"Out of town visitors from Virginia"
Made reservations due to proximity to the funeral we were attending. Church was next door. We were the only couple in the hotel due to off season. Hotel host was available when we arrived and available by cell phone if needed. Due to the off season, breakfast was not served. However, several establishments were open in town. Great location and view […] of the ocean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hewitt Wellington Hotel"
Loved it. I checked-in late - after the staff had gone - but they had a package waiting for me at the front desk. Room was great in this beautiful little corner of NJ. I checked out early - before the staff was there. I highly recommend the facilities, and I think the staff must be great, but I never actually laid eyes on another person while I was […] there. Charming, peaceful, and very nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely seaside victorian retreat"
The Hewitt Wellington is a lovely victorian hotel situated near the Lake in the center of town. The service could not have been more accomodating. It was not a peak travel weak, and I was the only guest at the hotel - so rather than setting out a buffet, they delivered my breakfast order to the room the evening before, where there was a refrigerator […] to store eggs/milk, etc. They provided google map directions to wherever I needed to go in town, which was very helpful. The rooms are charming - very clean, comfortable and quiet. The common areas are very gracious. And the restaurant in the hotel, "Whispers", is excellent. I'm not sure there was elevator access to the 2nd floor, but the stairs provided easy access to the rooms. I'd recommend this charming hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Enchanting shore getaway, very inexpensive off-season rates and a picture-perfect setting on a lake with the ocean and a beautiful main street minutes away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Hotel with a Quaint Charm"
From the arrival to departure to the hotel everything was very comfortable and friendly. The room was ready before check in and unique in layout and beauty. I would absolutely come back and recommend to anyone. If there could be any fault, it may have been the heating system. I turned the unit off and somehow even an hour later it would kick in and […] the room was warmer. Of course it was a cool fall, so warmer is better than cooler. Then again, being from Ft Lauderdale, I would sooner chaulk it up to possibly my own ignorance of the ac system since we don't use heaters. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A lovely place"
Our room was located on the 3rd floor and no elevator. It would have been nice to have a ocean view. The breakfast was very good. I am sure we will visit again and hope to get a room on the second floor. A very comfortable porch with a great view. William the manager was very helpful. I did not request a lower floor, but I will in the future.Genuine Expedia guest review

A really charming hotel, beautiful surroundings and the staff was great. We stayed one night and as we were the only guests, we got upgraded to the suites, and even got our own private porch. A really nice hotel that we can truly recommend!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We came without prebooking and knowing the place, but found that the place looked good and luckily for us there was a free room. We were certainly not dissapointed. Relaxed atmosphere, close to the Beach, and actually an extremely good restaurant at the place that we can recommend. Spring Lake is nice, good Beach and beautiful homes and gardens. "Best secret in town . . ."

Love this place and staff - Kathy the Manager is fabulous, rooms clean and short walk to the beach, short walk to 3rd ave with great food and shops! This was our 5th year there and already planned next year!
"Very good location"

We like the beach. We like the town. We enjoy the restaurants. We appreciate the beauty of the neighborhoods. Spring Lake has been our July retreat for many years and we always come away relaxed and ready to face August in NY. This was our first time at this inn. It is an old building and in pretty good shape. The rooms are a bit dated but comfortable and clean. Ours had a balcony facing the lake which gave us extra room to relax, especially on a cloudy day. Breakfast was available in the form of hot drinks, cereal, bagels, bread, canned fruit and yogurt. Not especially great, not awful. The staff is friendly. Overall, this is not a luxury property, but perfectly adequate for a weeks stay. It's location is excellent for the beach experience without being on the beach.

"Great location and fun for families"

We love the location near the beach and 3rd Avenue in Spring Lake. We visit every year for a family reunion. The large suites and casual atmosphere are ideal for families. Kathy is extremely accommodating and attentive. While the décor is a bit dated and the continental breakfast leaves you wanting, the other amenities including beach tags, chairs and towels make it a very pleasant place to stay.
"Lake view relaxation"
Loved the private porch with view of the lake and the heated swimming pool. Beach tags, towels and chairs were included. No age minimum for children, so we heard some small children making noise in the room next to us at 6:30 a.m. The continental breakfast could have included more options for the price. There also was a short supply of parking spots. Overall it was a lovely place to stay.
"Dreamy trip to yesteryear, but with modern amenities and a genuinely caring staff!"

Leadership is accomplished through sincere example. Hewitt-Wellington's General Manager, Kathy Tartaglia exemplifies such leadership as she imbues an excellent staff with her caring personality and even strain temperment. Over our too short 3-day stay, Kathy and H-W staffers were anticipating our needs and I witnessed that level of care awareness kindly exhibited to all guests as well as with each other. It was our pleasure to stay and we are already eyeing the few open reservation dates for another opportunity to go back in time.
"Limit your expectations-a disappointing stay."

The best that can be said for this property: the exterior is attractive and well maintained; the proximity to the beach is excellent; no excessive noise to distract a restful sleep, a/c worked perfectly and was silent. Onto the not-so-positive, and there's plenty: The H-W is no better than 2 stars. It's like they're just going through the motions collecting your room rate. Walls and baseboards are very scuffed up, the doors (bath, room entrance) are very dirty with other people's smudgy fingerprints-why they don't get regularly cleaned is beyond me. Sheets and towels were quite thin and worn. Housekeeping left us with a used-up toilet paper roll that we had to immediately change, and one tissue in the box. There was also a heavy layer of dust under the bedroom TV and in plain view that has obviously been ignored for some time. Everything just seems dingy and dated, and not in a charming or quaint antique way. It's grandma's tired old living room. Needing to get ready for dinner and then a wedding the next day, we were disappointed to find that we had an iron but no ironing board. When trying to call down to reception, I discovered that my room phone did not have service. Down 3 flights of stairs to find a friendly staff member who had to search for what is normally standard in a guest room. Management needs to anticipate this basic need and spend the money to outfit all rooms with standard amenties such as this. Lastly, it is true...breakfast is absolutely awful, food and coffee. Plan to head out if coffee and/or breakfast meal is on your agenda. The HW is in a great spot but does not deserve the #1 ranking. I cannot fathom how they occupy this position. Frankly, neither the value, accomodation, nor level of service is there. If you don't mind these myriad issues you might be content. While I did not expect the Waldorf, I certainly would have been happier at the Hampton.
"Quiet couple of days away"
07/14/14 siny1 Staten Island, New York
We enjoyed our stay in Spring Lake. Weather was perfect. Hotel is central to all we wanted to do. Hotel is on the lake, and the surrounding park is perfect for a walk. Walking distance to beach and town as well. We had great dining experiences at nearby, and two days at the beach. The room was nice. We had access to a private screened porch, which led to the pool. We enjoyed the pool at the end of the day. The room was decorated in dark colors -- victorian style. Think they should brighten it up a little. Mattress was not the best. People were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was standard continental. Just enough for us. We would return. We would go back again.
"Beautiful and Relaxing"

The Hewitt Wellington is a charming and beautiful place to stay. The complementary breakfast is very nice, and the staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel right at home. I'm sure we will be back again next summer for another great stay.
