A gem of a hotel, with great staff
an older property, yet the management has tried to update it as much as possible. The stairways and aisles make for a bit of a maze to your room; at least there were numerous fire doors and escapes. There is no lift so be prepared to get your luggage to your room the old-fashioned way. There were two outstanding attributes of this hotel: 1) the staff were welcoming and very helpful. They gave us good suggestions about the local beer and attractions; delivered extra towels and offered the little details to make our stay more comfortable. In addition, we had a customer service related issue which they resolved via email to our satisfaction after our departure. 2) the breakfast was simply amazing ! Not pastries from the supermarket, but beautiful buttery crisp croissants; freshly cooked breakfasts to order, including salmon and scrambled eggs, potatoes, etc; delicious and ripe fresh fruits.

Nice place.
Not much happening in town.

Mostly OK. A bit noisy. Decent rather than great.
This is a old pub, with the rooms outside in a courtyard. The rooms are OK if a little cramped. Breakfast is in the main building which also has the pub bar. There is a good sized residents' lounge which to some extent mitigates the rooms' size - they can be uncomfortable to spend much time in, unless one person sits on the bed most of the time. Breakfast and bar evening meals are pretty good. Another slight disadvantage of the rooms is that they adjoin a courtyard where all the smokers go, and also (as a posted notice points out) the area outside the rooms is like an echo chamber so any noise there at night is very disturbing. Location is close to the centre of town, hand for the railways etc. Overall rating is OK but a bit expensive. Parking is rather cramped and fill sup quickly.

Ideal for visiting the Festiniog Railway
The hotel was picked as it was near to the Festiniog Railway. It is only 6 mins walk away, so hotel was ideally situated. The room was small, but adequate for a single room. The hotel is a bit dated in some areas and would benefit from getting rid of 1940's style maroon paint outside. The bathroom fittings were fine and was very clean, bed was comfortable.

OK but in need of an update.
The pub, restaurant, location and general service of this hotel was great. Food was great, staff were friendly. Sadly the rooms are very tired and in need of TLC. The carpets were dirty. The tiles around the shower were dirty. The walls were thin. I really felt for how much this place cost per night that we should have expected better. If I'd paid £60-70 a night I may have felt it was OK for the money, but for over £90 a night it didn't meet expectations. And didn't make for a very conducive environment for a romantic weekend (a special birthday treat for my partner).
