"Affordable Quickie in NY"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012

comfy bed, nice bathroom, great staff at front desk, wireless access easy, computer in Lobby new and rapid. Parking garage reasonable rate. Great spot nearby:EatIly--check it out for restaurants and goodies to bring home. Only improvement that could be made is quality of towels.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

I would not use this hotel again at the price I paid. For half that price it would be a reasonable place to stay. Good location, clean and modern, but very small room with outside window to a constuction site. Ingeneral we felt like being in a dungeon. The included continental breakfast is only a bit better than what one expects from a Comfort Inn.

"1/2 Block from TKTS but quiet as a country inn"
Very friendly staff across the board- everything about the hotel was quite nice- the location cannot be beat as it is literally 1/2 block off Times Square and in the heart of the Theater District. The name is ideal for this property as you escape the density of the sea of people into a quiet respite, a Sanctuary.. of style and elegance and relaxation. […] Needed flowers for the room before arrival and the staff made all the arrangements so when we got to the room it was perfumed with roses-Only down side is no where to sit in the room outside of the bed and the desk chair so we spent our time in the lobby where there are many small nooks to have a quiet conversation over some libations. Definitely staying here again Read more
"Location Can't be Beat!"
My husband and I stayed at Sanctuary on a quick overnight getaway to see a show and spend a night in New York. The hotel is half a block from all the action in Times Square but you would never know it - it really is a little Sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle! It has an edgy, hip feel, but not alienating to us aging boomers! Full disclosure: we […] own a hotel so we have a different view than most - sometimes more forgiving, sometimes higher expectations. The rooms are small - the bathroom sink and shower are literally in the guest room to maximize space - but nicely appointed and decorated and more than adequate for a short city stay. Most importantly everything was sparkling clean. Service top notch from the front desk and doorman and the concirge took care of dinner reservations for us - at exactly the kind of place we wanted. Good continental breakfast included, and a 12 noon check out allowed us to lounge around and enjoy the room in the morning. Best of all - a great price! We highly recommend and would go back again. "What a Stay!"
We just got home from our weekend in New York. We weren't sure about the hotel since I booked it on the internet. What a treat. The exterior of the 106 year old building has a great charm. The inside is completely redone into a modern, funky decor. The room was cruise ship small, but well done and well appointed. There was a huge leather headboard. […] The bathroom and shower were tiled in a leather-look porcelain. The shower had a wonderful rain head. The staff was great. The concierges, Freddy and Brandon, were pleasant and helpful. Brandon sat with us at the bar and got to know us and then made our dinner reservations for us. The Siberian bartender was also great, though I neglected to get her name. That may have had something to do with the drinks she was pouring! Breakfast was included in the price of the room. They had a very nice continental breakfast. If I had any complaints, it would be the cleaning crew were awfully loud for 8:00 on a Sunday morning. We may have been in the city that doesn't sleep, but we do. But, we will be back. We spent part of our drive home planning our next trip to NY. Room Tip: Remember that when you come to New York, you don't come to spend all your time in your room. You just come back to the room to change and sleep. Don't expect a spacious suite and you will be happier. Read more

"Sanctuary Hotel NYC"
Very hip upscale hotel, extremely friendly staff, great location. The room was also very quiet. I will be staying here again for sure.
"The Sanctuary - beautiful renovation"
Nicely renovated with a great bar/lounge area and super location if you want to be near Times Square and Bryant Park. The rooms are TINY! Fine for one person, but tight squeeze for two.
"Great location, great staff, awful bed!"
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the decor was pleasing. The bed duvet had a small stain on it, and the bed was uncomfortable. The location was perfect for what we needed and we had a great trip, despite these little things. We would even consider staying there again if we needed to be in that area again.
"Great staff"
Sanctuary's staff was awesome - friendly, quick, and always ready to assist. The location is good for people unfamiliar with the city since it's in time square. I like that there's a garage right across the street to make parking easy and safe, but it would be nice if the hotel would validate. I brought my dog and they were really welcoming but the […] 250 pet 'deposit' is actually a fee - this would have been good to know. Overall, I booked this hotel because it looked really swanky in pictures - and is in real life - but I won't stay here again. Read more
Great location but rooms are very very small.

