Grape Arbor Bed and Breakfast - North East

I stayed at the Grape Arbor because it was downtown in North East. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and give you a feeling of old times. Peggy and her staff did a wonderful job and are always helpful and friendly. The baked good are made on site and you can smell them baking things for breakfast the night before. I really enjoyed my stay the only complaint i would have is they should supply all guests with ear plugs. A train went by about every 20 min. that kept me from sleeping well. Other than that the place was very nice.

B&Bs are more intimate and personable. The owner called us to ask if we had any dietary restrictions and also gave us more information about checking in and so forth. She had a nice set up with 2 buildings and while they were older, it had all the modern conveniences of the 21st century with air conditioning and cable t.v. The common areas were roomy […] and comfortable and nicely decorated. It would be a nice place to go to in the fall with the leaves changing. I never realized how pretty the town of North East, PA is. We want to go back. Peggy does a nice job. The only thing is that the train went by at least 50 times from the time we arrived until the time we left; however, It didn't keep us awake though as it seemed to add ambiance to North East the town. Before arriving, we received a call asking if anyone had any food allergies, and I explained that my daughter had tree nut allergies. The Grape Arbor B & B is really a lovely place, which is too bad, because our experience with the innkeeper was so negative that I would not recommend this B & B to anyone. We had a long drive to the B & B and I called on our way to inform the innkeeper, Peggy, of our arrival and to ask about the check-in process. Peggy basically chewed me out on the […] phone, informing me that she had already told me the check-in times and that she wouldn't be available at the time we would arrive. I was extremely apologetic, and I take total responsibility for neglecting to call in advance. I would certainly expect some annoyance, but Peggy was patently aggressive. I offered to have a family member check in for us during the prescribed check-in hours, which she refused. I spent the next three hours dreading our arrival to the B & B. Our room was lovely, and we enjoyed the house and the amenities (coffee machines, excellent Wi-Fi). However, we left the "do not disturb" sign on our door and it was ignored twice (once while I was in the shower, when the cleaning woman came in and began to strip the bed!) We only ate breakfast one day during our stay, and we found the food and service mediocre at best. We definitely won't be returning! Read more

The B&B is in a neighborhood surround by single family homes. Modest restaurants and a park are within walking distance. The room was decent. The shower and sink were the smallest I have ever seen...almost like an airplane. The community rooms (library/sitting room) are spacious and well decorated. The owner was wonderful and went out of her way to prepare a special breakfast of fresh fruit with shredded coconut for me early in the morning. The breakfasts were amazing, delicious and delightful. Geat attention to detail in all aspectsvof the accommodation. Extras free of charge include juice and water in the mini-fridge, home- made cookies available 24/7, and a library of magazines, books and movies. A couch would have been nice, but the armchairs were comfortable.
