The hotel and it's staff ensured we had a fantastic family holiday. It's places like the Topicana that boost Vanuatu's reputation as a holiday destination. We will be back !

Very friendly staff however we were disappointed as on arrival we were told that there were no rooms left for the first two days of our stay due to delays in building. This was very disappointing considering we had booked more than 3 months in advance. We were provided with alternative accommodation (that was of a lower standard) and a free dinner […] however felt this did not make up for a rocky/inconvenient start to a relaxing holiday. I have been working in the travel industry for more than two decades now and I often take part in "study tours" travelling around the World evaluating hotels for the future routs for my company. This was a private visit and was not related to my job. I wonder who wrote the previous reviews because every single guest I spoke to was very unhappy and dissapointed […] with the quality or rather lack of in this resort. Some guests have left before the end of their stay. I have never, in my hundreds of trips, stayed in a hotel which claims to be a 4 1/2 stars come accross so many issues, like smelly and dirty sheets and pillows, dirty and smelly toilet. Towels not washed or dried properly. Smelly kitchen towel and mouldy dishwashing sponge. WiFi hardly ever worked and was extremely slow. Every of four available tv channels scrambled most of the time. Another supprise, A/C not included unless paid for separately, 1200 Vatu daily. The widely advertised blue lagoon is more of a canal with a strong current and often full of organic debries and screaming local kids for most of the day. Hotel mini swimming pool was dirty and murky. The most stingy continental breakfast I have ever been serevd in any hotel, consisting of quarter of an apple, half a slice of pineapple and two miniture bananas for two, two slices of plain white toast (no other bread ever available), jam and butter (rationd). The only positive aspect about the place was the friendly local staff, always helpful and smiling. Read more

The hotel is beside a Lagoon and has its own Beach, Restaurant and Bar. It is a nice and quiet place back from any street and traffic noise. It is 5-10 min trip to Port Villa Center with a bus or taxi (cheap). The rooms were very nice, the bed mattresses firm, everything was clean. We were able to use the hotel kajaks at no additional cost. Sitting […] in the open restaurant next to the lagoon and enjoying a very good meal from the small but well choosen menu was devine. We stayed here for 5 nights for the second half of our honeymoon. Calvin ( the manager) does an amazing job at welcoming you and helping you settle in, even took me to the doctor when i wasn't feeling well! Tropicana is not like the big resorts, it's alot more personalized than that, all of the beautiful staff know your name and go out of their way […] to make your stay the best they can. One night, one of the staff Shiela in the restaurant set up a beautiful dinner along the lagoon for us as a surprise, her service is amazing! And the food, the best food I've ever had in the pacific! Or any hotel for that matter! (I'm a flight attendant, so travel alot!) we had the steak 3 times, couldn't get enough! Sheila, Jenny, cee cee are all amazing as are all the staff, always smiling. The rooms are clean and tidy with cooking facility's all though we didn't really use it because the restaurant food was so good. Rooms have air con, but to use it you need to pay an extra $12 a day, (electricity is very expensive in Vanuatu) but we found we didn't need it as all rooms have shutters to open so the breeze comes through. Free use of kayaks for the lagoon if you want to go exploring and a bus stops out the front to take you into town for $1.50 which is really easy to use. All in all a lovely place to stay, Calvin, has hand picked the staff and done a great job. We will be back. Read more

This lovely, unpretentious little hotel on the banks of the lagoon was everything we wanted from an island experience to get away from the bustle of our busy lives. Nothing fancy or hyped about it...it's laid back, charming and absolutley delightful. We could step out of our apartment onto our little patio, onto the little beach! While soaking up the […] sun we watched and listened to village children across the narrow strip of lagoon, playing in the water and swinging in the trees...occassionaly a dugout canoe came by, a village rooster crowed or a dog barked. Pure bliss. The Australian host Calvin was absolutely charming! HIghly recommended if you wish to get away from it all but still have your home comforts. Read more

A fantastic place to stay in Port Vila. The apartments are all only a couple of years old so every room is modern with nice local touches. It's nicely located on the edge of a quiet lagoon, where the water is beautiful and clear & you can use one of the kayaks to have a nice trip down the lagoon. The staff there are probably the best I have seen in […] 10 years of travelling. The owners Martina & Jorg are there to assist with anything you need & can book all your activities for you which makes life so much easier. Also the girls who help with cleaning & everything else are so friendly, nothing is ever too much trouble. The location is great as you are just out of the town so it is much quieter & with being able to simply jump in a Bus for 150VUT each, its easy & cheap to get around. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone & hopefully if we can get away again, we will be staying here. Thank you so much for making our Honeymoon something we will remember. Read more

La situation de l'hôtel est idéale, prés de la ville mais suffisament éloigné pour y être tranquille, par contre et c'est assez surprenant pour un quatre étoile il n'y a pas de téléphone dans les chambres !! cette dernière était propre, le personnel trés serviable, le petit déjeuner copieux et bon le séjour y fût globalement trés agréable.