"Couples' MUST STAY HOTEL - Unique Atmosphere"
Well, where to start...I guess I should start by pointing out the door keeper waiting for my girlfriend and I as we walked down the street looking for the hotel; it's like he knew us for a long time! He greeted us cheerfully and quickly brought us to the front desk for an expedited check-in (They let us check-in early, very nice). I quickly noticed […] that the hotel was in fact really modern looking. It has a dark, romantic feel to it; very different from anything I have seen before. Thumbs up for interior designing. The room was very clean and neat; just like previous reviews had mentioned. I could say that the room size is small/compact; but then again, it is NYC. I would not really recommend the Deluxe Queen room for a business traveler, for there is no enough room to work. The shower was really spacious and practical; not a problem for tall guys (I'm 6'5"). Bed comforter and sheets were nice and crisp, really cozy! The view from the seventh floor was not bad at all; I was expecting just a wall in front of me, but in fact, I was able to see many different buildings and get a glimpse of the city lights. Overall, I had a great experience. The concierge gave us some nice restaurant suggestions, and boy am I glad I took his advice! A few things to point out: TV: Remote control was not accessing the menu/pay-per-view. I swapped remotes at the front desk. Still did not work. I'm not a big TV watcher, so I didn't really mind. WIFI: Did not work 90% of the time using my iPhone. When it did, it was really slow. Again, I didn't really mind because I had 3G and did not have to do any work while in the hotel. Breakfast: The hotel currently does not have a kitchen, so there are limitations to your meal (No eggs, bacon, pancakes and that stuff). Other than that, fresh fruits, awesome OJ, tasty bread, and some other goodies. Mini Bar: Awesome selection (wine, beer, FIJI water, and more). But very expensive, like most mini bars. I Rated a 4 for Condition/Maintenance due to th Read more
"Comfy, Convenient, Excellent Fitness Club"
The Sanctuary is a trendy, upscale hotel just off Times Square - the half-price ticket booth is just under two blocks away. The hotel itself is on a less-busy street (at least for the Times Square area), and a little hard to find, because the entrance is a single thin stoop without any prominent signage. The interior is almost universally dim - I think […] the owner may have an allergy to lighting. But it does create an quiet, low-key club sort of feel. The rooms themselves are on the small side, typical of this sort of hotel - you have maybe 2-4 feet on each side of the bed, and that's it. The bathrooms have showers only (no tubs), but these are roomy. Bathrooms (aside from the toilet, which has its own sliding door) are connected to the remainder of the room by a translucent curtain, so there is not much privacy. What that all means: this is not the hotel for a family vacation, instead ideal for an intimate 2-person getaway or a relaxing solo trip. The included cold breakfast is typical if nothing fancy, and of decent quality - bagels and toast, fresh fruit, a small assortment of pastries, juices, etc. If you are the exercising type, the hotel has contracts with two neighboring fitness clubs, each about a 10-minute walk, for which you will need to ask the front desk for passes. I recommend Club Fitness/LA (in Rockefeller Plaza), which provides you with workout clothes, towels, etc - so no need to bring anything but an iPod and headphones. Read more

"Great location, great staff, decent rooms (small),"
This is the second time staying at the Sanctuary. Both times we've found it to be more than adequate. The location is central, the staff very helpful and accommodating, and the rooms, while small, are clean and well designed.
"Quick Stay"
Nice Hotel. Great location. Very clean room. Would stay there again for sure.
"The Sanctuary... lives up to it's name"
Stayed 3 nights recenly, and was concerned that the location so close to Times Sq would be an issue. Generally, I prefer a little more distance. Happily, the hotel was a retreat from the sensory overload of TS, with very quiet rooms, and a lovely ambience. Although somewhat small, my room was clean, functional and comfortable... so a good value overall. […] Special thanks to Julio who went "above and beyond" to assist me!! Read more

