Hotel Bishops Arms - Kiruna

All the water in Kiruna has this nasty chemical smell- you have to wonder when there are signs everywhere saying "our water is drinkable!". People seem run down- I wasn't imagining it, a bartender who had moved there a year before said the same thing and begged me not to judge Sweden by this town. The hotel was fine, more space than others though lacking […] in all the little things like a tea kettle in the room, phone in the room, etc. People in the hotel were friendly and nice, the breakfast wasn't the freshest and the bed was uncomfortable. But seriously, the town has nothing to offer- it's a mining town. Go to Abisko- they have dogsledding, skiing, nature trails, the sky station, nature center, etc. Clean, non-chemical smelling water, gorgeous mountain views from the dining area. Kiruna doesn't offer anything worthwhile city-wise and it just feels awful. If you can afford it stay at the ice hotel. SO WORTH IT. And they have a cheap shuttle to the airport, warm rooms, very friendly, beuatiful, interesting place, though all the tour stuff (dogsledding, etc. is double/triple the price in Kiruna and Abisko. We enjoyed this hotel, we stayed in the Ice Hotel one night and moved here for 2 nights to be in the city and less expensive then the Ice Hotel. It was in a great central location, Kiruna is easily walked around. The room was clean and comfortable. We missed the breakfast so cannot comment on that. One thing the check-in was strange being at the bar, […] no issues, but no front desk support either. We did not need it but could see that as an issue if you had an after business hours issue. Kiruna is a tiny town and we stayed in this hotel the night before we continued on to the ice hotel. It is right in the center of the (tiny) town and close to the church which is the main sight in town. The check in was a total disaster. Although we were aware that the check in was only at 4pm ,at least we should have the benefit of using the lounge or whatever is available. Even the taxi driver who dropped us volunteered to stay back and offered us some other options. We tried to telephone the hotel but nobody responded. We were to be told later in […] the bar by a Thai waitress that there was a new girl on duty and that she did not attend to any calls. The Manager that we wanted to speak to was not available on that Sunday afternoon, and also on Monday as it was her off day. We were therefore trudging the town all afternoon carting our bags in the deep snow. This is a fairly new hotel and the rooms are very comfortable and kept to a high standard. However there were a few minors issues that could have greatly improved our stay. We arrived on the overnight train from Stockholm and our arrival at the hotel was 12:45. Reception was limited to pub opening hours so, not open till 16:00. The hotel room was big (for a European hotel) and very comfortable. The toilet floor was heated, which was very good. The breakfast staff were very thoughtful and helped to prepare a very good breakfast bag as we had to leave early (before breakfast). Myself and my wife enjoyed our stay and have no complaints. The room was well furnished and comfortable. There no noise from the pub below. The breakfast was fine with a good choice of food. The position of the Bishop's Inn is excellent. Right in the centre of Kiruna, only 2 minutes walk from the tourist information centre. The food in the pub was good, […] but a little pricy and it sells the best range of drinks of any place in Kiruna. But don't expect the normal attributes of a hotel. There is no 24-hour reception, so when our key card refused to work on the third day, we were locked out of our room for an hour until the pub opened at 4pm. A clean and pleasant, though fairly small, room with a lovely modern bathroom. Once within the hotel bedrooms area we saw no other people at all. The fact that you can't check in till 4 pm when the pub opens is a bit of a nuisance. Access to the rooms is via a lift in the adjoining shopping centre- so the bedrooms are quite apart from the reception […] area in the pub. The reception is in common with the pub at the ground floor (Bishops Arms is a chain in Sweden and we saw the same combination of hotel and pub in Lulea and Norrkoping) and it's open only during the working time of the pub (only after 4 pm). it's very central, part of a shopping centre, above a pub. very clean and quiet. Check in is only when the pub is open (it works at the hotel reception) ie approx 4pm on weekdays and 12 weekends. Very nice spacious room and bathroom.

The staff were all very helpful and the food was to die for! The rooms are incredibly comfortable with underfloor heating in the bathroom and very good beds! I would most definitely stay there again and recommend it to others without hesitation.

The hotel is convieniently located in the center of Kiruna town. It is accesible via a shopping center. On the ground floor is the Bishop's pub - easy access to beer and food. The shopping center where the hotel is located has a nice cafe. The location allows easy access to most of Kiruna by foot.

Det er ikke et sted man man umiddelbart finder det smilende personale, men bortset fra det var det et fint hotel, det lykkedes os at check ind omkring kl 14. Eneste minus er at der er sen check ind og receptionen ikke er åben i dagtimerne. Men kan anbefales.

Det var rent och fräscht. personalen var trevlig och hjälpsam. Det var lugnt och tyst på rummet och sängarna var bekväma. In -och utceckning gick snabbt, och man kunde få sig lite pubmat om man ville. Mycket bra helt enkelt.
