desk clerk/owner was nonchalant. She informed me that the hairdryers were kept in the office...yeah, that's what I want to do...pad over to a CLOSED office with wet hair in cold weather. Office doesn't open until 9:00 am...unless you call them...from your OWN phone... In fairness to them, the room/cottage was big, and the beds comfortable. But really, no soap in the bathroom? You have to go back out into the main room where the sinks are to get soap for the shower...sure hope YOUR blinds are closed...aaack! A lot of money for inferior service, to say the least. "Great little cottages"
We chose this place as it was convenient to where we were spending the day, And it was by far the nicest looking place around. The cottages appear to be recently renovated, have decent coffee and coffee makers, big TV's and soft rugs and towels. But the neighborhood itself is quite low-rent.Genuine Expedia guest review
these cottages were very nice but they are located on the lower end of clear lake and the rotting algae is a huge problem there!!! The horrible smell makes one gag. we had to leave the area or stay inside. we asked for our money back but they said that was not an option. we will never stay at clear lake again and we will tell everyone we know about […] the horrible smell. yuk. "Clear Lake stench"
My wife and I made this reservation in celebration of her birthday. We were looking forward to a quiet, peaceful stay complete with picturesque waterfront. However, as soon as we got near the lake, our senses were assaulted by the 'raw sewage' smell. Later, while sequestered in our room away from the smell, we went online to find that this is the norm, […] particularly at certain times of the year. If we so much as opened our door a crack, the horrid smell would invade our room. Consequently we chose not to patronize the local restaurants, but prepared our own snacks in the room. At checkout time, we packed up and were gone. Had I know about the smell, I would not have booked here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"What a nice place"

We just stayed one night at the Clear Lake Cottages and Marina, and really enjoyed it. The cottages are really nice, clean and comfy. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were a bit worried when driving through Clearlake, as there are some really run down cottages/cabins for rent, and were delighted when we drove into this resort. We only stayed one night, but it would be really fun to stay for an extended time. Lots of people fishing, boating and relaxing. It's easy to meet neighbors at the cottages, and everyone we met were really nice. We enjoyed sitting on our cute little deck overlooking the lake sipping wine we bought on our trip to Napa! Only downside was that the lake is a bit low, and we couldn't launch our boat there because of the shallow water, but when water is up, a great place to have a boat!
"WOW! Beautiful, Cozy, Romantic!"
06/08/14 LearyTraveler Oroville, California
I was so thrilled when we pulled up the the Clear Lake Cottages and Marina. You could tell right away just from the sign and the landscaping that this was going to be a nice place to stay. I was not disappointed! Walking into the lobby the lady in the front office was extremely friendly. She advised us on different places to eat and gave us a 10% off coupon for a restaurant down the street. It didnt take us long at all to get checked in. Our cabin was cabin #13 which was a couple of cabins away from the street and a few cabins away from the lake. Honestly I dont think it matters much where your cabin is because the ease of access to the lake and the pier area are really easy and short. The cabins are extremely well taken care of and you can tell have recently been remodeled. They are VERY clean! When you open the door you are greeted to an air conditioned room, while it is definitely "cozy" it was plenty big enough for what we needed it for. It has a bathroom with a shower and tub combo, and a small pantry area with a coffee pot, and a microwave and a fridge. The bed was outstanding!! I have never slept comfortably on a hotel bed before and the bed and pillows were amazing. The bathroom is extremely clean and has a tub/shower combo. The water pressure is awesome, and the bath towels are extremely fluffy and comfy!! Sometimes hotels will skimp in that area. These towels are large and very nice. The beach was very easily accessible. The water was pretty shallow and rocky, and the algae was pretty bad. I don't think I would have wanted to swim in the water in this area. However they DO have a pool that I didn't have a chance to check out but it looked beautiful! We also quite liked the pier area. It was beautifully maintained and had chairs out on the grassy area so you could sit and have a drink or some food and watch the sunset or just chill out and watch the lake. I will definitely come here again and stay here again. It was so romantic and quiet, and the people were very nice as well.
"Cute cottages right on the water"

