The staff was more than wonderful! Our room was a fantastic walk back in time, yet superbly comfortable with great details. The restaurant was great. The hot breakfast was delicious as well. This was a gem that should not be overlooked for a box hotel.

Nice older hotel, staff was excellent, food was very good. The room need work. Converted store room, small bathroom, ceiling needed work. We travel to VA 2 or 3 times a year, I would stay at the hotel again, but not in the same room (306). The Hotels.com price made it worthwhile.

Beautiful, clean hotel. You could feel the atmosphere as it was the beginning of twentieth century. They had free w-fi and breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

The service was amazing, and the complimentary continental breakfast was the best I've ever had at a hotel. The hotel itself was very old- and it showed. There was a gap along the bottom of the door that was 3 inches at its widest, and the room was a little small. Still enjoyed our stay very much.

This beautiful, historic hotel, in combination with a historic town with a pace and family traditions that make you feel like you stepped into another century, made to an unforgettable getaway for my husband and me. However there is a warning I want to give. The pictures of the rooms on hotels.com website are random and have nothing to do with the room […] that the price corresponds to. With that caveat, I can say that the hotel exceeded all our expectation. The room we thought we picked on the basis of the website picture, was spacious and intimate at the same time. The hotell was gracious enough to allow us to stay in that room, in spite of the fact that it regularly costs twice the amount we paid. It was in a separate building next door, but still part of the complex of buildings that,early in the last century, used to be a hospital and housing for the doctor and nurses The rooms are furnished with beautiful period pieces but have all modern conveniences. The hotel restaurant, with lace tablecloths and complete Victorian furnishing and decorations, is another treasure in the hotel. The food is great and the atmosphere transports you to the Victorian era. Read more

The restaurant has amazing food, the pub is relaxing, service was outstanding (the woman who checked me in was a grandma so I couldnt ask her to carry my bags :( ) and our room was a smaller size but cozy. The staff was friendly, responsive and helpful. The rooms were clean and decorated in their Victorian theme. A great spot to spend the night and venture along the town strip, go hiking or on winery tours. The restaurant was also very good. I would recommend and I will likely be back!

This little hotel has a lot going for it: location, history (it was built in 1902), nice staff and manager. We purchased a queen for two nights through Hotels.com, when we got there we had been upgraded to a suite with a whirlpool tub because they had run out of queen bed rooms. The problem was that the bed was hard as a rock and it was tough to sleep. […] On top of that on both Fri and Sat night we were there the Volunteer Fire Dept sirens went off which woke us up. The manager, Sam, was very nice and apologetic and gave us a gift certificate for the next visit. He said they are upgrading the beds and he has a complaint in re: the sirens. Read more

You should make note that there is no elevator. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we have to go up 2 flights of stairs. Also, although our room was very quaint - it really was tight for 2 people. We were very happy to find this little Victorian hotel very close to the northern entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. Well kept, cozy and pleasant. Highly recommend to anybody traveling to Skyline Drive area.

This is a quaint little hotel which reminded me of a bed and breakfast or an old time inn. It seems to be housed in an old renovated home in the downtown area. I only stayed one night and left early the next morning so I did not use many of the amenities. The continental breakfast was more than adequate, with coffee (of course), fruit, and bagels. Our experience far exceeded our expectations! The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere in the hotel was calm and welcoming. We enjoyed the antiques throughout the hotel (they leave the doors of unoccupied rooms open so you can explore) and we appreciated the little details that made each room unique.

No elevator. Putting senior citizens on 3 rd floor when hotel is not fully occupied is poor management. First room and second room were on third floor. We booked this hotel from the road and ended up getting there later than anticipated. What an adorable place! Upon arrival, the lady at the reception asked if we had had dinner yet, and when we said "no, but we'd like to", she ensured that they kept the kitchen open for us. It was a fabulous ending to a long road trip.
