Really enjoyed our stay at esplendor. Would definitey recommend. We were told by other travelers in panama city that for the same price they got a small basic room. Ours was a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen --it was a condoloft- high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows.

A colleague and I booked a two-room suite, only to find upon arrival that there were no such rooms left. The extra bed they sent to the room was extremely small and uncomfortable, and no apology or discount was offered. While the hotel was nice, the service was terrible, and even though it's just a year old there was clearly maintenance needed.

What a smart move. The rooms condos were very spacious and well done. I stayed on the 37th. floor (3701) & had a view that was breath taking. The hotel provided free […] wi-fi as well as a computer with a printer for those who didn't have a lap tap. I took advantage of the spa service as well as the restaurant. Both were well worth the money. If you try dining @ the restaurant you must try the taste menu paired with the wines. It left me with a smile. Overall, I loved my stay at Hotel Esplendor. For a reasonable price, we got a beautiful 1 bedroom suite with a stunning view of the city, modern amenities, a super luxury master bathroom, and even a second bathroom. But the hotel was missing a lot in terms of service. First of all, the hot water in the shower was almost non-existent in the morning. […] Secondly, the service, while friendly, was inept. We asked for a wake up call on 3 different mornings and never got it. We also signed up for a tour of El Valle, which was a joke. We arrive early in the morning and the check in was only at 3:00 pm. They tell us to make a city tour until waiting. When we came back, there were no room avaiable for us ( 4 people and only one room with one king bed). We stayed at this room with an extra bed (3 sleeped at the king bed). The problems we encountered with the Hotel Esplendor include, but are not limited to, the following inconveniences: -The 2 bedroom suite we booked was not ready on arrival at 8pm, nor were any other rooms, since they had not been serviced due to a “lack of staff”. After waiting approximately 30mins they gentleman on reception suggested we went down […] stairs for something to eat while he tried to resolve the situation . We understood this to be a complimentary gesture, but the hotel insisted that we paid for this meal when we checked out, saying there was no record of such an offer. We refused. When we returned to the reception area there was no change in the situation and we were eventually offered two separate rooms : myself and two teenage daughters in one room, with my husband i in another room elsewhere. The following morning we were advised that a room would be available at 10a.m. We packed our suitcases ready for them to be moved to the new suite and left the hotel. When we returned at 3.pm the suite we had been allocated had been given to someone else. After another endless wait , and frequent requests to speak to the hotel director/owner and despite the hotel not being full and having plenty of rooms available we were shown a very dirty suite 19 hours after our check-in. We waited a further hour for a clean suite to materialise. This suite had no pillows or towels,crockery, cooking utensils or cutlery despite at least 5 requests. We obtained a hairdryer, iron and ironing board on the 4th day. The four of us shared 6 coat hangers for the duration of our stay. - The safe did not work, but was eventually repaired. - The people next door had a party until 2.30 am on the first night in the suite,there was an even noisier party the following night which resulted in security being called . It is located in a quiet area close to banks and only 2Km away from a nice shopping mall (Multiplaza Pacific). They don't know how to run a hotel...no bottle openers in the minibar, no hot water in the shower, and the building is leaning to the SW (I know that because shampoo bottles roll across the floor and the dresser drawers always come open...gravity always wins.) VERY UNSAFE!! Stayed at this holet from hell in the first half Nov. 2011.We woke up to find a stranger in our room at 1:00 AM at night. Very, very frightening and shocking, the worst thing you could imagine happening to you on vacation. Room doors don't double lock form inside the rooms. The Esplendor is already my favorite hotel in Panama city. I have stayed four times on business trips. It is practically new. Don't think of the Esplendor in terms of big lobby with sports bar and six restaurants kind of hotel. This is not what the Esplendor is about. The Esplendor has a small footprint, and the lobby is typical of European Hotels, […] small but elegant. It is 48 stories high though, and rooms start on the 22nd floor, great city views. What makes me come back to the Esplendor is the room. Which is NOT a room, it is a full size one bedroom apartment, full kitchen with brand new stainless appliances, living room with 40in. tv, one and half bathrooms! Granite counters, and dark wood floors. The king size bed is very comfortable, another 40in. tv in the room, and the full bathroom is huge. No bathtub here, which I never use, or jacuzzi. You get the idea, You will want to live here. The breakfast room is kind of warm for some reason, but its ok. Breakfast includes all you need, not fancy, but good and fresh. The Hotel has valet parking, and I have never been charged for it, it is a really nice perk, i hope they never change that because its one of those things you appreciate and remember. The hotel is very centrally located, nice area, safe, many restaurants and other hotels in the area, grocery store two blocks away. Im not sure if I would stay here with my kids, no burgers, sandwiches, or pizza on site, as far as i can remember. Read more

