This was our second stay here. Everything was as lovely as we remembered. Room was prefectly clean with large fluffy towels, robes and slippers. Large balcony overlooking the water and town. Huge breakfast buffet had lots of cheeses, grilled vegetables, fresh eggs made to order, and also delicious sweets. Amazing views. This hotel is getting an elevator this summer! The staff is really friendly and kind. We asked for a tour of the other rooms, and wow, all the rooms we saw had the amazing water views, balconies, unique tiles, pretty color schemes. My fiancee went for a swim (April!) in the infinity pool while I lounged. Certainly a first class property. This town is a break from the touristy noise of the other Amalfi towns.

We had the most amazing stay here. The room was superbly clean, linen sheets, large fluffy towels, Frette robes, flat screen TV with Sky satelite, WIFI and a large balcony with water views. The service was very polite, the outdoor patio with views was amazing at breakfast and in the evenings for cocktails. The infinity pool overlooked the water and had large towels, lovely white chairs and cocktail service. Finally, we ordered massages on our balcony, what a treat. You really should take advantage of this on your first morning and relax your way into vacation, you will not regret it. The therapist brought in the table and did a great job. The only downside to this property was the inital walk up from the main street, but they had guys to carry our luggage and after the first time, it seemed shorter and like a nice way to close out the day. In addition, we had our small dog with us and they were very kind to him, which goes a long way in our book. 100% we would recommend this hotel and plan to return.

The hotel is cut into the side of a high cliff among terraces of lemon trees and is approached by it's own funicular. It has several terraced cactus gardens and an "infinity" pool overlooking the bay. Standing on the terrace or on your balcony the views are unsurpassed. We had a very pleasant stay in the Botanico for my wife's special birthday and the staff couldn't do enough for us. It has an intimate, comfortable feel and breakfast on the terrace was an experience to be remembered. Our room had two French windows leading on to each side of the large wrap around balcony. Hot water is always instantly available and towels and bedding were frequently changed. The staff are obliging and helpful and every whim is attended to, sometimes before you're aware of it yourself. However, I would not recommend it for anyone with a disability or limited mobility, as above the funicular there are a further 74 steps before you reach reception. Thank goodness for the willing help with suitcases. I guess that's the price to pay for the views. The food is excellent, although the main restaurant is expensive. Food is also available on the terrace or in the hotels own pizza restaurant.

Very happy with the hotel, staff and location. Exceptional views and quality of room and service. Nice swimming pool. Only negative is trouble finding it. Hotel Botanico is halfway up a cliff with no road up. You need to go in through a road to another hotel (Pietra Di Luna) round the back of it and then take llift/funicular up to a further set of steps to get to reception. Havingsaid that any trouble finding it pales into insignifigance when compared to all the positives. I highly recommend this hotel

We had a fabuluous holiday in this hotel. The staff are really helpful - especially the breakfast team who helped make our stay a really wonderful experience. The surroumdings are beautiful, infinity pool the most relaxing experience and the location is ideal for exploring the whole Amalfi coast. We would thoroughly recommend it.

This is a very pleasant, quiet, beautifully decorated, spotless hotel in a lovely location (up 210 steps) but I am not sure it warrants the 5 stars it professes to be. We did not eat dinner in the hotel as it is expensive and the food for breakfast was varied but the same uneaten cakes seemed to reappear for several days. Also a cooked breakfast is available but there is no menu and what you are offered depends on who serves you. Drinks are offered at the swimming pool but on a rather adhoc basis. Most of the staff try their utmost to please but there seems to be an overall lack of management supervision and direction particularly with regard to some of the restaurant staff who are young and inexperienced. However when we complained about the restaurant service and issues with the tap in our room which the hotel failed to repair after several requests the manager was most upset and upgraded our room and could not have done more for us. The owner owns a restaurant and hotel in the town and spends most of his time there - I think the hotel would benefit from him being around more.

After a week in the HBSL we can only join the positive reviews - fantastic location with a lovely infinity pool, attentive and friendly staff... Contrary to some other reviews, we find the breKfast to be excellent, both the assortment and service. Suggestions to the management: old milk bread rolls are not edible, the bread basket should be refilled more often, and plain yoghurt would be appreciated. Although we give the hotel the highest ranking, it has to be pointed out that its weakest spot is the room. Sizewise, the closet is for instance so small that there is hardly room to accommodate one person's belongings. The bathroom is tiny, with a mini shower cabin, and there is no room at the sink to place anything but the basics. We have to unfortunately agree that the rooms are not well cleaned. At departure, we checked the drawers, and discovered some clothes from the previous guests, the management is invited to check underneath and behind the bed... It took the maid 1.5 day to replenish the used up toiletries. On some days there were fresh towels and a piece of chocolate in the evening - and on some not. At one point, the wifi password has been changed by the management and nobody bothered to Inform us - a note left in the room or placed at each of the tables at breakfast would have sufficed, There was a Neapolitan dinner on Saturday - we discovered about it on the information board on Sunday. In a 5star establishment, the guest should not inquire themselves after many hours of nonfunctional Internet to figure out that the code has been changed, Also the park above the hotel would look forward to some LTC.