"Very tiny room in excellent location"
The room is very small even by NY standards. If you are the claustrophobic type, you may want to stay elsewhere. The windows are frosted so you can't see outside, which makes the room feel even smaller. The shower has no door, just a curtain to separate it from the bedroom. The water pressure was decent though the shower knob pulled off when we tried […] to adjust the water temp. Breakfast was average. Unless the rate is pretty reasonable, will not stay here again. "Overpriced"
Very nice Hotel, but overpriced for what you get
"Right in the middle of it all...."
The location of this hotel is perfect! Just about a block away from Broadway and close to Times Square. Multiple subway lines nearby, too. Add this to the wonderful staff and the quality of the rooms, we couldn't have had a better stay. If there was one surprise, I would say it was the size of the room. It was smaller than expected, but still comfortable […] and had enough room for the two of us. Would definitely stay again! Read more
"Sanctuary New York Hotel - Serves The Purpose"
I enjoyed my stay but note it was only for an overnight. The hotel staff were kind, pleasant, and helpful. The hotel itself is rather dark because it uses either LED or neon lights for accent lighting in the public areas. The room I booked with a king-size bed was originally intended for two, but I was the only one in the room for my stay. Had that […] not been the case, it would have proven rather cramped. My biggest complaint is that the air conditioning blew directly onto the head of the bed. There was no escape from it except to turn off the AC which made the room uncomfortable. Also no ice machines. Front desk had to send it up. Otherwise, the room met all of my needs and expectations. The hotel is in a perfect location if your primary reason for staying there is to experience as much theatre as possible. I'd stay again, but next time in a larger room. Read more
"Save your money!"
Very cramped and dark rooms make this boutique hotel very undesirable. Waited 24 hrs. for 2 additional pillows and staff certainly needs polishing. Hotel should have waited 2 more weeks before opening due to wallpaper still being hung in hallways....very noisy! Curtain separates bedroom and shower. Again, save your money!!
"Great little gem"
I am a frequent traveler. I have over 2 million airline miles and many associated hotel stays. The Sanctuary Hotel ranks up there with some of the best pleasant surprises I have experienced. The hotel was attractive inside and out. The room was more than satisfactory - although typically NYC-small. I appreciated the iPod dock, the complimentary WiFi, […] the linens and bed comfort, the chic quality, the chandelier above the bed... The only items I would downgrade on would be the lack of sound insulation resulting in hearing hallway doors closing (and opening) which when attempting to sleep was bothersome and the price and proficiency of the (front) lobby bartender. We had a small group of five persons (3 women) and racked up a $140 bar tab in an hour. If the bartender talent was top-notch, maybe I could stomach the bill...but instead, I felt a tad gouged. I would return. And, I would recommend the hotel. Read more
"Sanctuary was exactly that"
Location: perfect. Just steps off time square. The decor: dark and sofisticated. It's definitely a real swank and sexy vibe. The rooms: small but it's NYC. They're glam enough to make you forget that they're not huge. The showers are killer! So relaxing, so inviting. The staff: right on task. Always a door man. Lenny was our concierge. He was cute and […] charming and had plenty of good ideas and was interested in our day in the city. We went on the seemed that hurricane Irene decided to close the city. So there was limited entertainment on a couple nights. But the hotel was a perfect place to rest and rehab from the fun we got into. I would highly suggest this Hotel. I can't wait to go back. They brought us champagne for our anniversary with a nice card. We'll definitely spend some holidays with them in the future. Overall a wonderful experience. Read more
"This place really is a SANCTUARY"
The staff could not have been more helpful if they wanted to. The service was great, a continental breakfast was provided even though the hurricane was raging and staff was tight due to transportation being shut down.
"Great, exactly what I wanted"
I like boutique hotels, but find that I never have enough time to enjoy them when traveling for work. All I needed and expected was a great room in a good location. So, what a great oppty to try the Sanctuary, which is still in their soft opening. The room is like one big studio. Mine was towards the back of the main building and has a view of the […] fire escape, which apparently provides a little more room. At first, i was put off with having the shower and sink right in the same room as the bed, but after pulling the plush curtain around the space, it worked beautifully. Shower was awesome, all the fixtures are great, make sense, etc. Can't wait to stay here again (but the rates will increase, I'm sure.) Read more
"Wonderful stay at Sanctuary Hotel in NY"
My wife and I stayed 4 nights at Sanctuary and really enjoyed our stay. It’s located half block from Time Square and maybe 2 blocks from Rockefeller Center. Don't worry about the renovation that is still underway. Even though the restaurant and bar isn't open yet, you're only a very short walk from anything you would want. It’s the hotel staff that […] really makes this hotel shine. Our first morning it was looking like rain so we asked the desk where the closest place was to get an umbrella, he pulled one out and gave it to us. Since this was our first visit to NY we had lots of questions. Lenny, Michael and Diany (sorry if I misspelled your name) are cheerful, pleasant and were happy to answer any question we had. Our room was small but quiet. Nicely decorated. The bed is fantastic!! The only dislikes were the quirky light switches that sometimes worked on the first try and what looks like an energy saving feature that requires you to put you key card in for the A/C and lights to work. We just left our extra card in so the room was cool whenever we came back. Definitely recommend Sanctuary Hotel. Did I mention the bed was fantastic? Read more
"Sanctuary Hotel, excellent location"
Location was excellent - half block from Broadway/Theater district - close to times square...all walking distance. Room - smallest hotel room I've ever seen. You could roll out of bed into the shower..... shower and sink in same room/right next to the bed.
"The Sanctuary Hotel in New York"
Very nice Hotel. Still under construction, so I am sure it will be terrifc once it is completed. One thing I found missing, was a glass in the bathroom. Other than that, I would stay here again.
"Trendy boutique hotel"
Excellent customer service, trendy boutique style hotel. Rooms are small but the atmosphere and location made up for it.
"Oasis in the heart of midtown"
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this hotel. It is decorated in a contemporary style, and the moment you step in off the busy streets of midtown Manhattan you get the instant calming, serene feeling. The location couldn't be better; Times Square is at the end of the block, theaters are just blocks away, and several subway lines are available in just […] a block or two. The room was small, as expected in NYC, but sufficient. You could tell that the hotel was new in that all the staff weren't "polished" yet, but they were always more than helpful and cheery. Our consierge for the week and a half was very helpful and made many good suggestions. We will definately be using this hotel again when we go back to the city. Read more

