"The Hewitt Wellington Hotel - New Mgmt perhaps?"
I love the location and hotel, and have staid there many times in the past. However, when I arrived for a much needed vacation - I did not receive a nice reception/had a very bad first impression right from the start so most likely will not stay there again. When I went to check-in and handed the receptionist my credit card - he immediately started […] to say very negative things about the bank that was on my credit card (i.e. that it was going to go bankrupt, it ruined our economy, etc...). After realizing I wasnt agreeing with him - it finally occurred to him that perhaps I worked for the same bank - and my salary was paying for my stay there. Wish I decided to not make the trip and stay at home to relax - at least I wouldnt of been bombarded with such a negative approach on my vacation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A little disappointed"
Only one person working front desk and had to wait quite a while to check in. Check in closes at 6pm which can be problem if you weren't aware of that. had trouble working key in the door. Great quiet neighborhood though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is very nice hotel and it is very pleasent to stay quite opposite to spring lake. I will recommend to people who visit spring lake for holiday.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Out of town visitors from Virginia"
Made reservations due to proximity to the funeral we were attending. Church was next door. We were the only couple in the hotel due to off season. Hotel host was available when we arrived and available by cell phone if needed. Due to the off season, breakfast was not served. However, several establishments were open in town. Great location and view […] of the ocean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hewitt Wellington Hotel"
Loved it. I checked-in late - after the staff had gone - but they had a package waiting for me at the front desk. Room was great in this beautiful little corner of NJ. I checked out early - before the staff was there. I highly recommend the facilities, and I think the staff must be great, but I never actually laid eyes on another person while I was […] there. Charming, peaceful, and very nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely seaside victorian retreat"
The Hewitt Wellington is a lovely victorian hotel situated near the Lake in the center of town. The service could not have been more accomodating. It was not a peak travel weak, and I was the only guest at the hotel - so rather than setting out a buffet, they delivered my breakfast order to the room the evening before, where there was a refrigerator […] to store eggs/milk, etc. They provided google map directions to wherever I needed to go in town, which was very helpful. The rooms are charming - very clean, comfortable and quiet. The common areas are very gracious. And the restaurant in the hotel, "Whispers", is excellent. I'm not sure there was elevator access to the 2nd floor, but the stairs provided easy access to the rooms. I'd recommend this charming hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Hotel with a Quaint Charm"
From the arrival to departure to the hotel everything was very comfortable and friendly. The room was ready before check in and unique in layout and beauty. I would absolutely come back and recommend to anyone. If there could be any fault, it may have been the heating system. I turned the unit off and somehow even an hour later it would kick in and […] the room was warmer. Of course it was a cool fall, so warmer is better than cooler. Then again, being from Ft Lauderdale, I would sooner chaulk it up to possibly my own ignorance of the ac system since we don't use heaters. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A lovely place"
Our room was located on the 3rd floor and no elevator. It would have been nice to have a ocean view. The breakfast was very good. I am sure we will visit again and hope to get a room on the second floor. A very comfortable porch with a great view. William the manager was very helpful. I did not request a lower floor, but I will in the future.Genuine Expedia guest review

A really charming hotel, beautiful surroundings and the staff was great. We stayed one night and as we were the only guests, we got upgraded to the suites, and even got our own private porch. A really nice hotel that we can truly recommend!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely location, gracious staff"
We stayed just one night, the staff is very accommodating and pleasant. We received a call early in the day to let us know our room was ready and waiting. The continental breakfast was simple but with more options than I've had at other places.
"Nice place but could be improved"

We recently stayed at the Hewitt Wellington for two night and enjoyed the hotel and the closeness to the beach. The staff was friendly and helpful. The one area that sorely needs improvement is the breakfast. Please consider adding some items that are healthier and fresher to the menu.

Our room and all of the common areas were very clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. We chose Room #14 because we wanted a balcony. It was spacious and cozy. What we did not know was that the balcony was uncovered. It rained during our stay and we were not able to use the balcony. This was very disappointing. We were there for a quick 24 hours for our 5th wedding anniversary and were really looking forward to using the balcony, we paid extra for it. Obviously the weather can not be controlled but we wish we knew there was no cover. The other disappointing thing was breakfast. There was tea, coffee, juices and milk. I asked the woman at the front desk for some cold water, thinking there would have been a pitcher at breakfast. I was kindly directed to the vending machine where the water was $2 a bottle. All in all, I would go back. It's 3 blocks from the beach. The area is really cute and clean.

