"Small room but good location"
The room size was 1/3 the size of the photo, too small for 2 adults who are not a couple. I had asked for a "trundle bed" knowing the full size bed would be too small for my adult daughter and I. However, the room was too small for a trundle bed to fit in it, even if they were able to carry it up the 70+ steps to our room. The result: my daughter slept […] in her brother's apartment on his couch instead. And did I mention the 70 plus steps to the room? The supplied breakfast was good, internet access good, location great. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"charming old place was fun despite the drawbacks"
VERY charming, old hotel which was probably 2 apartment buildings originally. Beautiful old decor, funky stairs from one half of the building to the other, very funky tub setup in our room, which required some gazelle-like moves to enter and exit. The worst part is the plumbing, which is extremely noisy running through the walls and can actually wake […] you up when someone else is using it. Tried a bath at 1 a.m., but only tepid water at that hour. In the morning, plenty of hot water, but you have to be careful because the temperature fluctuates wildly when you're showering. Their parking was full when we arrived at 3:30, so had to use the garage down the street to the tune of $22 for an overnight. Also awkward to access your car on the weekend because the garage is closed and the building it's under is, too. You have to wait for a security guard to let you in. But the bed was comfortable, the visit satisfying. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"hotel with character in downtown Montreal"
The hotel is very charming, and conveniently located. The room was large, and cleans, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming to us. The parking spot was definitely handy, and it's worth reserving it in advance. Highly recommended!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very Cute Place!"
It was a very short stay for us but we loved it! Aside from the absence of the elevator to bring your stuff to the second floor, everything was great! The location of the hotel is terrific as it is very close to the main night life scene of the city. Complementary breakfast was very good and super handy!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A diamond in Montreal"
You were recommended by a friend. Having just moved away from Westmount, I was at a loss for a place to spend an overnight or two in the city. I am sold on Ambrose; it has all that one can hope for: courtesy, cleanliness, location, warmness. I have found my pied-à-terre. Many thanks.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Habs weekend getaway"
Stayed here for the weekend to explore Montreal and see a Habs game. It was -30 outside but the hotel was nice and warm and the bed was really comfortable! Great location for walking around the city. Would stay here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel within a Victorian building with Historical charm. Great service and atmosphere. Facility is a bit dated but provide a different kind of experience. Real close to other tourist attractions, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, restaurants and downtown buildings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice little hotel!"
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Overall experience is very good. Although the room is quite small, it was quiet and the staff are super nice and helpful. It is in downtown Montreal and is close to museum and public transportation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fantastic deal in downtown Montreal"
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend as I was attending a conference in the area. The deal we got was phenomenal considering the hotel is just steps from one of the ritziest sections of downtown Montreal. Other reviewers didn't lie about the steps: we're in our 30s and in shape, and it was a climb to get to the top floor. But the overall condition […] and cleanliness of the hotel were fine, the room met all our needs, and the bed was super-comfortable. The breakfast buffet isn't substantial, but there were still hot and cold options, and the dining room is lovely. The staff were all fantastic. We'd definitely stay here again. "very comfortable stay at an affordable rate"
I'm very happy with my stay at Hotel Ambrose. It was a short walk from my conference and very comfortable. I nearly walked straight past the Hotel when I was initially looking for it--it is a small townhouse/inn on Stanley. And while it is probably not desirable for persons with mobility issues (steep staircases), the condition of the room was perfectly […] fine. Clean and comfortable. I didn't really have time to take advantage of the breakfast in the morning, but it was nice to know it was available. A good choice for a reasonable price in downtown Montreal! "quite and charming"
Nice simple hotel near Mcgill University...building is charming and romantic. Hotel was sweet but simple, room was tastefully decorated and felt like a bedroom and not a hotel room (a plus in my book). Location was perfect. Steps away from the metro and a short walk to old montreal, place de arts, Mcgill campus and a short travel distance to mount royal […] and an easy commute from peel station to Olympic park. "Great if you plan to be out of the hotel mostly"
The hotel was very affordable and was in a great location for Downtown Montreal. You're very much in walking distance to many must-see places of Downtown Montreal. In particular, you were about 5-6 blocks away from St. Catherine's Street, which is where you will probably spend a lot of your time as a tourist. You're a block away from Sherbrooke St and […] about 3 blocks away from Maisonnueve Ave. There's also a taxi waiting spot nearby (less than a block away) to catch a cab if you need to go somewhere, including the airport. The hotel itself was very pleasing in terms of its appearance and cleanliness, considering how much I spent for my stay, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It has a classy, sort of baroque style of appearance, but there's definitely signs that the place is old (which it is). But overall in terms of appearance, you can take a fair amount of good pictures to upload on your social media. The staff was also friendly and incredibly helpful. The staff was willing to help with luggage up the stairs to our room. The hotel also has a small storage space to keep your things in after you've checked out, if you're flight was still much later on in the day, while you went out to enjoy your last day of Montreal. I'd definitely recommend this place if you want a good place to stay in, if you plan to be mostly out of your hotel, but still want a place that you'd be willing to take pictures of to show to your friends. "Quiet, comfortable room- would recommend!"
