This was the first time I have stayed at a hostel and it was a fantastic experience. I was pleased with the welcome and the emphasis on comfort and a comfortable experience in an aggregate setting. They set a high bar for service and comfort.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you can put up with hipsters, this hostel is a great deal. I'd stay here again and am curious about similar options in other American cities.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Budget friendly and comfy!"
It was a quick reservation on my Expedia app to getting a place to crash for the night. It was clean and my first experience with a hostel- great deal!Genuine Expedia guest review
"good and the cheapest I found"
I stayed in a shared dormitory. I had the top bunk - unfortunately it was very shaky to climb! Otherwise, everything else in the hotel was fine with meGenuine Expedia guest review

"I had the time of my life!"
This is an amazing city and the Hostel is the best way to stay in the city. It's less then a 5 minute walk to the EL trains-- the Orange Line will get you to Midway Airport. It's close to the Art Institute, Buckingham Fountain, Grant Park and many other attractions. As far as ammenities go... The Hostel provides breakfast. It's not a fancy egg and […] bacon and pancake breakfast, just your staples: toast, bagels, fruit, and cereal which for $34 a night was fine with me. You do clean your own dishes which once again was fine with me. My room had 4 bunk beds, but there was consistently one not being used. I guess your experience will depend on the people you share your room with. The people who I roomed with were polite and respectful. The 2 sinks and 1 toilet and 1 shower were always available when I needed them so I had no problem sharing. Overall this was a great experience and I can't wait to go back again. Word of Advice: Buy a City Pass! It's $94 that will get you into 5 attractions and you get to skip the line. Saved me a 3 hour wait at the Aquarium! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hostel at a Great Location!"
The staff members at the front desk were very helpful! Excellent location, in the middle of the Chicago Loop. Conveniently close enough to the rail system. The hostel offers walking tours around the Chicago area every weekend. At the information desk, they provide lists of events around town during your stay. Highly recommended hostel!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"GREAT hotel and location for the price."
I paid $34 including taxes for a Monday-night stay. the rooms were in very good condition and the staff was VERY helpful and friendly. I would say the continental breakfast is sub-par - there were only bagels and big bowls of jelly and some cereal. The internet works very well and it works on every floor) (some reviews say it didn't work well and was […] only on the second floor) They do provide towels and a very comfy sheet/blanket combo with two pillows. Great place to stay! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good price and location."
You got what you paid. If you're not picky, it's a good choice. Be ware, if you're not a club memeber, you'll be charge additional $3. I just stayed there for one night. There are 3 other persons in the room. My bed is very soft. I'm very lucky--there's no roomates snoring. The hotel is near the subway. So you can hear the voice of the train. I'm OK […] with the sound because I'm not sensitive to transportation noise. The breakfast is OK. You have to wash dishes when you finish your breakfast. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Just fine. If you want to secure a locker, bring a lock. Bed was quite soft, but it beats the alternative. Location is adjacent to the train tracks, so luckily I had earphones and a white-noise-generating app on my phone so that I could sleep. Otherwise, it's a super-cheap sleep in a great location. Also, I'm over 40 and was fine with it - not just […] for kiddies! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient location for exploring!"
At first I was disappointed at getting a hostel to stay at, but I found out this is not your average hostel! The desk people were friendly and informative, the room was large and very clean, and not to mention had the warmest blankets I had during my whole stay in Chicago! La Salle and Jackson CTA stops are a short walk away, and the State Street shops […] are right around he corner, providing many clothing and pharmacy shops. There are many restaurants around, big chains like McDonald's and Dairy Queen but also some local fare, Pauly's Pizza was the best pizza I've had in a long time, and Max's Take Out offers burgers and hot dogs at really cheap prices. Both had extremely friendly workers and are great bites on a budget. The Willis (Sears) Tower is also within walking distance if you're like me and like to take it by foot. All in all, I was extremely happy with my stay and am recommending it to my friends who are coming to visit in the summer. There are computers for pay by use, laundry facilities, and a cafe attached to the hostel, and free wifi if you brought your laptop. Great service, awesome location, and all the public transport around will definitely cut your cab budget by a lot. It was he perfect place to relax during the weekend and I'd stay here again. Hostels aren't for everyone. I personally loved it! I got to meet a lot of awesome people. The hostel provides free walking tours, and group activities to the local attractions, as well as a ton of discounts at local places. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. My flight got in super early and the staff was very friendly and understanding. I was […] worried about having to share one bathroom with 8 guys, but there are more showers and restrooms down the hall and it was never a problem the whole week I was there. It was a fun stay, but again, hostels aren't for everyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hostel - Awesome"
Great location, safe, secure, in-room lockers, in-room shower and toilet as well as sink. 8 beds per room in 4 bunks, key-card entry into the Hostel at the front door, the elevators, and then into the room. Towels provided. Breakfast in the mornings is a bit skimpy, but it's a hostel for not too much a night, so what do you expect? Given the location, […] the fact that it's a hostel, and the incredible value, this place must be seen to be believed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"THIS PLACE IS GREAT"
Great place. Lots of interesting, transient people. In the middle/walking distance from everything I planned on doing before I booked stay. Everyone was very friendly. Bed was quite comfortable. "Excellent, way better than I expected!"
