Pictures of the rooms on the website were deceiving. The apt was actually a third of the size we thought it would be. There wasn't even enough room for a sofa in this place and the only tv was in the very small kitchen with a table and a few chairs which was not a comfortable place to watch tv. Actually, the bed was not comforable either and the entire […] space of the apt felt very confined and a bit claustrophobic. It was clean when we got there but the maids don't clean your room unless you've been there 3 days or more. The location was okay but did not seem like the safest neighborhood late at night. Almost forgot to mention that the fire alarm went off twice during the 3 days we stayed there and we had to evacuate the apt both times. Read more

It is actually not a hotel but University dorm with one floor dedicated to visitors. Good thing was that they had fully staffed kitchen where you can make your own breakfast or any other meal, very convenient. But the room itself was very small: narrow and long, but clean. Will stay here again.

I booked this room because of its location--central to events at the Edinburgh Fringe. The location was great, but everything else about the room was simply awful, and I would never stay here again. To be precise, it didn't appear to be a mattress, but rather a 4-inch (or so) thick box spring, with coils that could be clearly felt. I didn't expect air conditioning, but ventilation was very poor, as the windows only opened a limited amount, and the room was uncomfortably warm, even though the daytime temperature was between about 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit (= 15-20 degrees Celcius). In response to our vociferous complaints, the people on duty were as helpful as they could be, moving us to a somewhat larger room and providing us with a fan (they mentioned they had three of them), but there was a limit as to what they could do. The apartment was fine for our purposes. Not too cheap though. Mattress not very comfortable, but I've stayed in hostiles in Europe and this was better than that. It was kind of like being back in a college dorm. These are actually little studio apartments, emphasis on little. My wife and I had to get out of each other's way. The mattress was the singular worst I have ever experienced at a lodging, badly in need of upgrade. But there are a lot of hills in Edinburg, a lot of pubs, and after a full day of touring […] we had no problem sleeping on it. You can save a few pounds by taking advantage of the kitchenette. There is no AC. Our window opened, but not wide. Fortunately it was cool during our visit. The switch for the fan is above the door on the right, a short person will need a boost to reach it. It is linked in with the bathroom light, so not sure why it was turned off to start. I arrived with a suitcase full of dirty clothes, so discovering the coin op laundry faciltiy near the lobby was a plus. The location is within easy walking distance to the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, the Castle, etc. Not only was it very affordable, it was very clean and comfortable with plenty of space. It is in a very nice neighborhood and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

Part of a student housing project. Staff was helpful and friendly. Storage space for clothes was lacking - had to leave suite cases on the floor. But overall it was not an unpleasant experiece.

Convenient location, Royal Mile, university main campus and supermarkets are just a few minutes walk from the apartment. Not very quiet at night. Good kitchen facilities, heating system. The building itself is not very welcoming. The studio apartment is nice, but the bathroom is small.

