Menlo Park Hotel - Galway

A little far away from the city square shopping district, however it had free wifi in the room (not just the lobby) and of all the hotels we visited in Ireland it had the best internet connection. Speedtest showed something over 30 mbps.

This hotel is on the older side, but well kept and the decoration tasteful. The service was superb with management offering to assist with issues like getting into Galway and Salthill unscathed. Breakfast was actually a made to order affair which made the food taste better than a placed buffet. Tea at night was great.

Menlo Park is about a 10 minute walk from downtown, so less noisy than being in the thick of things, but close enough to walk to everything. The hotel could use an updating or renovation as it is looking a bit dated, but the staff was very helpful and the rooms were comfortable.

Stayed at the Menlo Park during the Galway Music Festival. The location is not bad if you dont mind the 20 minute walk into town. The location is noisy right next to a busy roundabout. Cot was not in room when we arrived, however it was brought in and set up promptly. Bathroom had some peeling paint on the ceiling, but this would be expected from a bathroom without a ceiling fan to help remove moisture. Very good location with free car parking and only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Galway city. This was a bonus as the traffic congestion in the city can be bad at times. Overall the hotel was clean, staff were very accomodating and friendly. The food in the bar was excellent and really good value. We also ate in the restaurant another night which […] was very good as well. The bedroom was large, spacious and spotlessly clean. The only fault we had with this hotel was that the bedroom and the dining room were very hot and stuffy which made it a bit uncomfortable. It was possible to adjust the radiators and open the windows in the bedroom but it didn't seem to help. The hotel have said they will look into this matter and try and rectify it which I was pleased about. The breakfast was buffet style, lots of choice, fruit, yogurts, cereals, full irish breakfast, omelettes, scrambled egg, poached eggs and even freshly made pancakes. My husband is a coeliac and the staff were most accomodating serving gluten free bread and gluten free sausages at breakfast. There was a huge variety of gluten free meals to choose from on the bar and the dining room menus. This was a refreshing change from some hotels where we have stayed, where staff look at you in amazement when you ask for gluten free food. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Suburban location and not close to town centre, but a good spot for touring out of Galway or taking a taxi or driving into town. Room was clean, tea facilities in room were well stocked. Comprehensive breakfast. Very well run.

We were allocated a room with a view of air conditioning units. Didn't mind, but on opening the windows and hearing their constant hum, did. (It was a warm night). The requested move was handled in a very efficient and friendly manner by the front desk staff and by the porter sent to help us. Didn't eat dinner in the restaurant. This is the first time I've given a bad review to a hotel on Expedia -- normally the hotels I've booked through here have been very good. With Menlo Park, I felt the photographs were a little deceptive -- the furnishings and fittings of the hotel are rather more tired than the images suggest. The biggest problem, however, was that the hotel was massively […] overheated. We spent two nights in February there, with the radiators turned off and the windows open and the room was still too hot. When we raised the issue on checking out, it seemed as if the staff knew there was an ongoing problem, but nothing was being done about it. It is possible to walk to the city centre from the hotel, but it's not a particularly nice walk. It's safe, certainly, but the busy main road goes through a rather dreary and depressing part of town. On the positive side, the hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming and the hotel was relatively inexpensive. But I would not stay at the Menlo again and certainly wouldn't recommend it, I'm afraid. Read more

The Menlo Hotel was very conveant to NUi where we were attending an launch and this was why we picked it. The Menlo was quited dated but very clean and confortable. the night reception staff very helpful and friendly, however we did not recive the same level of attention by the morning staff (female) they were somewhat disinterested. The porrage was very cold and had to be heated up, bacon cold , sausages instade of tomatoes which were exchanged and warm, mushrooms lovely. My friends breakfast was luke warm also. we did not bother to complain at the time. it not not worth upsetting ourselves and let it pass. However, there was a DJ / Band playing till around 3am which meant it was fairly difficult to get some sleep.
