"Quiet getaway right down the road from the keys"
First off, this was probably the easiest check in/check out procedure. Perfect start to the vacation. Absolutely no problems with the room, location, or anything. The rooms are big, and old fashioned, but in a very good way. If you are looking for modern rooms with chrome finishing, don't come here. But if you are looking for a place close to Key West […] without all the hustle and bustle, this is it. The ONLY thing that I could gripe about was the fact that the on site restaurant was closed for renovations, but it wasn't even that big of a deal. All the rooms face the water, allowing for beautiful views 24 hours a day, and especially at sunset. The tiki bar is small and adorable and has live music on some days. This place is the perfect place to just escape your life for a few days and get away from everything. The drive to Key West takes about 20 minutes which was awesome. Overall, I would absolutely come back to this place whenever I'm in the Keys. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean hotel next to airport for skydiving."
Clean hotel ( but older), nice staff, clean pool, close to skydiving, nice tiiki bar, close to Key West - We would come back. Wish the restaurant was open but great other ones are close by.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great getaway close to key west!"
Wow! If your looking for affordable, clean and retro, and quaint! This is it. I was nervous about booking this place, but so glad we did. The view out the back door was so nice. It has a boat dock, tiki bar, plac.e to sit by the water. and friendly helpful staff. I wish we would have stayed longer than one night. The furnishings are not the newest, […] but it was spotless! The tile in bathroom, the lamps were not dusty. I looked everywhere and it was clean. I look for stuff too, and it met my cleaning standards. If looking for cheaper than in key west, but close, this is your best bet. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice family owned place, lots of local to chat wit"
I liked it, we were referred by a friend who has a house in the keys and said this was a nice family owned establishment and it was. I liked everything about it, the view, the room was clean and had a refrigerator/freezer. We were close to the tiki bar and they had live music on Sat. I would stay there again, thanks The price as reasonable as well. […] Some of the locals said they had not refurbished the place in a while but I felt it was fine and if they became the holiday Inn express than the price would have gone up considerably and we were looking for charm not upscale beauty so it was a wonderful experience, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel does not allow fishing on site!!!! I felt like I was sleeping on a cot. Not very helpful in directing us to a local restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
50s Retro... was a nice location, great people, but never hasn't been remodeled for half a century. But with that said, teh 50s theme was kind of fun.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but overpriced"
The rooms are very dated but clean. There's not much around at all. However Key West is only about 30 minutes away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice service"
People very nice and rooms clean. A little expensive but very close to Key West. Older motel but well maintained.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location was great..rooms were really clean.. very Key West.. laid back but comfortable. Would definitely stay there again. The view was spectacular..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
So this "Lodge" is more of a very old motel. The rooms are dated, and I think that the building used to be some sort of military housing way back when. But the rooms are large and the sliding doors open to the waterfront. You can literally walk with your snorkling gear on and hop into the water. They are pet friendly and everyone there is super great. […] Bonus feature is the tiki bar, which is frequented by everyone in town by boat. We will definately stay again, although it is a bit overpriced. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, Good price"
I made an online reservation to stay for one night. We arrived around 10 pm and somebody was waiting for us in the front desk. The rooms were clean with descent beds. The room has a good view. I remember when I was booking I read about free breakfast, wi-fi and parking. I got free parking and wi-fi but there is no breakfast served in this place (There […] is just a complimentary coffee.). One last point; before reservation I read a review which was complaining about bed bugs. When I stayed in this place I hadn't such a problem. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We loved the location, the staff and enjoyed sitting at Tiki Bar with the wonderful water view and Sunsets. Sugarloaf Lodge is an older hotel but we loved the large comfortable rooms and beds. Need Coffee pots in the room. Updated rooms would make it my overall rating a 4. Having the resturant open would also be a plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location but old hotel"
Hotel is at a nice location but its dated. Room furniture and mattress is quite old. No microwave. Staff is courteous..Genuine Expedia guest review

"All rooms have a nice view"
We found the hotels in Key West to be a bit expensive but wanted to stay on the water. This place is just a 15 minute drive from Key West and has a pool, restaurant, tiki bar, and nice views from the rooms. We enjoyed renting a kayak from the adjacent marina. We would definitely stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fantastic View for little cash"
An older but very nice place. The restaurant and Tiki bar were both nice. The pool and ocean view were great. Only issue was not enough outlets. There were only two spare outlets in our room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming motel with amazing views off of Key West"
The Sugar Loaf Lodge was everything we expected. We wanted a quiet place away from the craziness of Key West, and the location was great. The rooms overlook a bay/inlet (something) and the ground floor rooms lead right out to a grassy area adjacent to the water. There's a Tiki bar and a restaurant attached to the lodge, but the restaurant was closed […] on Monday and there's really no option for breakfast nearby. The rooms were clean, but dated. When we first got there, it was a bit musty, but after turning on the A/C, the mustiness went away. Overall, a good value with a great view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
nice large room, on the 2nd floor, high ceilings, extra pillows always a plus. helpful staff on the front desk. balcony overlooking the bay with a view of the sunset.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice place, but needs better maintenance for that priceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was super friendly but lets face it the rooms are a little less than desirable. it seemed as though we warped back to the 70's when entering the room. I will however say that even though the room was old it was a very decent stay. the location is excellent what with the ocean 10 feet from the sliding glass back door in the room. The internet […] connection was good. The restaurant was very good so much so we ate there 3 times in a 2 night stay. Tiki Bar was interesting, they had a soloist singer guitar player the first night we where there. I will say that it was money well spent if you don't care about staying in an old room. "Cool little place"
We had a nice time. It is close enough to Key West without paying the outrageously high Key West prices. If you are lucky enough to have a bottom unit, you have a nice outside area to relax and tan with a beautiful waterfront view. Tiki bar is cool too and they play live music. Overall, a nice little place.Genuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful view! Wonderful warm pool! Great location! Helpdful staff. Enjoyed the stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for early risers."