Everything was phenomenal. The hostel is safe, huge, and has all the amenities you could possibly imagine. The 2nd floor lobby is great for getting work done, and there's free Wifi everywhere in the building! My only compaints inlcude the fact that I wish the breakfast started a little bit earlier (6 instead of 7) so people who have to leave early for […] trips can still get something to eat,. Also, if you have a bad back, knee problems, etc, be sure to request a bottom bunk because the ladders to the top bunk can be ridiculously difficult to climb. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The staff in the hostel are very friendly.. the hostel is very clean and its location is superbGenuine Expedia guest review
"If you don't mind snoring and lukewarm showers"
then the hostel is for you--and maybe the showers get hot water in the other rooms, but in the room I was in it's actually an exaggeration to say that the water was lukewarm, since it was nearly cold. Other than that, it was what I expected it to be and basically what it advertises itself as being. You stay in a room with a bunch of strangers; the beds […] are a little lumpy, and their bunkbeds, but it's tolerable, especially if you're good at sleeping with others in the room and don't mind snoring or having someone enter the room in the middle of the night. At least the folks I roomed with were all very respectful and tried to be quiet--no problems there. The common areas were pretty cool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Only negatives were that my room was too warm and the computers were slow. I should have asked to have the temperature remedied and didn't. Very good experience. Very clean and quiet. Other guests were clean, quiet and pleasant. All ages.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

you get what you pay, with free breakfast, too soft bedGenuine Expedia guest review
It's much different being a bit older & staying at a hostel... I understood that going in, so I can't be dissatisfied, but it does remind me how I value my peace & quiet. Dorm room setting & obnoxious young college-aged & below being loud in the hallways... Can't beat the price though... I guess it all balances out...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient place to see Chicago"
Staff very helpful and courteous. Lots of info about area events and how to get there. Great down town location with all public transportation easily accessible.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place for anyone!"
If you are older and are getting a dorm room. Ask for a lower bunk upper bunk tricky for some of us that are of a certain age. But a very economical way to stay in Chicago if all you need is a place to rest.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, low cost."
I stayed in this hostel for the first time, for just one day. Clearly not oriented to the business traveler, which I was. Nonetheless, the location and cost pulled me in, and the opportunity to meet a variety of people. I was not disappointed in any way. The facility was clean, comfortable and quiet. I met a couple of young Germans traveling as students. […] They introduced themselves and tolerated my poor German - I may travel there again and stay just for the free tutoring!! It is very close to Union Station, so I could walk to it and to all my business commitments, though it was a couple miles to Navy Pier. It seems clear one could have a bad experience if roommates are inconsiderate, but this did not happen to me. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hostel for the money"
Overall, this was a good place to stay on a budget. Stay in this hostel if you want a cheap place to stay in a convienent location in Chicago! Bad: One of the front desk associates was not very nice and made the initial check in somewhat rushed and abrupt. The lockers to store your lugguge were all used so I had to store my luggage in the storage room, […] which was kind of worrying. "Great stay, especially with kids"
My husband and I took our 2 babies to Chicago just for a fun trip. We stayed in a private room at HI which was perfect for us. We were able to walk to the Art Institute, The Willis (Sears) Tower, down State Street for shopping, and to both the river and the lake. There are L stations within a block of the hostel. The hostel has impressive security...you […] need a key to get into the hostel after hours, to get into the lobby with the elevator, to choose your floor on the elevator, to get into your suite, and to get into your room. Enter your "suite" and you'll find a full-sized kitchen as well as a living room area with couches, chairs, a table and closets (great for storing oversized items like strollers). Each suite has a bathroom that is shared among 4 rooms. The private room has a bunk bed with a full bed on the bottom and a twin on top. Very comfortable. The closet in the room was big enough to unfold a portable crib (pack n play). The continental breakfast on the 2nd floor had croissants, muffins, toast, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, cheese. After breakfast, you are to wash your own dishes in the kitchen provided. We got free tickets to the Contemporary Art Museum and half price tickets to the Willis (Sears) Tower. My husband was trying to figure out a way that we could live at the hostel :), but they limit your stay to 2 weeks each year. For the rate they're offering, the location, and how nice it is, you'd be crazy to stay anywhere else! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, clean rooms and bathrooms."
