This was our second stay here. Everything was as lovely as we remembered. Room was prefectly clean with large fluffy towels, robes and slippers. Large balcony overlooking the water and town. Huge breakfast buffet had lots of cheeses, grilled vegetables, fresh eggs made to order, and also delicious sweets. Amazing views. This hotel is getting an elevator this summer! The staff is really friendly and kind. We asked for a tour of the other rooms, and wow, all the rooms we saw had the amazing water views, balconies, unique tiles, pretty color schemes. My fiancee went for a swim (April!) in the infinity pool while I lounged. Certainly a first class property. This town is a break from the touristy noise of the other Amalfi towns.

We had the most amazing stay here. The room was superbly clean, linen sheets, large fluffy towels, Frette robes, flat screen TV with Sky satelite, WIFI and a large balcony with water views. The service was very polite, the outdoor patio with views was amazing at breakfast and in the evenings for cocktails. The infinity pool overlooked the water and had large towels, lovely white chairs and cocktail service. Finally, we ordered massages on our balcony, what a treat. You really should take advantage of this on your first morning and relax your way into vacation, you will not regret it. The therapist brought in the table and did a great job. The only downside to this property was the inital walk up from the main street, but they had guys to carry our luggage and after the first time, it seemed shorter and like a nice way to close out the day. In addition, we had our small dog with us and they were very kind to him, which goes a long way in our book. 100% we would recommend this hotel and plan to return.

The hotel is cut into the side of a high cliff among terraces of lemon trees and is approached by it's own funicular. It has several terraced cactus gardens and an "infinity" pool overlooking the bay. Standing on the terrace or on your balcony the views are unsurpassed. We had a very pleasant stay in the Botanico for my wife's special birthday and the staff couldn't do enough for us. It has an intimate, comfortable feel and breakfast on the terrace was an experience to be remembered. Our room had two French windows leading on to each side of the large wrap around balcony. Hot water is always instantly available and towels and bedding were frequently changed. The staff are obliging and helpful and every whim is attended to, sometimes before you're aware of it yourself. However, I would not recommend it for anyone with a disability or limited mobility, as above the funicular there are a further 74 steps before you reach reception. Thank goodness for the willing help with suitcases. I guess that's the price to pay for the views. The food is excellent, although the main restaurant is expensive. Food is also available on the terrace or in the hotels own pizza restaurant.

Very happy with the hotel, staff and location. Exceptional views and quality of room and service. Nice swimming pool. Only negative is trouble finding it. Hotel Botanico is halfway up a cliff with no road up. You need to go in through a road to another hotel (Pietra Di Luna) round the back of it and then take llift/funicular up to a further set of steps to get to reception. Havingsaid that any trouble finding it pales into insignifigance when compared to all the positives. I highly recommend this hotel

We had a fabuluous holiday in this hotel. The staff are really helpful - especially the breakfast team who helped make our stay a really wonderful experience. The surroumdings are beautiful, infinity pool the most relaxing experience and the location is ideal for exploring the whole Amalfi coast. We would thoroughly recommend it.

This is a very pleasant, quiet, beautifully decorated, spotless hotel in a lovely location (up 210 steps) but I am not sure it warrants the 5 stars it professes to be. We did not eat dinner in the hotel as it is expensive and the food for breakfast was varied but the same uneaten cakes seemed to reappear for several days. Also a cooked breakfast is available but there is no menu and what you are offered depends on who serves you. Drinks are offered at the swimming pool but on a rather adhoc basis. Most of the staff try their utmost to please but there seems to be an overall lack of management supervision and direction particularly with regard to some of the restaurant staff who are young and inexperienced. However when we complained about the restaurant service and issues with the tap in our room which the hotel failed to repair after several requests the manager was most upset and upgraded our room and could not have done more for us. The owner owns a restaurant and hotel in the town and spends most of his time there - I think the hotel would benefit from him being around more.

