We liked the in town location of this hotel since it was close to restaurants and had a small market and a laundromat rt across the street. We asked for a quiet room and got it. Breakfast was included and was fruit (really yummy) toast and eggs and coffee. Right in the center of downtown La Fortuna, so don't expect great views, but you have easy access to laundry & grocery shops as well as restaurants. The staff was really nice, but seemed under-staffed at times, so you needed a little bit patience during breakfast time, if you needed help from reception. The wireless does need improvement though. We stayed here after a 22-hour long journey from Los Angeles. Comfy beds, good A/C, but the showers were not hot enough. The location was good and in Central Fortuna.

Very basic rooms, no chair. Even the hotel sign outside was missing so it was not easy to find. Some rooms had no outside windows, WiFi worked. Breakfast was very basic, but a good choice when you are on diet. However if you are lucky you can get a room with a nice view of volcan Arenal.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights during our two week trip to Costa Rica. First of all, Manrique, who works at the front desk, was awesome! He was very friendly and made excellent recommendations of things to do in the area. I would recommend this hotel just because of Manrique and the rest of the staff at the front desk-- they were outstanding. […] In addition to having great staff, the hotel was an excellent value. The rooms were clean and had great views. Even though we didn't reserve a volcano view room, we still had an awesome view of the the mountains. If you'll be there during the rainy season (like we were) then it's not even necessary to get a volcano view room, because you may never see the top of the volcano-- we saw part of it but the clouds never cleared enough to see the whole thing during the three days that we were there. Breakfast was included, which was very convenient. The service was excellent and the food was very good-- a large fruit plate, scrambled eggs, and toast, along with coffee and juice. The hotel was very centrally located-- there are lots of local restaurants with great food and friendly service. Cab rides to Baldi were only $6-7 each way, as were cab rides to La Fortuna Waterfall and the trail head for the Cerro Chato hike. We did not rent a car, so this was perfect for us. Hotel is in Fortuna with a view of the volcano...if the clouds part (they didn't). But, we still had a "volcano view" room! Had mental pictures of us sitting on the balcony (only wide enough to barely stand on) watching the volcano at night. First day couldn't tell that the volcano existed, but in the moning the clouds lifted enough to see the lower […] part, but never did see the top. Was told this is common. Can walk to a number of local restaurants & bars, but best if you have your own car here (we didn't...we had hired a driver). The hotel was pretty spartan. Looks half abandoned, but not rundown. Staff was nice. Breakfast was included...they gave us juice, fruit, and a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon. No choice, but ok. Room was smallish, bathroom very odd...shower got the whole floor wet as it is just a too small curtain and only a "metal hump" that is supposed to keep the water in the shower area. Make sure that you return the air conditioner & tv remotes, and your keys to the front desk when you check out! TV remote didn't work well...had to keep getting a chair to change the volume. Mostly younger people that we saw...some backpackers. Many nicer hoetls in the area, but they are not yet listed on Expedia. Price was very reasonable. Don't know that I would stay again, but then again not sure that I would visit Fortuna/Arenal again either. Read more

Great stay for a budget traveler in the heart of La Fortuna within close proximity to all of Arenal's attractions. We were most impressed with Manrique - the front desk worker. At five stories the building is one of the tallest in the town center. Near some great coffee shops, a couple bars, and several tour booking shops ( book through the hotel -- great recommendations and reasonable prices ), etc. the town is pretty low key with a lot of hostels and cheaper hotels, small tourist shops, a couple banks, grocery stores etc. […] the hotel won't be confused with a standard conference business hotel but the rooms are clean, the building well looked after and a generally great vibe from the staff. She explained all of the ammenities and services the hotel offered and excorted us to the room. The hotel is close to everything in town, only 2 blocks from the bus terminal with a grocery store, liquor store, laundry service and about 5 restaurants within two blocks. The building itself is very well maintained, the interior is clean and well kept and the rooms are simple but quite comfortable. The front desk staff (Manrique and Mercedes I believe) […] were wonderful. They set up all the tours and day trips we could possibly want, let us know about everything that was near the hotel and basically did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The continental breakfast included in the stay was delicious.
