The Cook and Barker Inn - Restaurant with rooms - Northumberland (county)

Was taken aback to find the hotel registration was located in the bar. The rooms are literally located over the bar and restaurant which while not ideal were not very noisy. The room was small, but clean and well maintained. We ate at the restaurant two nights and the food at both breakfast and dinner was outstanding.

Stayed over for one night with my other half. We opted for the bed. breakfast and dinner package which didn't disappoint. There was a good selection of food on offer and we could choose from the a la carte menu or mix and match with the rest of the menu if we wanted. we stayed here on the way home from a holiday in the Highlands of Scotland, we arrived early evening andthe Inn was really busy a good sign. Greeted with a warm welcome and our room was lovely we had a 4 poster and all mod cons. Hotel is fine, clean and tidy, very comfortable beds. Food is excellent but there is nothing round about, very remote. On checking out they firstly tried to charge us for our room despite the fact that it had been paid in full. However, they failed to charge us for dinner which we had charged to our room the previous night. After point thiis out they […] tried and failed to locate the bill, I was then asked what we had had to eat and drink and a bill was produced. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't recognise how honest I had been and offer any form of discount on the bill. My only other grip is that we ordered a latte after our breakfast and where charged for them, in every other hotel I have stayed I have never been charged for a latte as part of my breakfast. When we booked in there was not a reception desk so we had to go to the bar, which was not a real problem for us but the reception we received was very poor. We were given the key and told our room was number 15 on the top floor of the annex . I asked what time checkout was and was told 12pm I asked if it was possible to extend to 1 pm and I was told […] it would depend if anyone else was booked into theroom. When we found our room I checked averything out, it did not look as if the bathroom had been cleaned from the previous occupants as the toilet was blocked with "poo", this took me 5 attemps to clear the toilet. If it had not been for the fact that w were tired after a long drive from Scotland then I would have complained at the time and at first I thought that the toilet just needed flushing, but it the bathroom really needed a deep clean. All the time we have used this sight we have never had this experience and we were deeply upset. As for breakfast the only part of breakfast which was hot was the plate and the egg, the rest was not even warm. As no one had told me if we could put our check out back an hour we checked out at 12pm and when we handed the key back we expected someone to ask how was our stay (which I would say is normal) but they just took the key and said thank you so at that point we decided that no one was interested in what type of stay we had. What a brilliant place to stay for peace and quiet. The room was very good with no noise. Highly recommended hotel for the following reasons: - Hotel was clean, plenty of parking - Easily accessible just off the A1 approx 8 miles before Alnwick - Big rooms - Excellent evening menu - Very good hot and cold selection for breakfast - Friendly staff Only bad point was that the showers could be a bit better.

Hotel is a pub close to the A1 (but no noise!). No reception for guests inside the pub and welcome is distinctly lack lustre. No information pack in room that was to the rear of the pub in a separate block. It was of a good size. Ancient TV and shabby basic bathroom. Free WIFi in rooms was a welcome asset. Lovely country inn with easy access to Alnwick and the coast. Very disappointed with the room - it was very basic and not at all clean. A very pleasant quiet inn with an excellent restaurant. The only down side was getting a single bed which seemed rather narrow. Also the TV reception was not the best no freeview. However free wifi allowed me to catch up with my emails and respond accordingly. Very friendly relaxed service. Would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel between a trip to Cragside and Alnwick. It's location to the 2 was brilliant although there is nothing else around. The hotel and restaurant is a lovely place to spend the night with excellent service and the food was delicious.
