Great location to the train station. Cab is a fiver and you can walk to the Dover castle in about 30 minutes--we chose the downhill and a cab up to the castle Leave yourself time as we were not expecting all of the WWII history and would love to go back to learn more about the Castle. We were so impressed with the graciousness of all the staff in this hotel. They were warm and welcoming and helped us in every way. Even to the point of finding a brand new baby blanket when we had no luck in the local stores. Although the hotel is housed in a very old building ( creaky, uneven floors) this was compensated for by our large family room […] with a magnificent view of the English Channel. The hotel was lovely. Check-in was firmly in place at 2 pm but they would hold your luggage. The superior room was right on the water with a gorgeous view and we had a balcony but there is no air conditioning and we had to leave the large French doors open all night...not feeling totally secure. Trying to get something to eat at the hotel at 11:45 am was trying, but we finally figured it out. They will not honor your reservation - the rooms are not as pictured - to quote another guest's comment in their guest book "The rooms/beds would be too small for dieting pigmys!" If you arrive later than 30 min. after their 2:00pm check-in time they will be 'full' and unable honor your reservation - this happened TWICE to us!!!!!!!!

Reception staff was friendly and very helpful, with advice about sightseeing shopping, and travel. We had stayed over a month before and they kindly agreed to keep some luggage until our return from the continent. Room had large bath and a nice view of harbor and beach. Bar food was good.

The hotel is beautiful, clean and luxurious. It is right on the water and you can hear the sea at night. I loved my balcony room with sea view! The only drawback is the service, from some wonderful, from others far less than expected given the standard of the hotel. Overall a great value and I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is well situated, right on the beach but within easy access of the town center. We didn't have any meals, so we can't speak to the restaurant, but the public rooms were attractive and our room was fine. It was a decent size by European standards. Staff was helpful.

Great Location in Dover. 10 minutes to Dover Castle & Dover Cliffs. Parking available at no additional costs. Rooms very clean, comfortable and quiet. I would recommend this hotel when staying in Dover. It is easy to access by car and is in a very good location to begin or end you visiting in Dover.

Right when we walked in the lobby, there was no one at the desk so the bar tender promptly and politely offered to get someone for us. The bar tender and other bar staff were very friendly and helpful the entire stay. Suggesting places to go and remembering us when we came back to ask how our trip was that day. The public areas of this hotel are very pleasant, but their "superior" rooms only contain double beds. that fills the whole room. We prefer two beds, and the hotel could not accommodate us, so we did not stay.(after waiting 5 hours for a room) Doo not book if you want two beds.

Really nice hotel. Although rool layout was a bit strange, this seams to have been caused by thr 32" LCD TV which had been bolted to a random wall! Main issue, the radiator in the room was not able to heat the room! extra heater was supplied! Thought I was getting a deal with Expedia but breakfast wasn't included. Paid an extra £32 a day for a family of four. There is a lot of dust in the room, as I'm allergic to dust mites had to take medicine. Wasn't very happy with the whole experience.

On arrival we found reception staff very helpful with directions for parking and providing us with a parking permit. Hotel has been refurbished to a high standard of decoration. Room, bathroom and all bed linen were spotlessly clean. On the first night we decided to use the hotel restaurant, we were sadly disappointed. After our crockery had been removed we were told the dessert menu was on it's way. However, the soap dispenser in the shower did not work: it was clear that a previous occupant had found this and had taken the top off, but he had not discovered that the staff member who put the new bottle in had not removed the seal on the cap. The soup had a skin on it, and the claws on my lobster were over-cooked. If they are going to put lobster on the menu, it needs to be done properly. There were no crackers or meat extractors for the claws. And the staff did not know what to do, not even offering a finger bowl. This hotel was crying out for refurbishment & I'm pleased to see it has been done to the high standard that this building deserves. Our room on the third floor had lovely views but was like an oven, which made our two nights pretty uncomfortable. The fan in the room didn't really help & we couldn't open the window more than a couple of inches (health […] & safety?) We had read about this problem on a website before we booked but thought perhaps the traveller had been unlucky with his room - but having spoken to other guests on the same floor, it appeared that there were several rooms suffering from this problem. A real shame because having said that, the room was clean & otherwise comfortable, with an adequate, very clean bathroom. The quality of service varied. Reception & bar staff were very welcoming & professional but staff in the restaurant, although friendly appeared inexperienced, almost timid. We were concerned about noise when we heard about the opera evening that night, but there was no noise problem at all. The hotel gave us a free pass for the car park (as you have to pay to park on the road), which was very useful & convenient. We'd definitely stay again, but would ask for a different room, perhaps one with a lovely balcony to enjoy the sun & sea views. Final point, the coffee is awesome! Read more

Great location the hotel is old with lovely public areas, the one lift is small and slow, rooms have nice decor but beds lumpy and the bathroom is small and the over bath shower is very poor. The hotel was more than I expected. It had character, was a great location by the sea. The hotel also had a lovely little bar over looking the water, perfect for a relaxing afternoon drink. Staff were pleasant and helpful, room was clean and warm! If I ever return to Dover I will definitely return to the Best Western Hotel and Spa.
