Conveniently located. Poor communication facilities.In room phone did not allow any calls out,had to call reception,have them call the number and do it a very long and inconvenient way. Several people tried to leave messages,to my knowledge only one succeeded during the whole eight days. Left my wallet in the lobby one time,contained passport and several […] important items. By the time I realised it was missing,the reception had had it in their possession for an entire day,without alerting me to the fact that they had it.Im not complaining that they were good enough to keep it for me,but they might have saved alot of potential anxiety by letting me know they had it, The reception staff recommended the restaurant in The Red Lion across the parking lot,but failed to mention that there is another Red Lion,the Red Lion in Hinxton which is 2.2 miles away and was recently voted Gastro Pub of the year.Im sure this piece of information could save many a weary traveler the dreadful fare on offer at The Red Lion Whittlesford. We stay here often while visiting family in the area. It's convenient and clean. The beds are soft and saggy and the bathroom lighting is POOR. Otherwise, it's fine. Internet charge of 5 pounds per 24 hours is high considering you really only use it for a couple of hours in the evening if you're out all day. Rooms are smaller than at HI Express in the U.S. On the other hand, the price wasn't bad, there's a pub with decent food a few steps away and it's close to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. Close to Cambridge, too, of course. Pretty decent breakfast, too.

Wonderful staff, new modern facilities, very good location for road travelers, breakfast is only ok but can be upgraded for less than 5 pounds, perfect partnership with the Red Lion Pub and Restaurant across the street....I need only to suggest to change some of the mattresses for firm ones for people that cannot sleep in soft ones.

We booked this hotel last minute after deciding to go on a weekend away for my partner's birthday. The rate for the room including breakfast was very reasonable considering the close proximity to Cambridge and the last minute booking. On arrival we were very impressed at the cleanliness and brand new feel of the hotel and the lady on reception was warm, […] friendly and extremely helpful allowing us to check in before the allotted time. The room itself was modern and spacious and was very clean, all you could hope for. We were extremely impressed with the tasteful decoration and the comfortable bed which ensured a good night's sleep on return to the room later on that evening. The close proximity to the station allowed us to get into the centre of Cambridge in ten minutes, which was ideal. I also think this could be a first choice hotel for people attending the Duxford air show as it is in an ideal location for this too. The country pub next to the hotel was very pleasant and looked to offer a great evening meal menu, however we had already eaten in Cambridge so only had a drink here. The buffet breakfast was good and we ate as much as we needed to set us up for the day ahead. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend of family member and would book here again. Pleasant staff and room was clean but food facilities are poor. Either wait until 9.30pm for a pizza or go to the pub over the road. Not good if you have work to do. Didn't like having to pay £1.00 for a coffee from a machine in reception area. Room backed on to a railway.

Fantastic value for the off peak price we paid. We travelled with our 12 year old daughter so used the sofa bed in the room. Everything was ready when we arrived. Everyone enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning.

This is a "Ronseal" hotel. It does what it says on the tin. The location is functional and very convenient, the staff are efficient and courteous. The food at the nearby pub linked to the hotel, is good. The kedgeree I had was very tasty and well prepared. Try it. Clean, tidy and efficient, though there wasn't a lot of Soul.

Very impressed with this relatively new hotel and its facilities. Hot buffet breakfast included , air conditioning for what was a very warm 5 days stay (30 C +). Only downside was only 1 nearby restaurant/pub which was excellent although relatively expensive. More choice nearer to Cambridge.

We stayed for 3 nights during july 2012 .On arrival we where given a room on the 1st floor the room was small with 2 single beds as requested as we had been travelling for over 2 months we had rather a lot of luggage with us on asking for a rack to put suitcases on .NONE in hotel then requested top sheets for the beds as we both do not like having just […] a duvee as it sometimes too warm .When the sheets arrived doubles where told we don't have any others and just handed them to me and walked away .On the following day we had been to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford ,on owe return to the hotel the lift was out of order as this was saturday afternoon we were told it was unknown when it would be repaired .We explained to the on duty manager that getting up and down the stairs was a problem for us .We were given a ground floor room then as well as some assistance to move our luggage after my husband had struggled with the heaviest case . Large room with sofa and desk, complimentary coffee and tea, with lcd television. Very tastefully decorated in a contemporary style. Located right next to the train station, but you hardly hear them. The bathroom was a bit dark, but a superb hotel.

Nice hotel. It is off Cambridge and bit hard to find. Our cooling system broke down and they moved us to a twin bed room. Hotel is ok. Not many amenities. Ok for one night stay. Breakfast serves was very good.
