Hotel Manoir Atkinson - Valparaiso

The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating to one's needs and schedule. Hotel is very safe. Only issue: there is a Lutheran church across the street that rings bells every half hour. The problem is: this continues throughout the night. Ask for a room facing away from the church.

This feels more like a B&B than a hotel - it is small, built out of a130+ year old home, but very comfortable, not stuffy. The multilingual, very helpful staff will help you find your way around a complicated city. My wife and I stayed at the Manior Atkinson Hotel during a very quick visit to Valparaiso in late November and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You can find cheaper accommodations in Valpo, but this one is a bargain for the price. The staff was extremely helpful during our stay. Holding our bags for us when we arrived before check-in and again as we ventured […] out for more sightseeing after checking out. They were able to provide easy to follow directions, good recommendations for places to see, and it was all done with a smile. Muchas Gracias. Breakfast was included and was quite pleasant. A great way to start the day off. We stayed in room 4, what appeared to be the smallest room in the hotel, but I would say it was more cozy than cramped. Room and bathroom were clean, and good furniture and fixtures. The location was perfect for our stay. A short walk (albeit up many stairs) from the Plaza Sotomayor, where one can easily catch the metro from the Puerto stop, or any other transportation methods. The view from the hotel is also spectacular. Climb up to the roof terrace and enjoy the beautiful vistas of Valparaiso during the day or night. This vantage point was worth the price of the hotel by itself. You will not find a more beautiful street in Valpariso than Atkinson. A number of fine restaurants are within a couple minute walk. We would definitely recommend Cafe Color for a cup of coffee or tea and a light meal. No english but a helpful and courteous staff. I have no reservations about recommending this hotel to any of my friends or relatives. You will not regret your decision. Read more

We were in room 5, with the shared terrace and spiral staircase to the roof outside our window. Although it was a bit odd when other people were out on the terrace or climbing the stairs, it was not a significant problem and I would definitely want to stay at this hotel, and in that room, again if I ever return to Valparaiso. There was a party every […] night in the plaza below the hotel (at the bottom of the hill), which started about 2+ am and lasted to the morning sunlight hours. The conga drums did not really bother us, though, nor our friends in rooms 6 and 7. The included breakfast was a sit down served meal that was very nice and sufficiently filling. Restaurants are pricey on top of the hill, though there is one sandwich shop that is cheaper, and a kind of hippy-looking place called "Color Cafe" was more reasonably priced for lunch. A walk down the hill gets you access to a lot of alternative and cheaper choices (like those outrageous "Completo" hot dogs). Read more