As we drove thru the run-down town of Clear Lake (and having passed several grungy, sad cottage places), we were wondering what we got ourselves into with a stay at the Clear Lake Cottages. Imagine our delight and surprise wehn we pulled into an immaculate and landscaped parking lot for the Clear Lake Cottages! The place is a jewel, the staff very accommodating and the water views soothing. Our room (#16) was steps from the water. It was very spacious and clean, and the bed was comfy. I took one star off because the pool has solar heating that didn't seem to do much (way too cold for ME), and there is no jacuzzi. Also, the tv in our room was miles away from the bed --- hard for us to watch in comfort. But those are minor details and I will definitely return when we want a relaxing get-away.
"We're back & still love this place"
05/12/14 TheBlum Novato, California
Hey, if you are coming to Clearlake to find things to do, places to go and excitement, get over it. This is not the destination for you. Why do my wife and I love this place? In part is because we love Cottage #27 right on the water. In part it is because this is a sleepy little town and that means it is more quiet than the some of the other more frequented area towns. If you want peace and quiet and good accommodations at a fair price and a place to enjoy peace and quiet, this is it.
"Groupon deal visit"
This place caught my attention on a Groupon deal, so we tried it out with our family. Our cottage was beautifully facing the lake view, was clean, and staff very friendly. This was intended to be a first-time fishing trip for our little ones. Unfortunately, the famous fishing lake produced no fish on our trip (due to our novice fishing). We stayed at the resort the entire two days as there is nothing to do or see in town. There was no foul smell of algae on our visit, but the lawn area was full of dog poop which no one seems to care about. Sad to say, but this will be our one & only trip to Clear Lake. Very disappointing.....
"Very pleasantly surprised!"

I haven't lived in Clearlake since 1994 and I was dreading staying in the city. When visiting we had usually stayed in Santa Rosa. This time a family emergency brought me home and I needed to be close. I searched online and asked some local friends. This was the only place recommended and I was so pleased. The cottage (19) was very clean. VERY CLEAN! It was quiet and peaceful and safe. The bed was super comfy and the staff was great. I will definitely be staying there in the future!
"Charming and Clean. Beckons a Return Visit"
03/14/14 D L Troy, Illinois
The Good: Clearlake Resorts and Marina is a charming place. The grounds are impeccable and the rooms are comfortable in a "less is more" kind of way. This facility appears fresh as it had a MAJOR restoration a few years ago. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating (For example, we had a mechanical problem with our Hertz rental car which they helped us in resolving). As before mentioned, this facility was renovated and the owners obviously put a LOT of money and time into remaking the Clearlake Cottages and Marina. This property is pristine and the entire package is simply a pleasant lodging experience. The rooms are very clean (I'm a stickler) with a decor both relaxing and cheerful. Even though our "double-double" cabin (#22) was near the street, it was reasonably quiet with outside noise a minimum. Others have suggested requesting a cabin near the lake for the quiet, but for us it was not an issue. Besides, every cabin is somewhat "near the lake" and a morning walk around the grounds with the morning coffee proved a nice start to the day. Overall, I have no complaints. But I will point out that these are cottages and thus you should not expect a luxurious and large bathroom. Our #22, and probably others, was equipped with the common arrangement of commode and the standard tub/shower combination enclosure in the bathroom. A little plain? Perhaps, but it was CLEAN and ADEQUATE. The modern double sinks (nice touch) and vanity were cornered in the main room not unlike many newer hotels. Quality toiletries and hair dryer provided. Down the street is the "Main Street Bar and Grille" which has a 10% guest discount arrangement with the Clearlake Cottages and Marina. Great local place, more of a casual restaurant than a bar. The old time locals obviously like it and they serve an AWESOME breakfast which is available all day (try the "Hobo" special. I had it two days in a row and find myself craving it as I write this). And if you like an occasional donut (or two or three), do try "Castle Donuts" which is also nearby. They offer TASTY "local" donuts. We road tripped out of Clearlake to the redwood forest areas to the north and found the location perfect, especially with Napa Valley as our south destination upon leaving. Less than an hour and a half drive from the Sacramento International Airport, Clearlake proved an ideal base location for exploring a beautiful and too often overlooked area of California. Now, the bad: Clearlake, as a town, has obviously seen better days. The changing demographics now consist of many "residents" seemingly content to exist on the generous California public assistance (as reported by more than one local). Thus, a weak tax base appears evident by the of lack of adequate sidewalks, unkempt parks and many streets which need some attention. However, EVERYONE we encountered in the community of Clearlake was friendly and courteous to us obvious visitors. There was no excessive litter and I saw very little graffiti. I was traveling with my elderly mother and neither of us ever felt uncomfortable or in danger. In my experience, although the town appears tired and and offers little entertainment, Clearlake proved a good destination due to location and the natural beauty of its' surroundings. Overall, I rate the Clearlake Cottages and Marina highly as it provided a pleasant experience and I hope to visit again.
"Nothing to do in Clear Lake"
03/10/14 Janet01234 Lodi, California
The Clear Lake Cottages & Marina were very nice but their is nothing to do in Clear Lake! If you plan on staying in the cottages during your entire stay than I would recommend this location but if you want to do something during the day or evening then go somewhere else....very disappointing. The surrounding area is high poverty not a place you would want to walk around. No good restuartants.
"We loved it!"

Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by the staff and given a tour to show us where everything was. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Our dog was greeted with open arms and provided with treats, a bed and a set of dog dishes. The grounds were well kept and the lake views beautiful. Highly recommend this place!