"Beautiful views but....."
05/26/15 30italy15 Mesa, Arizona
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in April. Beautiful locations and easy access to Amalfi and the other coastal cities. I will say the majority of the staff was the best and very helpful but unfortunatley the Manager put a damper on our stay. One day the lift was broke and we had to walk up the 300 steps...that alone was not a big deal we had purchased a sandwhich at a market in town and after the 300 steps decided to sit at one of the outdoor tables to eat. The manager came out and not very tactfully said that we are not allowed to bring outside food in and eat it in the public areas, mind you it was 3:00 in the afterrnoon and that was a late lunch.... seems for someone spending that kind of money and just walking up 300 steps did not go over too well. The bigger issue was we had an issue with our shower door... it would not shut properly kept falling off the track. After saying something to staff a great and friendly handyman came and tried to fix it... it was temporary. When we told the manager the next day that it was still an issue, she proceeded to give us a lot of attitude and made us feel very uncomfortable, making a crack how "not sure how it is in your country but here we can just get things fixed right away" She acted like well we already know this but we can't do anything about it. We did not make a scene at all but were frustrated because if was about a 2 sq. ft. shower and water poured all over the bathroom, with 1 night left her only suggestion was well we could move you. Long story short a nice hotel with great views but definiently not a 5 star hotel, the customer service from the manager had a lot to be desired and the linens are more 2 star then 5.

"Italian splender"
05/23/15 DrivetoWrite Blackburn, United Kingdom
I have always wanted to visit the Amalfi Coast and together with my wife we chose to stay in Maiori on the recommendation of a colleague whose family come from the town. It is Italian in every way and it appeared there are more residents than visitors and therefore not a typical tourist destination. We chose to stay at the Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro after reading Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. From our welcome drink to the departing goodbyes, the hotel staff went out of their way to make our stay as perfect as possible. The Hotel is located on a mountainside and 98 steps (yes I counted them all) and a Funicular lift get you up to the front door. (There is an easier, if not longer way, to get there by following a footpath called Via Lazzaro which starts on Via Nuova Chiunzi in the town). You should, though, ride in the glass sided lift for spectacular views which get better and better as you reach the top. The Hotel Restaurant is called Donna Clelia and serves continental breakfasts with fruit, croissants, pastries, cheeses, eggs cooked any way and much much more. This is included in the room price. Light lunches are available and Dinner is served in the evening. We sampled Dinner on 3 evenings and compared them with the local Restaurants we had visited. The quality was superior to the local Restaurants. The pizza prices are comparable with town prices and other food was more expensive, however we did prefer Donna Clelia. In fact we would have booked half board if that been available. (Note to hotel management) Our superior room was big enough and because we had a corner room (302) we got a large balcony which stretched around two sides of the hotel giving fantastic views of the sea, the town and the surrounding villages. These views were also seen in the dining room and on the many terraces which make up the grounds of the hotel. Yes, we really enjoyed our visit to The Hotel Botanico and Maiori and would not hesitant to return in the future.

"Stunning Views, relaxation at its best, but pack lightly!"
04/08/15 Alexis L
This hotel was absolutely beautiful. The views are breathtaking, it offers anything and everything one might need for a relaxing vacation. The rooms are very comfortable and beautiful to look at with really cool architectural details. Staff was very friendly and attentive. When we arrived they had complimentary drinks waiting for us at the bar. The food was good but slightly on the pricier side--though I suppose that's to be expected given its five star status. The pool area looked lovely and had an inviting canopied bar, but unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of this due to rainy weather. A word of caution for those traveling in their own car. Its difficult to find as the one sign that directs you to the hotel can only be seen if you are driving westbound on the road along the water. The hotel is visible high up on the cliff side right away but finding the road that will lead you to it proved challenging...and that's because there is no road leading you to the front door! When you arrive you arrive at the base of the mountain. Here, there is a small building with a concierge/staff member that will take your luggage and show you the way up to the hotel. The journey to the hotel involves the following: walking up 2 flights of stairs, getting into an elevator, taking it up about 2 stories, getting out, walking up another 3 flight of stairs and then voila--the hotel lobby! Fortunately for the guy carrying our luggage we pack lightly but I cringe to think of anyone hauling several oversized luggages up and down those steps. Another note which may be of importance to some is that our bathroom didn't have a shower, only a jetted bathtub. We didn't mind this and found the jetted bathtub to be very relaxing but I know some people have an aversion to bathing in a tub. But if this is the only thing that would put you off to staying here its possible that other rooms have showers available. Overall, we loved this hotel and will definitely be returning. If my description of getting to the hotel seemed off-putting don't let it deter you. I just wanted to give a heads up for those traveling with large luggage and wearing stilettos. The views, ambiance and charm of this hotel make that little trek so very worth it!!