This is in an apartment building that is dedicated to housing students doing graduate work at Edinburgh U. However, that is not a bad thing. The floor that the apt. was on was used just for "guests" and was quiet and comfortable. Security was tight (in a good way) and the entire property was clean and well run. Well maintained, clean, great bathroom (towels included) comfy bed, hair drier supplied, all kitchen appliances supplied including a fridge/freezer and tea towel (take your own tea and coffee etc.) nice dining table, good quality tv with a built in DVD player and nice and quiet. My one and only complaint would be that […] the good sized, full length mirror was nowhere near a socket so drying/styling hair was tricky. The apartments are in a good location with only a 10-15 minute walk into "town", i.e. the Royal Mile etc. A final tip would be that if you can, take the train and get a taxi to the apartments. We were very impressed with the Richmond Place Apartments! It's a special floor in a block of postgraduate student accommodation at the University of Edinburgh -- I had been in the rooms as a student before, but they have been totally revamped and are now unrecognisable! More than enough space for two people, and a nice wee kitchen area. Above all, […] it's such a convenient location! So close to George Square and the Old Town -- it would be perfect for the festival. It's not the most luxurious stay, I have to admit -- the mattress was quite thin, as were some of the walls (although we could only tell this when some of our fellow guests left very early in the morning and were shouting and running down the corridor -- we didn't hear anyone else, or any other 'normal' sounds). We had high expectations of this accommodation after reading other reviews and I'm pleased to say it actually exceeded them. Everything in the apartment, from the furniture to the extras, was high quality. Where other hotels seem to grudge any extras, this apartment had went the extra mile. This was a pretty decent place to stay if you're looking for an apartment style hotel with a functional kitchen. There was plenty of space for two people in this modern style mini apartment. Everything seemed to operate fine in the room except for the broken touch powered garbage can which was a bit of a pain, but not a big deal. Our only concern was […] the cleaning schedule. It seemed that they had set up some sort of cleaning schedule based on how many days you stayed there. So out of the five nights we stayed there there was only one day they came in and cleaned and changed the bed (the day before we left??). One other day they came in and closed the window which made the room heat up (No A/C) and turned the refridgerator to max cold which froze all the food we had in there. Very strange. Booked the hotel at the last minute as a place to stay whilst attending an event in the city, and was by far the cheapest in Edinburgh at that time. Less than 10 minutes walk from Princes Street the building is mainly student accommodation - though you wouldn't know it - with the third floor reserved as hotel rooms with it's own electronic entry system. […] The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the apartment was clean and very well presented. Parking is a little tricky however, as there is only on-street parking in the area, and at £2 per hour, with a max stay of 4 hours a little limiting. There were no parking restrictions or charges between 6.30pm on a Saturday & 7.30am on Monday, so if it's a weekend break it's not so bad, though it might be worth checking on the City Council's website in case this changes. We were initially parked around 100 yards from the hotel, though I was able to move the car almost right outside later in the evening then just left it there until we left on Sunday afternoon. The apartment has a kitchen with microwave oven, hob, kettle & toaster and was very modern & clean. There is tea and coffee provided, though I would recommend taking your own milk as the sachets of milk provided don't go very far at all. The bedroom was in a kind of loft, up a few stairs and the layout in general was very good. Overall a very pleasent place to stay, and a comfortable and quiet night's sleep. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, or staying there again ourselves. 5 stars! Read more

The room was small and narrow. It had a great kitchen, however during our 4 day stay they never cleaned, brought coffee and cream. It was cramped to place your luggage anyplace. Hard to watch the flatsceen TV as it was above the desk beside the bed and the room was only 6 ft wide. However the location is the only other thing that was good.

Richmond Place Apartments were ideal for my stay in Edinburgh. The location is great and the suite was fantastic, with brand new appliances. The only minor problem was that there was some kind of power safety cut-off to the heaters in the room, which meant they cut out and had to be regularly re-activated. Everything else was perfect!

Richmond Place apartments is a self-catering hotel. The room for 2 that we had was very small but suited us fine as we spent most of our time exploring Edinburgh. The bathroom was clean with new fittings. Then only quibbles with it were that there was only 1 towel hook, which was odd given this was to be a room for 2; and also that the toilet brush […] was smelly and needed to be changed for a new one. We brought it up to reception as we were leaving and the woman there was very apologetic and said they'd change it right away. The bed was a spring mattress, fairly comfy, again a bit small for 2 people but not too bad. Overall the place was clean and a good fit for what we needed -- a place from which to easily see Edinburgh. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from Waverley, the main train station, and a similar distance from the castle and the Old Town sights. A couple of good breakfast places nearby. Our favorites were a diner called City Restaurant and a tea house/restaurant called the Elephant House that was apparently a hit with J.K. Rowling when she was living in Edinburgh. Read more

We stayed at 5 different hotels during our Scotland vacation and this one was our favorite. Had we known this hotel was as good as it turned out, we would've stayed here our entire time in Edinburgh. The hotel is in a great location by the University and is close to lots of restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. It's a shared building with students, […] but we had no issues with it. The room we stayed in was really nice, modern, and very clean. We stayed here for 4 nights, did some laundry here in their shared facility, and moved on (unfortunately to a less superior hotel) The only downsides to this place were: some TV channels had poor reception (which was mostly fixed when we mentioned it), and no wireless internet. Overall, this was an excellent place and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone. Great value. Read more

Very happy with our stay at Richmond apartments. The room was perfect and the price was great. Having ones own kitchenette was wonderful. The only downside (and I'm stretching for this) is that it is a bit of a walk to the royal mile, princess street, and the bus/train station (15 minute walk).