The wood floors in my room were buckling and the luxurious rain shower only managed to trickle out cold water. Ok. So here is my contribution. We just got back from a tour and decided to stay at the Esplendor Hotel in Panama City, Panama. We decided to try something a-little different this time. Let me first highlight the pros; followed by the Cons; and ultimately my personal preferences.  Pros: Nice big suite, Pleasant staff, Nice pool, Central air, Close […] to All, Complimentary breakfast, Very safe Neighborhood, $35 Airport Hotel Shuttle Service, Hotel owned taxies, available 24/7 for guides and transportation, In-house restaurant, Hotel cell phone loaner but Pay per use, free Wi-fi, and Two Bathrooms. I need to elaborate on the cons, so there are no misunderstandings.  So here it goes;  Cons: 1) Although the wi-fi if free, it is very unreliable. During our stay, some days it worked and some days it did not. Luckily for me, there was a near by free Wi-fi location. Also, the Wi-fi  only works in the lobby and not in the rooms.  2) Although the pool was open, I did not see anyone go in during our entire stay and the bar outside the pool area, was always closed.   3) The telephone system in the entire hotel was down for 2 days. I was told that they were having network problems.  4) No curtains in the shower nor bathroom. Which felt weird since anyone staying with you can see you from the living room and bedroom.   5) To get hot water you need to turn the knob to the left and let it run for a few minutes. knowing this neat little trick ahead of time would have saved us fewer cold showers.  On a personal note:  I am very used to the resort, all inclusive, private beach atmosphere. Panama city is far from this, since the beaches and resorts are hours away, so the people staying in these hotels are mainly business people. I was told the waters near the city are contaminated. The resorts are far from the city and in most cases you need to take a domestic plane to get to them, like  Bocas Del Torro or David. Not only is there a building under construction next door that work begins early and ends at sunset. The front desk is slow. The rooms are apartments; modern design and furnishings. this is the only plus. The hotel portends to be a luxury property and the books in the social areas want you to think that. But on check out I apparently left my credit […] card on the counter.The front desk never called the taxi driver arranged by the hotel ( which costs $5.00 more than any taxi); I called the hotel from the airport (left on hold for 10 mins... and was told it would cost me $35 for a taxi to bring me my card. We arrive after 5pm and It took us two hours to check in, because the room was not ready. The stove was not working. There is not hot water in the shower and the rooms do not have a bathtub. After reading many reviews for my first trip to panama I chose the esplendor. I was not disappointed. It's very low key but large and in a good neighborhood. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and they could tell I was a gringo so spoke English immediately. The room was HUGE and comfortable. Free wifi was a plus. The rooms and the hotel of the hotel are beautiful. however the SERVICE was terrible. First of all, the kitchen concept is very bad. You have that beautiful kitchen, but its completely EMPTY. in the room details it sais "cookware, dishware, and utensils". So when we arrived we found that note: if u need items for cooking please contact housekeeping. […] NObody answered at housekeeping so we contacted the reception to tell him what we need and that he should get a hold of housekeeping. as it turned out the receptionist did not know what kind of utilities are available for guests. So after half an hour more HSK contacted us and told us there are no pots so she will give us "what is available" afer 20 minutes more (already almost 1 1/2 h later) HSK came and brought us 2 plates and a pan. I asked her how we should eat, if we should eat with our fingers.Who brings u kitchen utilities without any cutlery??? No knifes, no cutting bored, nothing to stir ur food absolutely nothing available. Fortunately my boyfriend is panamanien so he called his dad that he brought us kitchen utilities so that we could finally cook. They did not even have a spoon. I tried to contact room service and / or the restaurant. They did not answer from 5pm until 11pm. Then finally at 11h30 i reached the bar and i asked for a spoon urgently, it never reached our room. There are 2 wine bottles in the room but now bottle opener which took again half an hour to get. At breakfast, my friend (panamanian so she spoke perfect spanish, 80% of your staff does not speak any english) ordered a hot chocolate. When he came with the coffee for me he asked my friend if she wants the coffee with milk, but she ordered a hot chocolate. The server said they dont have hot chocolate so she asked for tea. He said ok, took her cup, and he brought it back with coffee and milk!!??? Therefore there were the inevitable teething problems of leaks through the wall of the lounge and an AC system that only wanted to do what it wanted. If you are driving for the first time in Panama City to this hotel it may take you quite a long time to find it. The address on Hotels.com is wrong - there is no Gerar rd, there is a Gerardo .... road. OK, the best way to find this is to ask