If you are the type of person who can wait until 7:30 AM to get coffee and don't ever want to bring back leftovers from the wonderful restaruant you ate at that night, this place is for you. The room itself is okay. Nothing fancy. It has a very small balcony that you can sit and enjoy the water view. BUT it does NOT have a coffee maker. The Tiki Hut […] provides coffee at 7:30 AM, but if you want to get up early (like we did to go fishing) you will have to do so without your moring cup of joe. Plus if you went to a great place to eat and you want to bring home your leftovers for "lunch" the next day you will have to eat them cold because even though it does have a fridge, it does NOT have a microwave. Also, request a room the farthest away from the Tiki Hut. Ours was right next door and we could hear the party until it shut down. When they "serviced" the room, the made the bed and provided fresh towels, but we never got any new glasses and I doubt that they changed the sheets. I guess I just expected more fot $165 per night. "Place was just so-so"
The best thing about the room we had was the balcony. The room was clean enough but a bit run down. No coffee pots in the room which is not too bad as long as you can get coffee first thing in the morning. We are early risers and the first day had no problem getting coffee from the tiki hut when we wanted it. The second day there was no coffee to be […] found until about 9:00 which is about the time were ready to check out. Service was efficient enough , but nothing outstanding. "Convenience and character"
Older rooms but clean and comfortable. Some minor maintenance issues but nothing to preclude a good time. No food on premises except a pizza restaurant, leased out, with lousy service. Great views of bay and wildlife refuge. Not on ocean or gulf. Reasonable prices for so far south in the keys. Highly convenient to Key West (17 miles) or Marathon (about […] 22 miles). Great outdoor bar W/ entertainment. Great restaurant just down the road. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for Fishermen!"
Stayed here while I went on a flats fishing trip. It was perfect for me, as I was by myself. Don't think I would take my wife there. Hotel was nice, but just not modernized, which was nice actually. Plan on staying here again the next time i go fishing there!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Sugar Loaf Lodge Stay"
The check in clerk was very nice. There is a great restaurant, tiki bar and small marina right there. The pool is beautiful and only aobut 15 miles from Key West. The rooms are very old fashioned, but if you can get past that, the room is clean, has a flat screen tv, nice size with 2 beds and view of the water and boats with people enjoying the beautiful […] weather. We would come back again especially since the prices in Key West are about $400-$600 a night. Spend your money on food and having fun instead of rooms. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Natural setting close to Key West"
Huge rooms overlooking the bay, very natural and quiet, well maintained for an older property. All rooms have a view, the bar and Zaza restaurant are adjoining and are jumping. Do ask to stay away from the bar end of the building. Pool is OK and there is a salt water swimming area. Drive into Key West is doable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great place to stay just a short ten minute drive to key west. You get all the great benefits of being on the water without the crowd. They have a restaurant on site if needed. The food and service were excellent during our stay. And for the night time they have an ourdoor tiki bar which seems to attract the locals. Pricing was also reasonable for drinks […] at the bar. "Cheaper than Key West"
The front desk staff was very friendly at check-in. However, I was under the impression the Tiki Bar was not open which we later found out was open and had live music!! The rooms were clean, but the decor was a back to the 60's old Florida. Great views from the deck. It was a good spot within 20 minutes of Key West. "Overpriced and outdate"
The hotel was outdated, worn out, and very overpriced. It doesn't look like it has had any work done since the 70's. The bathroom floor was sticky and dirty-looking. We would NEVER stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a short ride to key west, but the place looks like it hadn't been updated since 1970. The view from the room was pretty. They all looked out onto the water.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and reasonable price!"
It's an OK hotel; nothing is fantastic but clean and not too expensive. AC is too loud, so I couldn't sleep well. Beds and bathroom are clean enough. View is good. They offered free coffee and donuts in the morning. It's not far from Key West; just 15 min drive.Genuine Expedia guest review
We were impressed with the Hostess. She was very honest and knowledgeable about the area. AND helpful on places to eat. The room was comfy with a Gulf view from second floor with balcony.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close To Key West"
we enjoyed the area and convinience of the area surroundings, it's very nicely situated and has a beautiful parnoramic view. However, cleanliness is very poor, rooms are dusty, sheets are stained, and rooms ahev a musty smell. Also no clock was available. in this room. it's unfortunate for this lodge, with more and consistant TLC this Lodge could be […] among the 3 or 4 star rating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quiet comfortable, great value"
This hotel was great value. We had a clean comfortable room with large screen TV which my daughter watched. We sat on our small veranda and watched a grey dove nest in the tree as we sipped our drinks.Small fridge in room was great for cold drinks and snacks. Air conditioning was excellent and worked great even in the soaring heat. We had plenty room […] for 2 adults and one child. The Tiki bar had entertainment, we enjoyed a local singer, guitar player. We met the locals who could recommend fishing trips etc. Russell who worked there was a great character and told us all the history of the place and the dolphin stories etc. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We relaxed in the pool and enjoyed the restaurant next door, which served high class food. SugarLoaf lodge is far enough from the busy Key West area but an easy car ride to get too. We spent most of our time heading North to Bahia Honda beach which was also a short drive and shopping at Winn-Dixie for snacks in Big Pine Key and took trips to Marathon to see Dolphin place and Turtle hosp. Sugarloaf Lodge is a great base to see it all and comfortable and affordable. I recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