My partner and I stayed here for Lollapalooza and it was great. It's located a block from Grant Park and about 1.5 miles from the Field Museum, the aquarium, several arts museums, and tons of other attractions. There's also plenty of restaurants within walking distance to choose from. The people working the desk were extremely helpful and the hostel […] has plenty of events for people traveling to Chicago to take part in ie) tours around parts of Chicago, pub crawls, etc. The rooms were extremely clean and our bathrooms were cleaned daily, I wouldn't even know that there were ten other people using the same bathroom as us! The breakfast in the morning isn't anything special, but it's complimentary and there's lots of it! Lots of amenities to enjoy, including a computer cafe and a game room...PLUS your room key gets you discounts at the Contemporary Art Museum. All in all it was a great stay and I will keep coming back here for Lollapalooza for years to come! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good place to stay on a budget"
The Hostel was in an excellent location near grant park and De Paul university and the financial district. It was a hostel so the accommodations obviously weren't 5 star but the place was clean and I found on a higher level than such places in Europe. I thought I would be the oldest person staying, but there were families and other older singles. I […] shared a room with 7 other women and they were all friendly and full of an adventuresome spirit. The staff was friendly for the most part and there was free internet that actually worked! I paid $40 per night and found that to be very well priced. If you're in the mood for a bit of adventure I would recommend staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Never stayed in a hostel? Absolutely worth it!"
If you don't care about 'bunking' with a few other people in a big room, this is for you. Very cheap, in the middle of everything and a chance to meet new people! There are lockers for secure storage in each room, lockers in the lobby too. Not luxury but a great way to have an adventure in Chicago!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"One is not as lonely as you think :)"
Great alternative from staying in a hotel. Great company if traveling alone and half the price :) Will most definitely will stay again. ThanksGenuine Expedia guest review
This was my first stay in a hostel. Honestly, the reviews were right on - very clean overall and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It seems like there was a lot going on at the hostel as well - they had like an international dance party with free dinner one of the nights I was there. Only downsides are that the bed mattresses are slightly worn […] in (dip in center) and the hostel is located right next to the trains - I'm a sound sleeper so these things weren't a big deal for me. Also, if you aren't a member of Hostels International, you have to pay a small $3 per night fee - again, not a major issue. My biggest issue was finding overnight affordable parking. I paid way more for parking than for my hostel stay. Aside from that, it's in a GREAT location, great staff, and overall great and affordable place to stay. Rooming with the other guys dorm-style was completely cool. I will definitely be staying there again the next time I'm in Chicago. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place to stay on a budget"
The hostel had a great location and was very close to public transportation and Millennium Park. Amenities were clean and convenient. I stayed in a room that fit eight--four of whom were from abroad--and we all got along fairly well. The only problem I had was that one of the girls was a major snorer, so I'd suggest bringing along earplugs if you're […] a light sleeper (and possibly an eye mask if you keep earlier hours). Overall, it was a great experience though and I'd definitely stay here again in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central location downtown"
This was my first exp. at a Hostel. Great location, pretty nice staff. Make sure you bring wash cloths. If you are not a member of Hostelling International there is a $9 charge per night for non-members. The Con'tl breakfast is good other than washing your own dishes in the kitchen. Very safe, you have to use a key card for the main hotel door, elevator, […] quarters door, and bedroom door! There is a nice game room and theater room for leisure.