Entering the hotel was a bit tedious because of the stairs going up and down in between the two buildings. The hallway was narrow and I arrived at cleaning time so there were things on the hallway ground which made it difficult to enter my room. However, the room was very clean and comfortable. It smelled nice and had just the right amount of air conditioning. […] The linen was soft and the bed was a pleasure to sleep in. The drapes were thick which allowed for a good sleep without any sunlight peaking through. There should have been some a note in the room explaining how the room phone and internet worked to save me a trip from going back downstairs and looking for staff. overall, it was a good experience in a nice part of town. "Business trip, over night stay."
Excellent location, quaint Victorian manor. Reminded me of small hotels in Paris. I was travelling alone so my small room with dbl bed was great, bathroom excellent with a shower. "Pleasant hotel near McGill University"
The hotel is a converted old-time townhouse in the heart of the McGill/Ste-Catherine district. It is very well located for shopping, culture and nightlife, as you can walk to many museums, galleries, great shops, bars and restaurants. We didn't realize we needed to reserve parking ahead of time, but found a spot on the street so there was no problem. […] Otherwise, parking can be hard to find! The staff was very pleasant but the facilities are just bit seedy, especially the hallways and common areas. However, our room was clean and pleasant, equipped with air conditioning, large-screen TV and and iPod dock. The breakfast facilities were fairly minimal and several guests who arrived at peak time between 8 and 8:30 could not find a place to sit. But if you could find a table and didn't mind heating up your reheated potatoes and cheap croissant in the microwave it was adequate. Convenient and pleasant but not a place I would rush to stay at again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Enjoyed my stay"
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Has a lot of character, and unlike most venues with the older/rustic vibe, it was also very clean. The rooms were quiet and you could not hear any noise from outside or from other rooms -- a real rarity downtown. It was an excellent location as it was walking distance from almost all of the spots we wanted to visit. […] The service was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again. "Nice hotel and very close to shopping district"
Hotel Ambrose is a charming older hotel that anyone looking to stay in the heart of Montreal would enjoy. It is close to everything from shopping, to restaurants and is also inexpensive. "Pleasant European style hotel"
I enjoyed my stay of one night. The hotel is a bit quirky - two old, formerly stately stone townhouses that don't quite fit together, making for odd stair arrangements, hardwood floors, and a quaint old-world feeling. The place needs a little work - minor repairs, a lick of paint, resanding the hardwood floors, cleaning the generous bay windows, which […] were very dirty - but overall the bed was comfortable, the place homey and the ceilings high. It is in an excellent location off Sherbrooke Street, and a great deal. The young woman who greeted me seemed to be less than impressed with checking in a middle-aged woman (me) the age of her mother, but everyone was professional and not unpleasant. The breakfast is a real disappointmen - a supermarket croissant that I threw out after the first bite, unimpressive bread for toast, dry and salty mass-produced hash browns. The hardboiled eggs and whole fresh fruit were welcome and real, however. Odd thing in the bathroom - soap, shampoo and conditioner were dispensed from wall-mounted squeeze bottles that were a challenge for arthritic hands, and there was no soap in the shower - one has to reach out of the shower across the sink to the soap dispenser - a small bar for the bath would solve the problem. While these are a lot of small criticisms, I would go back if I were alone again in Montreal for a meeting, looking for inexpensive, safe, convenient lodgings that are unlike the cookie-cutter hotel chains nearby. "Close to downtown and McGill, very good for price"
Staff were friendly and efficient. Room was a good size, bed was comfortable. Location was excellent. Breakfast was ok. Anyone with mobility issues might be put off by the lack of an elevator, though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable hotel right downtown"
Comfortable and clean room, big screen TV, friendly staff. Biggest plus was it was reasonably priced for a hotel so close to downtown - Ste Catherine, Crescent, Bishop, Guy-Concordia. Only two criticisms - cleaning staff didn't speak much English and my room was on the 3rd (top) floor and there is no elevator.Genuine Expedia guest review
This beautiful abd historic converted mansion is close to everything. We really enjoyed the daily breakfast. It certainly made our days start off well. "False room description"
I booked a room at thr Ambrose for 3 reasons.1) Location 2) Price 3) reviews. I loved the location as it was close to Catherine street and the subway. It is an easy wlk to other areas of Montreal as well. The price was reasonable , and the reviews were pretty good. The only problem i had was that i booked a room with a DEEP SOAKING TUB which was $15 more […] per night but my room did not have one.Initially staff tried to blame expedia but it's the hotel that places the add description.I wasn't happy because that's what sold me on the room.I did get a $50 refund but i feel like i was taken advantage of(based on 2 nights plus all taxes thats $14 in my favor) . The room was clean and the service was great but i won,t be back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

With rating systems, the hotel real rating is lost because it's location is superb, but hotel should be shut down. Came down from Toronto for the canadiens game. I booked last minute and was surprised by the Victorian style of the hotel. Minor things can be improved, otherwise reminded me of staying in a dorm.
