Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Grounds were beautiful and well kept. Hotel 5 minutes from cute town shopping and restaurants. Free dvd rental of many movies. Alan and Lisa were great! Alan was so friendly, helpful and genuine. Thorp bush walk start 2 mins from hotel. Very pretty and easy walk. Would definitely stay here again!!

First impression with the check staff was ok, not really going out of their way to help. Initially the room was booked upstairs, since we had vehicle and some bags requested downstairs and close to park( Hotel seems to have been a Motel in the past). We got our down stairs room but it was still not close to Car park. No one offered to help with our bags we were shown a trolley. Was very difficult navigating the trolley as they very narrow fire doors. Our room was directly next to aloud laundry. And we were bothered with noisey over exuberent cleaners in the morning even though we displayed Do not disturb sign on door. But overall location was ok by the river. Service a bit lack luster.

Nelson was a delight...particularly after our ferry ride to Picton and the beautiful drive along the north coast of the south island. Perfect stopping point on one's way down the west coast. Our only "down point" on the hotel is that we would have preferred a more casual menu in the hotel restaurant.

Conveniently near the airport, Arcadia Motel is in Nelson (Tahunanui), close to Tahunanui Beach Reserve, World of Wearable Art and Collectable Cars, and Nelson Market. Also nearby are Christ Church Cathedral and Nelson Provincial Museum.

We stayed overnight at Arcadia Motel and we were glad that we did. The place was spacious with separate lounge/kichen area and a separate bedroom. The... owner Andy was very helpful when we enquired about excursions in Abel Tasman and also helped us booking them. Actually, we booked one activity with him and afterwards wanted to book another kayaking activity so Andy sorted that for us too. Once we got to Abel Tasman, the kayaking excursion was cancelled due to the weather and Andy automatically refunded us the money without further investigation. This was a one night stay whilst touring. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The new owners were very helpful and informative. They told us that since taking over the motel they were working hard to improve it - so it should only get better!
