We enjoyed our stay. The location to buses or walking to town center was very convenient. Breakfast was wonderful and the owners were very friendly and informative. Would return again.

What had promised to be a great stay on Sunday turned into a major construction location on Monday--numerous trucks, dumpsters of construction debris, multiple garbage pickups starting at 5:30 a.m. with big trucks. The room had everything you would expect or need, and a very comfy bed :) The hotel is not in the centre of Edinburgh but this is better not worse, you can park your car, there is great views of Arthurs seat and its a 20 min walk or 5 min bus ride in to the centre. Beautiful Hotel with lovely clean rooms. Breakfast just AMAZING. Hotel is a bit of a walk from the city centre but that didn't stop us from getting there and as we had a car we also went to the Edradour distillery, an hours drive but worth the trip. After hours of searching i found this town house hotel, and booked on the basis of comments made from previous visitors and i can tell you i am so glad i did. We initially took taxi as we were not sure how far it was from town center but ended up being a short journey. On arrival we were greeted with warmth and felt at home straight away. There are several places to go for food and the town center is only a walking distance, may be 20-30mins or if you don't like walking very short journey on the bus would get you there, but with so much to see am sure you would want to walk and take in the beautiful view. The hotel is in a residential area so its perfect to spend the day in town then night away from it. I would certainly book again and recommend it. Very hospitable with well appointed and very clean rooms. only slight concern was that being on a busy road one of the rooms gets a background hum of traffic. However they've triple glazed the windows so it doesn't interrupt a good night's sleep. Hosts are well informed about the local sights and very helpful. Breakfast was great!

Generally good experience, although bed was a bit soft for me, and you need to be fit for the stairs up to top floor! Good breakfast with lots of options. WiFi did not work in bedroom, but good down in the reception area. Walking distance to city centre and local shops and restaurants.

Hotel Ceilidh-Donia was our final stop over for three days of a ten day trip around Scotland. The hotel is set in a quiet location but within easy reach of bus access, Restaurants and Pubs. The Restaurant area is quite quirky with it's black and red theme. There is a bar area to relax in the evening after a long days walk around Edinburgh. This "Townhouse Hotel" is a large older townhouse converted into guest rooms. While our room was ok it certainly was different. It was a very long rectangle, much like a hallway with the beds lined up along one wall, the desk, dresser and TV along the other wall. When asking the host for directions or information he would point out his map and the information […] on it and was not about to go out of his way to give any further explaination. We found him rather rude. When he needed to check the shower in our room he just came in and proceeded to work on it even though we were still in the room and getting ready for our day. He then left and returned with another workman while we were still there. We hadn't noticed any problem with the shower but he insisted it needed fixing right then. They serve a nice breakfast, but don't ask to substitute or leave anything off, they don't do it. A nice house but not very sociable staff. Read more

Clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff and two beautiful and well-behaved dogs. My room was on the second floor and had a sitting area in the bay window with views of Arthur's Seat. Great place to stay in Edinburgh. Near several restaurants but 2 kms from centre. Family run but very professional. Most hotels could learn from them about how a room should be set up. Edinburgh central prices are very expensive so finding such a place within walking distance is a welcome surprise. Breakfast great.

We were met on doorstep by Annette. She explained everything and helped us with travel and eating out. Locallity very quiet. Local pub/restaurant "Salisbury Arms" had great range of ales and pleasent ambience. Breakfast was excellent as were the staff. So much nicer to stay at a family run hotel like this than in one of the impersonal chain hotels! It's a little way out of town but well served by buses or a pleasant 30 minute walk to the centre. My partner and i chose this hotel because of its location near to the city centre and the great reviews it had received.We were not disappointed,we arrived 2/3 hours before the check-in time,but this was not a problem because our room had already been cleaned and we were allowed up there to drop off our cases and have a freshen up. The were in addition to shampoo and soap also hair conditioner and body lotion, and some makeup removal pads. The tea/coffee tray also had a small bottle of mineral water, […] replaced daily, and hot chocolate power. You get the picture, I hope. There's a computer in the lobby with a printer and they are both free to use. The hotel wifi is also free to use. It didn't work very well in my room, but they will give you a network cable so you can use wired network. On arrival you are given a very useful map of the city centre and the hotel area, with many restaurants, pubs and other useful amenities marked on it. The main minus of the hotel might be that it isn't located within a walking distance from Edinburgh attractions. You need to take a bus. The bus stop is really close, the buses are quite frequent (5 minutes wait on average?), and the drive is not long (15 minutes?). In a very large city this would be nothing to think of, but Ediburgh is very compact, and some people might prefer to pay more to be within walking distance of the centre. Read more

We booked for a week at the end of September based on other recommendations and were not disappointed. The hotel is very comfortable and the staff very helpful. We were three in a room - three beds. It was a bit crowded but we could spend an evening supping tea without being in everyone's way. Other comments have noted the heated towel racks and glorious […] showers. They are, although when a few days got warm the heated racks added to the discomfort. They were turned off after the second warm day. So someone was listening. I did encounter a problem flushing the toilet. Soon learned that British toilets need a firm push on the handle not the gentle nudge we are accustomed to. Ample free street parking is advertised. There was lots, but most of it was used! At the worst we parked a block away, and so, it wasn't an inconvenience. It's a 20 minute walk to the Royal Mile, but the buses were frequent and convenient. Most restaurants are a ten minute walk. There is a pub five minutes up the main street. It has pretensions to grandeur, and so, is a bit pricey. Staff were friendly, although slow. A new Thai restaurant a block away was a mix of Thai and something else. We couldn't decide which. It just opened, and so, may be getting over teething pains. If we go back to Edinburgh we'll stay there again. Read more

While the location might not be close to all the sights, an easy bus ride makes this hotel excellent value. The staff was very helpful and the room was very clean and comfortable. Good bang for the buck...would recommend this hotel.