for "El Santuario", a well-kown church located between Avda España and Samuel Lewis, which is above calle 50. […] Best thing, take a taxi. we rented from Hertz - shameful useless maps they hand out. The hotel is a jewel with very comfortable beds. Few people seem to know about it, even the police, whom we asked for directions several times. The staff are very helpful, and the place is modern - hence it has no charm. It has a nice pool on the 6th floor. The breakfast staff are nice but seems to run out of stuff if you wander in around 9 am on the weekends. Other than that, if you're staying in the business/banking district this is a good one to be in. You can walk to El Congrejo where there are a multitude of restaurants and ambience. You'll have to take a taxi elsewhere. The room in reall a one bedroom apartment, with one master bath and a guest bathroom. The kitchen has a micro, a two burner stove and a full refrigerator, but abosolutely no dishes or pans or utensils to eat or cook. They do want you to purchase small bottle of water at $3.00 each, along with all the minbar expensive stuff. Never fear, there is a supermarket REY around the corner where you can buy food and everything to suit you needs including beer, sprits,wine and water. I would rate the hotel a 9.8 out of 10. I have used Hotels.com to book over 100 rooms and have never written a review until now. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL! First, this is not a hotel. They are condos that have been sold to investors and are being rented out as hotel rooms for the investors when they are not in town. What this means - you will not be provided with the level of service expected […] from a Hyatt, Marriott or Radisson or any real hotel that is staffed with competent employees. Second, when I checked in - half the lights in the hotel suite did not work. I walked into the suite and had to finally find a light switch that actually turned on a light bulb. Third, the staff does not cater to the customer. They are a bunch of scammers from Argentina. I have friends that live in Panama and when we went up to the room the front desk clerk said they had to provide their names. I didn't think anything about it since this is common when traveling in Europe until I checked out and they charged my credit card $110 for extra person fees. We went up the room to have a couple of drinks and left the hotel - why the extra person charge!!! There are only two towels in the bathrooms and they do not replace wash clothes. So you are stuck with only towels. There showers do not have shelves for soap or shampoo. You are forced to either remove those items from the shower with you or leave them on the floor. Fifth, They are building a high rise building across the street. At 7am they start using pneumatic jack hammers all day. If you are on vacation, do not plan on sleeping in. This project is not going to be finished for at least two more years. Sixth, the hotel is located on a one way street that is not convenient to locate. It is very hard to find and not convenient if you are driving a car. Seventh, they refused to pull up my valet parked car until I paid the extra person charges and refused to reverse the charge. The "Esplendor" did not live up to it's name. Here are a few examples from my 3 day visit... -the power was out in the hotel's rooms for 3 hours on the first day. The lifts were working so they must have been on a separate power supply. The front desk said this was a "Panama" problem although I had not experienced this in previous Panama hotel stays. -the […] "Business Center" was 1 computer in an unairconditioned room a bit larger than a walk in closet. There was no printer. In order to print something I had to e-mail the documents to the hotel's front desk...very inconvenient! -the breakfast buffet was horrible! Only 2 hot items on the buffet, scrambled eggs and pancakes! -the hotel room included a kitchen which was good but did not include any dishes, cutlery, even an ironing board. Yes, all these were available when I rang housekeeping but it would have been more convenient if they were already in the room. -the sofa in the room was leather which I am not a fan of but it becomes uncomfortable with the airconditioner vents are pointing directly at the sofa. The leather becomes really cold and it is not comfortable sitting on the sofa watching tv when the ac is blowing right on you! -there was no tv listing showing the channel names & numbers. This would have helped with the 100+ channels. -the room service menu had a limited selection. -at 3pm on the 2nd day my room still had not been cleaned. What a great hotel! My wife and I arrived a day early for our reservation at Esplendor Panama. No standard rooms were available and Esplendor upgraded us to a larger suite at no additional charge. The best part was that they kept us in the larger suite for the rest of our trip. The room was amazing with leather furniture, granite counters, wood floors, […] and million dollar views. The rainfall shower head in the bathrooms were a nice touch too. The beds were really comfortable with a bunch feather pillows to bury yourself into. Breakfast is the same each day, but there is variety and the food tastes good. The front desk is very helpful with dinner reservations, sending housekeeping promptly, and general suggestions around the hotel. The seafood restaurant down the street was recommended and did not disappoint. The only negative thing about the Esplendor is that it is so new that many taxi drivers do not know where it is, but we never had a problem directing them once back in the El Cangrejo neighborhood.
