Beautiful location with retro rooms; clean. The only thing suprised me that they charged me extra when we arrived even though the hotel was paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's a pretty standard hotel, perfectly fine but nothing remarkable. Pretty much exactly what I need, just a place to pull over and sleep for one night. The only issue I had was there are practically no power outlets in the room, which makes it hard to charge your phone or other devices. I had to hunt around and eventually use the outlet behind the […] mini-fridge. That seemed kind of weird. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good buy for the money"
This is a quaint, "stuck in the 60's" motel. I liked the retro feel, but that also meant we had two full size beds (very small by today's standards) and no coffee in the room. They do have coffee available in the Tiki bar, but not until 7:30 am. If you are a "need a cup when I wake up" person, this is REALLY not good, especially when you need to be […] somewhere early. On the plus side, the room was very clean, the view from the small balcony of the mangrove bay was terrific and the front desk personnel were very friendly. We only stayed 2 nights, and I think that's about right for this motel. Any longer and I might have started having caffeine withdrawals! It wouldn't cost them much to equip the rooms with a small coffee pot and would help a lot. However, it does have a nice small fridge, which comes in handy. The location is great though, just about 15 minutes out of Key West. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sugar Loaf Lodge"
We stayed 4 nights and did Key West day and evening. Nice view, clean rooms. 60's dated furnishings but cared for. Would stay again if in the area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not modern but clean, quiet and comfortable."
We enjoyed our stay. Had wanted to visit Key West but all reasonably priced hotels were full and this was the closest we could find. Very satisfied with it. It was clean and surprisingly quiet. Hotel had a outdoor Tiki bar next to our room and they were playing Tivia when we got back one night. Once we got inside our room we couldn't hear anything. […] We stayed several nights and found it very quiet. Hotel was not modern but it was nice and we enjoyed it very much. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A beautiful location in the Florida Keys."
The Lodge's location is beautiful. Great views from your room and the Tiki Bar. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Free coffee in the morning. Rooms are spacious, clean, and with nice cold air conditioning. It's quiet for sleeping. A refridgerator in the room also. The Tiki bar is great with friendly locals and reasonably priced drinks and live […] music on Saturday night. We relaxed in the swimming pool after a fun day in Key West. We took the public bus to Key West that stops right outside the Lodge and is low cost especially if you're a senior. We had a very nice three night stay and would stay there again. "Basic motel with a great bar and view"
Not much to look at from the highway, but although basic motel layout, very clean and right on the water. Watch sunset from your little patio. Tiki bar is a local favorite, so you get to mingle while you let the vibe of the keys takes you over. A family of green iguanas provides a bit of entertainment as they run and swim next to the little bay. Marina […] next door has affordable charters available. Took a great sunset cruise with another couple. Restaurant was closed during our stay so can't comment, but local pizzeria delvers to your room. Hooray. Staff was super nice and helpful. Oh yeah, they have a pool, too. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It reminded me of my childhood. The room was clean and very retro. They offered free wifi which was a plus and had a cute outdoor tiki bar. They have done a great job of combining yesterday and today. Friendly family staff, nice to see there are still places like the sugar lodge to experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Late night singing and no wi-fi."
For $130, I would at least expect to be able to use the internet on my phone, but there was not only no wi-fi service, there was no phone signal either. Also, I returned to the hotel Saturday night with my elderly mother after spending a hot and exhausting day in Key West only to listen to a guy caterwaul, (yes, he was not even good), until nearly 11 […] at night. If this was to be going on, the front desk should have warned us and given us an option to have a room away from the tiki bar. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and will certainly come back. Much has been written about the interior and that surprised us. It is not the latest of the latest but who really cares if the rooms are roomy, confortable and clean with a spectacular view and a beautiful sunset to booth? This place offers a lot for the money and it is not to far for a […] little vissit to Key West. It definitely is part of the Old Keys and we hope it will stay that way. "Quiet getaway right down the road from the keys"
First off, this was probably the easiest check in/check out procedure. Perfect start to the vacation. Absolutely no problems with the room, location, or anything. The rooms are big, and old fashioned, but in a very good way. If you are looking for modern rooms with chrome finishing, don't come here. But if you are looking for a place close to Key West […] without all the hustle and bustle, this is it. The ONLY thing that I could gripe about was the fact that the on site restaurant was closed for renovations, but it wasn't even that big of a deal. All the rooms face the water, allowing for beautiful views 24 hours a day, and especially at sunset. The tiki bar is small and adorable and has live music on some days. This place is the perfect place to just escape your life for a few days and get away from everything. The drive to Key West takes about 20 minutes which was awesome. Overall, I would absolutely come back to this place whenever I'm in the Keys. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great getaway close to key west!"