"Stunning location, very comfortable and relaxing hotel"
11/04/14 BordersTravelling Scottish Borders
We stayed here in early October for one week and were so impressed with the location of this hotel. Stunning views, which we enjoyed both from the terrace at breakfast time, and from our private garden, adjacent to our comfortable, albeit smallish bedroom, which had an additional loft area with two additional beds, although probably of more use to a family rather than a couple. The bathroom was tiny but very well-planned with a quirky, but powerful shower. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful, from reception booking tickets and transport to a music performance in Amalfi for us to Vittorio very kindly providing us with a packed breakfast as we had to leave for the airport at 6.45 a.m. He even had a couple of very welcome cappuccinos waiting as we came downstairs! He is a great asset to the hotel and his eye for detail was meticulous at breakfast and dinner. The cliff-top gardens are wonderful, with lemon groves, incredible cactus plants and, possibly, the most beautifully located swimming-pool on the Amalfi coast. I think it is important to mention the considerable number of steps from the lift up to the entrance level of the hotel. We were not aware of these until we arrived and anyone with health issues, or infirmities would find them extremely difficult. However, if you are reasonably fit, the view is certainly worth the effort!

"Pros and cons"
10/31/14 VaterZeit Copenhagen, Denmark
This is overall a nice hotel with some clear pros: - Location is really nice: perched on a hill overlooking the sea. Maiori is a nice compromise for the Costiera Amalfitana: bigger than its neighbors and with a small beach. - Staff is very nice and helpful, and always willing to walk the extra mile for the guests. - The swimmingpool is surreal: surrounded by lemon trees, with amazing views... However, I don't think the hotel has the category it claims (and for which it charges an exhorbitant price). There are some clear cons that will make this hotel not suitable for some people: - Steps: there is an elevator that saves part of the many steps, but there are still 80 steps till reception. They should be very clear about this: older people or people with mild respiratory problems or joint problems will have a hard time climbing up. - The hotel has great grounds, but the building itself lacks infrastructure: no indoor swimming pool / gym, no decent-sized dining rooms. Result: on a rainy day, everyone was trapped inside and dinner was served in a small room, kind of crowded and not so cosy. - The restaurant is just OK. I've been to Italy many many times and whereas this restaurant is nice, especially if the weather is nice and you can enjoy the terraces, it's just not super good. The price, however, would suggest otherwise... Same for breakfast: it's just OK, nothing spectacular. - Careful with the rooms: Even rooms in the same category differ a lot from each other, due to the specific characteristics of the building. We were two couples with superior rooms, with a sea view. One couple got a small room with a VERY small bathroom (not acceptable for the price and category of the hotel) but an amazing corner-terrace overlooking the sea and mountains (although it was the first floor and it felt a bit like sharing the terrace with anyone having dinner/breakfast). We got another room in the same floor. Very big room and bathroom, but the room had no windows! It had an amazing terrace, that is true, but no windows in the room. And when we took a shower, the drain was not working properly and it flooded the whole room. They offered us to stay there for the night and change to a suite the next day... well we left the room the next morning but then had to wait until the next evening, so we were room-less for some time... and then the promised suite was a room just like the rest. Careful with terraces/balconies: they're not private for each room. Only some cacti separate you from your neighbor = no privacy! - Last: Décor. This may well be a matter of personal preference, but in my opinion they try too hard. Too many fake antiques, too much gold and silver. I would appreciate a more simple, rustic atmosphere... In conclusion: it would be very nice if it didn't pretend to be so fancy and just embraced the nice essence of Campania. It's more 4 stars than 5 stars in my opinion, and I think it's very overpriced (although I admit this is a common problem throughout Italy).

