Upon arriving I felt I had made a great choice. The lobby and dining areas were updated and nice, and the area seemed quiet and good location for short travel into the heart of London. But once we were given the key to our room (and I do mean key, not card) things quickly went downhill. The walls were thin and old, so you could hear everything from […] the other rooms; the room was old and dirty; you had to sit in the stairway to use the wifi; and there was a lack of the normal amenities you would expect, such as curtains, a hairdryer, or coffee pot. I was so shocked at the state of our room the only conclusion I could draw was that they fixed up one room to use for their photos, but couldn't be bothered with the rest of the hotel. Positives: The staff was friendly, the beds were comfy enough, the bathroom was clean, breakfast was bog standard but fine, they moved us to a better room for our last night and gave us wine and some money back. Negatives: Our room was basically a dungeon- down in the basement and extremely cramped with hardly any natural light. The window didn't open […] and the air was incredibly stale and smelly, which wasn't helped by the blasting radiator. The single bed was under a precarious looking television on a bracket attached to the wall so the person in that bed couldn't watch television and had to live with the fear of it falling on them. There was also no headboard on that bed and it didn't fit against the wall so sitting up was difficult. We had to sleep with the door of the room wide open to get a bit of air in from the corridor, it was hard to breath and really smelly otherwise. We were woken at around 7am by the very loud screeching of chairs overhead as people were having breakfast- felt pads under the chair legs would have mitigated this. Naturally we complained and were moved to a much nicer room for out last night (out of 3), as there were no other rooms available till then. We were also given a free bottle of wine and some money back. The new room was much bigger and much nicer, no problems at all. But they shouldn't be using that dungeon room at all, ho human being should have to sleep in such conditions, let alone pay for the privilege. Read more

The staff are great, the food is really good. The shower didn't work in the room. The street light was right outside the window with thin curtains... Worth a visit if you like a curry house with beds? It could have been a lot worse.

Very helpful staff. Good continental breakfast. The rooms are quite tired but clean and reasonably comfortable.A small desk but no chair so I had to perch on the edge of the bed to complete my computer work.Overall good value.

We chose this hotel because it is close to where our son lives. We were very satisfied with the service and the room. Breakfast was an added bonus. We would definately use Tommy Miah's again and reccomend it to other members of the family visiting our son.

Family run hotel close to the heart of Islington. You get what you pay for here - bit worn in places but the staff are lovely and the rooms are spotless. Breakfast is self serve and consists of toast, pastries and cereal, but the coffee is decent. I would probably stay here again

As it was a last minute trip I didn't have many options within my price range, I choose this hotel mainly for it's location. Fairly grotty room, but I was impressed with the size and appearance of the bathroom, initially. Looking closer revealed cracked tiles and grout. We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a convenient location for the north/east of London and this place was perfect. We'd read a few reviews online with trepidation before we arrived so, have to admit, we were a little worried about what we'd find...but we were really pleased with our stay here. Yes the room wasn't huge (but it was plenty […] big enough for what we needed), yes the noise from the road was a little on the loud side (get some ear plugs or request a room at the back of the hotel), yes it was a bit of a rabbit warren to find your room after a few glasses of wine (probably more stupidity on our part than the fault of the hotel though!). But this place was clean, friendly and perfectly located for Islington, Shoreditch, London Fields etc. Breakfast was pretty decent too - no full english to see here but all you needed to get the day off to a good start - toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, juice...perfect! Can't complain about anything really. As long as you're not expecting Five Star and appreciate that this is never going to the most luxurious stay of your life then this was a perfectly decent place to rest your head. This is an OK budget hotel. Small, a bit worn down but pretty clean rooms, breakfast as simple as it can get so don't expect anything from the hotel. The main problem in our room was that it's extremely bad soundproof, feels like walls are made from paper and everytime someone flush or talked we literally woke up every time. Billigt och man får det man betalar för. Helt ok frukost men ingen höjdare. Rummet var litet men det passade oss då vi endast sov på hotellet. Rena lakan och en bra varm dusch fanns. Ingen service med det lilla extra från personalen( de kunde berättat mer om området osv).