Wow! If your looking for affordable, clean and retro, and quaint! This is it. I was nervous about booking this place, but so glad we did. The view out the back door was so nice. It has a boat dock, tiki bar, plac.e to sit by the water. and friendly helpful staff. I wish we would have stayed longer than one night. The furnishings are not the newest, […] but it was spotless! The tile in bathroom, the lamps were not dusty. I looked everywhere and it was clean. I look for stuff too, and it met my cleaning standards. "Nice family owned place, lots of local to chat wit"
I liked it, we were referred by a friend who has a house in the keys and said this was a nice family owned establishment and it was. I liked everything about it, the view, the room was clean and had a refrigerator/freezer. We were close to the tiki bar and they had live music on Sat. I would stay there again, thanks The price as reasonable as well. […] Some of the locals said they had not refurbished the place in a while but I felt it was fine and if they became the holiday Inn express than the price would have gone up considerably and we were looking for charm not upscale beauty so it was a wonderful experience, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The location was great..rooms were really clean.. very Key West.. laid back but comfortable. Would definitely stay there again. The view was spectacular..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
So this "Lodge" is more of a very old motel. The rooms are dated, and I think that the building used to be some sort of military housing way back when. But the rooms are large and the sliding doors open to the waterfront. You can literally walk with your snorkling gear on and hop into the water. They are pet friendly and everyone there is super great. […] Bonus feature is the tiki bar, which is frequented by everyone in town by boat. We will definately stay again, although it is a bit overpriced. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, Good price"
I made an online reservation to stay for one night. We arrived around 10 pm and somebody was waiting for us in the front desk. The rooms were clean with descent beds. The room has a good view. I remember when I was booking I read about free breakfast, wi-fi and parking. I got free parking and wi-fi but there is no breakfast served in this place (There […] is just a complimentary coffee.). One last point; before reservation I read a review which was complaining about bed bugs. When I stayed in this place I hadn't such a problem. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"All rooms have a nice view"
We found the hotels in Key West to be a bit expensive but wanted to stay on the water. This place is just a 15 minute drive from Key West and has a pool, restaurant, tiki bar, and nice views from the rooms. We enjoyed renting a kayak from the adjacent marina. We would definitely stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fantastic View for little cash"
An older but very nice place. The restaurant and Tiki bar were both nice. The pool and ocean view were great. Only issue was not enough outlets. There were only two spare outlets in our room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming motel with amazing views off of Key West"
The Sugar Loaf Lodge was everything we expected. We wanted a quiet place away from the craziness of Key West, and the location was great. The rooms overlook a bay/inlet (something) and the ground floor rooms lead right out to a grassy area adjacent to the water. There's a Tiki bar and a restaurant attached to the lodge, but the restaurant was closed […] on Monday and there's really no option for breakfast nearby. The rooms were clean, but dated. When we first got there, it was a bit musty, but after turning on the A/C, the mustiness went away. Overall, a good value with a great view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice place, but needs better maintenance for that priceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was super friendly but lets face it the rooms are a little less than desirable. it seemed as though we warped back to the 70's when entering the room. I will however say that even though the room was old it was a very decent stay. the location is excellent what with the ocean 10 feet from the sliding glass back door in the room. The internet […] connection was good. The restaurant was very good so much so we ate there 3 times in a 2 night stay. Tiki Bar was interesting, they had a soloist singer guitar player the first night we where there. I will say that it was money well spent if you don't care about staying in an old room. "Cool little place"
We had a nice time. It is close enough to Key West without paying the outrageously high Key West prices. If you are lucky enough to have a bottom unit, you have a nice outside area to relax and tan with a beautiful waterfront view. Tiki bar is cool too and they play live music. Overall, a nice little place.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Not for early risers."
If you are the type of person who can wait until 7:30 AM to get coffee and don't ever want to bring back leftovers from the wonderful restaruant you ate at that night, this place is for you. The room itself is okay. Nothing fancy. It has a very small balcony that you can sit and enjoy the water view. BUT it does NOT have a coffee maker. The Tiki Hut […] provides coffee at 7:30 AM, but if you want to get up early (like we did to go fishing) you will have to do so without your moring cup of joe. Plus if you went to a great place to eat and you want to bring home your leftovers for "lunch" the next day you will have to eat them cold because even though it does have a fridge, it does NOT have a microwave. Also, request a room the farthest away from the Tiki Hut. Ours was right next door and we could hear the party until it shut down. When they "serviced" the room, the made the bed and provided fresh towels, but we never got any new glasses and I doubt that they changed the sheets. I guess I just expected more fot $165 per night.
