Great hotel. Urban oasis in the middle of the busiest part of NYC. 1 block from Rockefeller and Times Square, close to some great restaurants, and a short walk to Bryant Park/Broadway/even 34th. Only complaints are the squashable pillows (they kind of deflate in the middle of the night) and the lack of natural light (tough to wake up, even at 11am). Initially we had planned to stay on Times Square at the Double Tree but this was close enough and ratings were good so we we decided to stay at The Sanctuary and have NO REGRETS. This year i decided to make my annual holiday trip with my niece now 6 years old a two day trip. I was very pleased with this hotel! The location was great. We could walk to Rockefeller center, radio city music hall, Times Square, American girl place, FAO Swartz and shopping along fifth avenue. Pros: very friendly staff; very personable; learned your name and used it; introduced themselves at the front desk; the concierge service was outstanding. The location is great if you want to be close to Times Square and Rockefeller Center without being on the main streets. It's 1-2 blocks from each of these locations! Free wi-fi and breakfast. Cons: […] while the breakfast is free, it's mostly carbs, no protein or fruit. The restaurant at the top of the hotel would be a nice setting in warm weather, but not so much in cool weather. Best kept secret with a great staff! Great location and best of all...NO SECRET FEES!! HOLLER BACK :) There was a little blip.. they weren't able to add a side of chicken to my food order and proceeded to give me $22 chicken entree + my food order...TOO MUCH! This hotel was wonderful. The rooms are small, but you're not in NYC to spend time in the hotel. The staff was some of the friendliest and most helpful staff I've ever had and you can't beat the location. Blocks from Rockefeller, Times Square, and MOMA and an easy walk to most other attractions (Central Park, Empire State Bldg, etc).

Loved, loved our stay at the Sanctuary! The room was a nice retreat from the busy Times Square area, which was a short block away. Yes, the shower is in the same room as the bed, but the heavy curtain created privacy just fine. It reminded me of a few hotels in Germany and Austria that also had this set up. Bed was comfy and we did not hear street noise […] or hallway sounds. My daughter did not feel well on the last day. The 100 degree heat didn't help. The front desk staff was very kind in offering suggestions of things to do nearby that kept us out of the heat and crowds. Loved the complimentary Internet service in our room. The only thing that was less than stellar was the info I got from the concierge regarding tickets to the show Sister Act. He said he had a way to see what shows would have discount tickets at the TKTS booth the day ahead of the general public. He said no discount tickets would be available and the show was sold out for the week. He offered to get tickets for us through a broker he knew for $225 a piece. I waited until the next day and bought tickets from the TKTS booth at 40% face value. Tickets were also available for the next day too. Glad I didn't jump at going through the broker. Besides this, the front desk staff was wonderful. I would definitely stay here again. Read more

I would not use this hotel again at the price I paid. For half that price it would be a reasonable place to stay. Good location, clean and modern, but very small room with outside window to a constuction site. Ingeneral we felt like being in a dungeon.The included continental breakfast is only a bit better than what one expects from a Comfort Inn.

The best part of the hotel is it's location. Just a block off the start of Times Square and broadway and within walking distance (20 blocks) from Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building and Macys, you just can't beat where it's at. It is a smaller hotel, you won't get a view from your window and the rooms are pretty tight, but you have […] a great continental breakfast in the morning which runs until 10:30am so you can sleep in and still go grab a pastry or some cereal and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you plan to go to a Yankees game, the hotel is right next to the BD4 subway entrance which runs straight to Yankee Stadium. We loved our stay and would highly recommend this to anyone in NYC hoping to hit the sights of Times Square and see a Broadway show- you can't have a better location. My husband and I stayed at Sanctuary on a quick overnight getaway to see a show and spend a night in New York. The hotel is half a block from all the action in Times Square but you would never know it - it really is a little Sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle! The rooms are small - the bathroom sink and shower are literally in the guest room to maximize space - but nicely appointed and decorated and more than adequate for a short city stay. Most importantly everything was sparkling clean. Service top notch from the front desk and doorman and the concirge took care of dinner reservations for us - at exactly the kind of place we wanted. We just got home from our weekend in New York. We weren't sure about the hotel since I booked it on the internet. What a treat. The exterior of the 106 year old building has a great charm. The inside is completely redone into a modern, funky decor. The room was cruise ship small, but well done and well appointed. There was a huge leather headboard. […] The bathroom and shower were tiled in a leather-look porcelain. The shower had a wonderful rain head. The staff was great. The concierges, Freddy and Brandon, were pleasant and helpful. Brandon sat with us at the bar and got to know us and then made our dinner reservations for us. The Siberian bartender was also great, though I neglected to get her name. That may have had something to do with the drinks she was pouring! Breakfast was included in the price of the room. They had a very nice continental breakfast. If I had any complaints, it would be the cleaning crew were awfully loud for 8:00 on a Sunday morning. We may have been in the city that doesn't sleep, but we do. But, we will be back. We spent part of our drive home planning our next trip to NY. Room Tip: Remember that when you come to New York, you don't come to spend all your time in your room. You just come back to the room to change and sleep. Stayed overnight to attend the ballet and found the Sanctuary well located and quite comfortable. The rooms are small as you would expect in a boutique hotel. Breakfast is provided in the bar area and is a simple continental style meal. Parking available at public lot across the street with tn dollar discount.