First Floor pool room could use updating. There was a huge floor model air conditioner with a hose out the window. If we needed to use it, it would have been a choice between sleeping and comfort. That said, the Hotel is charming, located directly across from Sprin Lake with comfy chairs on a wraparound porch. Decent continental breakfast needed re-plenishing.
"Perfect intimate getaway for me and my boyfriend"
09/15/14 Jorge A
I thought Spring Lake, NJ was very charming and intimate. I love how quiet and relaxing it was.The Hewitt Wellington is very much the same. My favorite part was being able to sit on the front porch and enjoy a few glasses of wine in the early evening. I highly recommend coming here during the post-Summer season when its not too cold to enjoy the beach and walk around the town. My only disappointment was that my bed cover had a couple of nasty stains on it, other than that everything was fabulous and comfortable, especially for a brief getaway from Manhattan.
"Good location, room in need of TLC"
09/12/14 Michael M Denver, Colorado
We really enjoyed our stay in spring lake. On the positive- amazing location- walk to shops, restaurants, beach and stroll the lake. The manager is very friendly and attentive. Our suite was roomy. Large flat screens in both rooms (almost too big). Nice towels. Lovely old home with tons of potential. On the negative- The decor is not what you would expect for the price we paid. The rooms were large but it was missing some comforts (like blackout shades) and needed some TLC. Porch furniture is worn, walls were in need of touch up. Curtains were wrinkled and not neatly hung. Old hardware jutting out from the walls. One rod is coming out of the wall. We stayed after Labor Day and still paid a over $250 per night. The value just wasn't there. We didn't try the breakfast after reading the reviews so can't comment. We'd consider staying there again if the rates were under $200 a night.
"Friendly, Relaxing, and Accommodating in a beautiful setting!"
09/11/14 Caroline N
Everything about the Hewitt Wellington was simply the icing on the cake for an outstanding weekend in Spring Lake for my beau and me, as we mellowed out after attending a family wedding that was way too much fun for our senior citizen bodies! So, we renewed our vocal chords and hearing by relaxing poolside (yes, the pool remained open after Labor Day, unlike the hotel we stayed in the night before), enjoyed hours in the sun at the beach, strolled along the boardwalk, and topped off our (sadly) one evening at the Wellington with a fantastic dining experience at Whispers restaurant on the premises of the Wellington. Our suite was beautiful, roomy, well-appointed, and oh-so-comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and friendly! I'm so happy I made this choice while looking online at B& B's in the area. I can't imagine a better location than the Hewitt Wellington.
"Not your ordinary stay at the Jersey Shore"
09/04/14 Carol S New Milford, Connecticut, United States
I had not been to the Jersey Shore in years. Too much hustle and bustle. The was the perfect vacation. Loved the Hewitt Wellington so much. We had the best suite I have ever stayed in. The breakfast, pool and very attentive staff were the best ever. I am looking forward to my next stay. I loved the quieter area of Spring Lake. The beach was fantastic
"BEST WEEK OF SUMMER"
09/03/14 Melissa K Media, Pennsylvania
Our family have been long time visitors to Spring Lake. Over 20 plus years. We always called the Sandpiper our place away from home. This year the Sandpiper is "no more" and with that our family was not sure we could recreate the same family birthday celebration week in 2014. We almost all thought about venturing to a new shore all together. It was very sad. Kathy came to our rescue and The Hewitt was fantastic!!! It was like we had been there for years. The entire staff were gracious, accommodating, thoughtful and very attentive. Most of all they knew when to assist and also when to disappear and let you feel like The Hewitt was your own private retreat. We will celebrate many more Leo Birthday Celebrations at The Hewitt Wellington for sure. We have already picked our rooms for next year and as long as the weather stays nice we will be down throughout the year to visit. The drive from Philly to Spring Lake makes it one of the most desirable beach/shore communities in the area. The other half of the family coming from CT enables us a fantastic "meet in the middle" opportunity. The real reason to come is the community is VERY SPECIAL along with the boardwalk/two block walk to the Ocean is unbeatable. We love The Hewitt Wellington and the only problem with writing a good review is that we don't really want others to come and enjoy/find our secret haven!!! We have dined at Whispers on many, many occasions and it continues to be consistent never disappointing!!! A must "hit spot" regardless of where you are staying. Our only disappointment is that unlike the Sandpiper (did not allow children) on some weekends there are many young children as many of the units are owned and not rented. We were very surprised on a holiday weekend how many infants were visiting as this is not a B & B really conducive to wanting to have children under 5 years old. It would not stop us from coming. I would also recommend some major cleaning efforts on projects. Ceiling Fans in the rooms need cleaning, chandeliers that hang in stairwells need dusting, Breakfast area we noticed same crumbs from day prior around trash cans. On busy weekends the pool area was not kept tidy and the daily recovery from breakfast was still visible into the afternoon. All things that are easily fixed. Overall it is a fantastic location, terrific staff and we would highly recommend. Kathy makes it a place you want to return to and there is nothing she won't do to ensure you have a enjoyable experience!!!
"Relaxing at the Jersey Shore"
09/02/14 Marepo Princeton, New Jersey
Stayed for 3 nights over the Labor Day Weekend. Hotel was spotless, nice continental breakfast, and every afternoon there was a special "treat" - ice cream bar, or cheese and crackers, sandwiches etc.. Beautiful older B & B, nice little pool and only 2-3 block walk to beautiful beach.. overlooks the lake, and of course Whispers Restaurant is Zagat rated and is something that should not be missed. If you are looking for a place with character this is perfect for a long weekend.