"Wow, what a place"
10/18/14 LozzaJLondon London
A simply amazing hotel. The location up on the cliffs is spectacular, with beautiful views over the coastline. Eating breakfast on the terrace looking out over the sea every morning was draw-dropping! (Prosecco also helped too). The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and made us feel so welcome with our little baby boy. Service was great at all times, without being too stuffy. The facilities are excellent, and we enjoyed going up in the funicular (note to anyone travelling with a pushchair - leave it at the bottom with the concierge). The pool has amazing views again, and the poolside service very efficient. The food was tasty, and great that you could order a cooked breakfast included in your room rate. The was a great choice of buffet items too, and the waiting staff were very attentive and extremely welcoming/friendly. Our room was tastefully decorated, with a separate mezzanine level where the baby slept. We also had a garden area on our balcony, with sun loungers and views over the sea. Felt like we had plenty of room for all our stuff with the baby. The only part of the room that needed updating was the bathroom, which was also very small. But don't let that put you off! We also really liked the location, as you're out of all the hustle and bustle of the tourist towns like Amalfi, but close enough to easily visit them with a short bus ride. The town has a nice shady promenade on the seafront, and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. All in all it was our favourite hotel of our honeymoon, and we can't wait to go back. You won't be disappointed if you stay there!

"Bella Botanico is a treasure!"
10/13/14 Laurie P Clinton, Connecticut, United States
The water views are stunning and the hospitality and service are incomparable! My sisters and I enjoyed a six night stay in this lovely hotel at the end of September. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by an amazing staff including Maria Angele, Gabriele, Pasquale and Melania. Breakfasts were served on the terrace with a million dollar view by Vittorio. His service was impeccable and he made us feel that no request was too much trouble. The breakfast was one of the best we've experienced with fresh fruits and juices, pastries, meats, vegetables, cheeses, yogurts, and eggs to order. The latte macchiatos and Vittorio specials were delicious. Maori is a friendly town and it was easy to travel by bus and taxi to Ravello and Amalfi. We enjoyed two delightful boat trips to Capri and Positano from Maiori through Capone Maritime. The climb to the hotel is not for the faint of heart...after a ride in a private glass elevator guests still need to climb over 70 steps to reach the lobby. Our room was spacious, clean and we were thrilled by the amazing view from the private terrace outside our room. The infinity pool was beautiful, if a bit chilly, and we enjoyed our day and swimming at the hotel's beach club. Of special note was the invaluable assistance provided by Pasquale when Air France cancelled our departing flight to Paris. Through his valiant efforts and magic touch seats were found on another airline and we were able to continue our vacation. We cannot thank you enough! Our sojourn at the Bella Botanico is etched in our memories and we hope to return!

"First visit to Maiori"
10/13/14 Kok1971
We stayed at the Hotel Botanico in early September and would just like to echo the comments made by other guests - the hotel is gorgeous, the views are wonderful and Maiori is a quiet but very pleasant town and it still feels italian, especially in the old streets around the hotel. The breakfasts were wonderful and really set us up for the sightseeing we did. Special mention to Vittorio, he made every meal a special occasion with his wonderful sense of humour and pleasantness. He is most definitely an asset to the hotel. My partner looked forward to the surprise omelette he had almost everyday we were there!! If we return to Maiori, I would have no hesitation in staying again, despite all the steps!! 😀

"A good choice on the Amalfi Coast"
10/09/14 laphroaiger Germany
A good hotel on the Amalfi coast. We had a junior suite, which was spacious and had a small terrace with a stunning view of the coast. Room was clean, staff was very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was really very good, served on a terrace overlooking the Amalfi coast. Maiori itself is not that crammed with tourists as are Amalfi and Positano, so it is more quiet.
