Hotel Velamar - Albufeira

We booked 11 nights in this hotel and we would have been happy to stay longer but our schedule did not allow it. Hotel Velamar is the best value for money hotel that we have ever stayed in. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has four floors and the restaurant is on the fourth floor with panoramic views of the sea and surrounding countryside […] making breakfast and very pleasant meal. Our only complaint was that the bed was hard. The location is very good, there is a wide range of inexpensive restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel and the buses to/from Albufeira stop close to the hotel. Read more

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at the Velamar at the end of March. We were booked in for a week but unfortunately had to cut our stay short by 3 days because my girlfriend's grandmother died. Up to then, it was OK. Leaky shower, broken light in bedroom, awful coffee: but hey, you get what you pay for and it was cheap and clean. But when my girlfriend […] informed the staff at reception that we had to leave early and the reason why, the reaction of the staff was appalling. Not only did they not even express sympathy of any kind, but were positively surly when we asked if we could print out our boarding passes, as we had to book a new flight and our original passes would not suffice. When my girlfriend asked the receptionist if she could call our airport transfer company to change our pick-up to the following day, she was asked did she not have her own phone to use? I asked to speak to the manager 3 times in 2 days but was told he was away on business, had just popped out and was unavailable. In all the years I have been staying in hotels, I have never, ever encountered staff as impolite, surly, dispassionate, downright rude and lacking in basic humanity or compassion as those at Hotel Velamar. I can only say that I hope that if any of the staff ever experience a family crisis while on holiday that they are dealt with in a far more humane manner than we were. Read more

I put overall rating of 3, but more accurately it's a 3.5. The breakfasts were very good. The room was clean, but we asked for a double bed and we received a strange hybrid of twin beds put side by side to look like a king, but were made up as 2 twins. We had a room on the ground floor and found the noise from the bar easily penetrated our room. Our […] side of the hotel faced a residential area and we discovered rather soon after arrival that this Portugese neighbourhood had many barking dogs. The hotel is a bit far from major beaches and communities, that is, not within 45 minutes walk. There is one small beach about 15 minute walk away. My partner & I stayed in this hotel from Aug 27th-Sept 6th. We both found the staff v.friendly & welcoming. The level of cleanliness was excellent everywhere in the hotel & around the pool. The bedroom/ensuite was cleaned every day.The pool was small - not really for swimming but was great to cool off in. It wasn't v.busy around the pool by day so we […] always had plenty sun chairs but this could be to do with the time of year that WE were there. There were lovely restaurants close by & like the cost of accommodation in the hotel, were v.affordable. We went to a few cafes v.closeby each day & the restaurants we could recommend were the O Assador & The 3 Maria's. We did find that it was a bit out from Albufeira (15 mins in a taxi) & while the taxis & buses were v.cheap, it could a little expensive when paying a return journey for both of us to the city. We really enjoyed the open top bus around Albufeira which took about an hour & a half & was "get on/stop off" anywhere for 24 hours at a v.reasonable rate. Would highly recommend this. Very clean hotel with helpful staff. The room and bathroom were large but needed more power points.Good air conditioning. Close to a busy road but excellent sound proof windows. The Quality of the accomodation is well above average for a 3 Star Hotel. The Room was very comfortable and clean. The Staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is good for a quiet holiday - recommend for Couples or young families. We were delighted with our stay in the Velamar hotel. Christina at reception was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was spotless. Really enjoyed our short 5-day break in Portugal staying at the Hotel Velamar. The rooms were big and spacious and the bed was enormous. Lovely bar and the breakfast was as enyoyable as the picturesque surroundings. All excellent. Will visit again.

Et dejligt hotel med en "familie hotel" atmosfære uden at være omklamrende. God service hele døgnet. Central beliggenhed 15 minutter fra dejlig badestrand. Gode busforbindelser lige uden for døren. God sminningpool areal og minirestaurant. Vi kommer der gerne igen.