This is a GREAT chic, boutique hotel right by Times Square. Super modern, sultry appeal. Great location and great staff. I highly recommend this hotel!
"Sanctuary Hotel just off Times Square"
Didn't realize the hotel was so close to all the action in Times Square. If you want the action great but can be difficult to negotiate if you dont. Hotel is in "soft opening" until September of 2011. Food service unavailable this summer. Liked the hotel. The staff was great, very helpful and gave good suggestions for what to see and do. Rooms are small, […] like many in NYC, but tastefully furnished and clean. Our room had a typical New York view of a brick wall, but it was quiet. Would go back again. Read more
"Nice new hotel but... still not finished"
The Hotel looked good when booking but, it's still in construction and works ongoing there is no bar and no where to eat also no kettle in the room for a cuppa in the morning. The room was very small but it's NY and we didn't mind as we were out all the time. The staff were really nice helpful and it's a good location beside times sq.
"NYC is great - I'd say here again"
For the price and location this hotel was just right. 1/2 block off from times square, near a couple subway stops. The room was ergonimically designed. Their are no dressers, and space to just walk around the bed, a curtin to devide the sink/shower from the room and a pocket door for the toilet. Flat TV mounted above desk. It was the little things that […] were missing in a hotel that seems to want to be trendy and 5 star. 1. no desk lamp 2. no pen/pad of paper 3. no instructions on how to use room key, turn the tv channel off the main page, to turn on lights energysaver model, call front desk, rules about free calls etc. 4. no ice machine, you have to call the front desk, then it takes awhile to get it 5. they stated their were bathrobes on their webpage but there were not 6. their was no iron or ironing board 5. their was no hairdrier 7. 3" space around sink for your stuff, things were always falling off the counter. 8. no view and windows didn't open more than 2". It did have a pay safe, free internet, and a mini fridge, concierge service, it was clean, bed was soft, and they open the front door and hail taxi's if you want. OVERALL, it was everything I hoped a room in NYC times square would be. A great place to sleep, clean and with my own bathroom. Read more

This hotel is strategically located right there, close to all the action of Times Square, Moma, 5th Ave stores etc etc... but you'll leave all that behind when you get into this chic boutique hotel, which is small but beautiful with a dark and trendy decor. "Not a good Experience"
Thin walls, super loud neighbors, TV didn't work when we wanted to watch a movie. Called concierge multiple times to resolves issue. Guy came up looked at the TV said he would be back in 5 mins, never returned. Rooms are small with less than private bath area.
