Cinnamon Citadel Kandy - Kandy

My friend and I planned a last minute vacation to Sri Lanka and we found an amazing deal for Chaaya Citadel (Cinnamon Citadel) in Kandy. We were pleasantly surprised when it came to our room, which had amazing comfy beds and a view. We loved the pool and the overall relaxing feel to the hotel. We ate at both the main restaurant and Cafe C. We preferred […] our meal at Cafe C and were surprised to be the only ones in the restaurant. Our one complaint would be our interaction with the excursion coordinator. Since it was a last minute trip, we were only able to do minimal research before arriving so we were dependent on his suggestions. We had to tell him numerous times that we didn't want to do certain activities, as well as he kept switching between the elephant safari and the elephant orphanage so we were getting confused. We found out the driver that was arranged for us was a friend of his, who as well wouldn't listen to what we were saying about what we wanted to do. The driver took us to an elephant safari that his friend owned, and we had probably the jeep in the worst condition in comparison to other safari excursions that we saw. Overall, we loved the hotel (especially the pool and our room), and the service was amazing. Our suggestion would be to plan your vacation, activities and driver, prior to arrival. Read more

Two nights in Kandy, we had a nice room with river view. The room was very nice, not quite 4 stars but nice. Service was ok, no complaints, but nothing to rave about either. Breakfast was good with the typical stuff, quality was pretty good. The room AC was nice and cold which helped a lot since weather was hot during our stay. Had a lovely time at this hotel. It is located about 2.5 km from the centre of Kandy which means it is quiet. Most of the hotels in Kandy can be quite noisy. The hotel is situated overlooking the river. Stunning views. I highly recommend.

This hotel is now part of the cinnamon group and has been renovated very well. A great base for exploring the general Kandy and highlands area. Rather busy on the groups side of things but none the worse for it. Food excellent variety and well priced.

Hotel room was tired and dated. It was also very cramped when an extra bed was put in for our daughter. The pool was good which was one of our main reasons for choosing it although it is a little way out of of central Kandy. About £3 in a Tuk Tuk. The hotel was a no frills place and very dated, but the pool was very nice and our children enjoyed that part. This hotel was not as expensive as the much nicer hotel we stayed in during part of this stay in Sri Lanka, but still to much money for what we got. Everything was great. We chose to eat really good food in the excellent and peaceful a la carte restaurant....the main eatery was horrendous with so many groups....like a school canteen !! Delightful pool and lovely location....just a bit far from town.

Chaaya Citadel was an enjoyable stay. Room was clean and bed was comfortable enough. Food was of a good standard and staff were friendly and efficient. From start to finish i wasnt a happy customer. was given a room which turned out to be a twin room, we are a honey moon couple and we got a twin room.. Was told i should have indicated my choice.. when and where i am not sure.. when i called reception they said the hotel was full, when i thought it was half empty.. anyways after some raised voices was […] moved to a room with a double bed. post that we opted to have dinner in the hotel restaurant on the 2nd night. my wife is a vegetarian and she ordered some pasta which was supposed to have cheese stuffing. to our delight the pasta was undercooked, when we explained to the manager/waiter it took a while for them to understand. after about 10 minutes they returned with the dish which was still as bad as before. they tried explaining that the cheese was in the pasta, which wasnt there and the pasta is best cooked like they were serving, unfortunately we eneded up eating bread and soup for dinner. when we asked for tea in our room, they were surprised. was told it will be charged and we said thats fine with us, still took them a while to send the tea. on the day of the checkout i was given the invoice and yet again it wasnt for me, they had charged me for something that i had not used/ordered. the room number on the signed bill was not even mine and the signature did not match any of the other signed bills. another 30 mins before that was rectified and because of that we missed the bottle feeding session at pinnawalla. thanks chaaya citadel. Veel bussen, weinig individuele personen. Weinig te doen, alleen zwembad. Gasten blijven maximaal 1 of 2 nachten. Comfort prima. Sommige delen van het hotel hinder van ventilator buiten.