"A very enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel"
06/29/15 KarenUnity Northampton
We stayed in this lovely hotel for 10 days for a special birthday and returned home a few days ago, as other reviewers have said it is a lovely hotel, friendly staff, the most fantastic views and a lovely pool. However, in our experience it did fall a little short of being a 5 star hotel, small things like broken light switches in the bathroom, hardly any room to put clothes, with plenty of room for at least an extra set of drawers in the room, a fridge that did not work for the entire 10 days and when reported I was informed that yes they were having problems with some of the fridges but if we needed anything to drink we could order from the bar on room service free of charge, which was fair enough, although we did not do this. The beds were also very hard. The rooms are kept very clean, with two visits a day and a bed turndown service which was a nice touch. Special mention for Vittorio who did the breakfast service every day we were there and Alfonso who carried our suitcases to the taxi when we had an early departure time, although partly in the lift, there was still a lot of steps to negotiate and he did it with ease! Maiori itself was a revelation, a lovely authentic Italian town with lots of character and plenty of restaurants, a special mention to Mario E Maria a very authentic, very reasonably priced restaurant in the main street, we ate there several times and had a lovely welcome every time, they felt like friends we we left. Dedalos further down the main street was also exceptional food and value. Torre Normanna was the highlight of our week, a 12th century NormanTower set in the sea with the most amazing sea views, go if you can, not as expensive as you might think and superb food and service. Il Giardiniello in Minori was also exceptional, We did not eat at the hotel at night at all as there was so much choice in the town. The Matinee Bar was very reasonable for late night drinks too, great atmosphere. It is easy to get to the rest of the Amalfi coast from Maiori via the excellent bus service and boats from Amalfi. Don't miss Ravello and Amalfi itself, Postitano much busier and more touristy. Salerno is also with a visit as it is off the beaten track and very italian. We also hired a rigid hull speed boat from the very helpful girls at "Capone" a kiosk just by the beach, a a great experience. All in all we had a fantastic holiday at this hotel, even though there was a few niggles, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

"Excellent in every way.."

We booked 4 nights, three full days at this hotel for mid-May. Everything was simply outstanding about this hotel. 1. The breakfast was exquisite, relaxing and simply breathtaking. Nothing beats the view at breakfast. 2. We only had dinner once at the hotel and chose the pizza lounge, again, excellent food and service. 3. The service at the front desk, in the restaurants, at the pool and during breakfast was also outstanding. Friendly, quick and always ready to answer complicated questions from ignorant tourists. 4. The rooms were very nice and opened up to magnificent views. 5. The mini Gondola/Fenicular was very fun. 6. The various levels, grounds and terraces of the hotel added an element that you usually don't get from the bland squat towers that most hotels resemble. And we liked Maiori. The other towns along the Amalfi Coast were tourist traps and filled with more tourists than one can handle. Maiori felt like a real Italian community where people lived. It was the right choice to stay here and visit the other places. Would go back. Loved it.

"Excellent service, 5-star luxury, panaoramic views, gorgeous hotel"

This was one of the greatest experiences of my entire life. This hotel is outstanding - impeccable service, gorgeous botanical grounds, an infinite pool overlooking panoramic views of the sea, an amazing restaurant and more. Andrea Cimini, General Manager, made me feel like I was at home. He was extremely gracious and hospitable, making sure my stay exceeded my expectations. The entire staff was extremely accommodating - AnnaMarie at the front desk took care of booking my taxi back to the airport. They also helped me with my trip to Ravello, a nearby cliffside town where I spent the day wandering through the villas, taking in the views and more (a must do!). I give my experience at Hotel Bontanico San Lazzaro my highest recommendation for true 5-star excellence, service, luxury and relaxation. You won't regret it!

We had an amazing week at the hotel. It is a beautiful location including a fabulous cacti collection, pool and its own section on the beach. We travelled there with our two young (3 and 4 year old) boys and were looked after wonderfully. It must be one of the best views in Maori. We were very sad to leave. All of the staff were extremely helpful and caring, but special mention to Flavia and Luigi who went above and beyond to help us out. We would return in a heart beat.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The hotel is new and beautifully decorated in the Amalfi coast style. The hotel staff was kind and helpful in giving recommendations and helping us book activities. The breakfast was amazing - one of the bests we've had in Italy, and finally the location is great, a few minutes walk from the beach and a drive distance from the other towns. We loved it that Maiori is not as touristy as the other towns, when you return from a day trip in Capri, Amalfi or Ravello, you get back to a more laid back town and have dinner with the locals.

Had high hopes for this hotel after reading all the positive reviews and wasn't disppointed. First, I would highly recommend staying in Maori. I had never heard of it but read about it after finding all the hotels in Positano and Amalfi I wanted to stay in full or way out of my price range. Maori is much quieter than Positano and Amalfi but has nice restaurants, more beaches and can reach the other towns by car or bus or taxi. Botanico one of the more expensive options in Maori but totally worth the spluge. It's perched in the hills and has a spectacular view, Although's there a funicular there's still a lot of steps. However, a staff member will bring your luggage up. We stayed 4 nights in late May/early June. Our room was a standard yet still had a balcony, just chairs vs loungers. Only complaint was that bathroom a bit cramped. Facilities immaculate, the pool is gorgeous with plenty of loungers. Check out the little Jacuzzi and there are lots of little nooks to sit in. We didn't go to the beach. The staff is the biggest reason to stay in the hotel - they are attentive, gracious and incredibly helpful. We were welcomed with pineapple juice among arrival beforer checkin and our luggage brought to the room. I especially have to praise Anna at reception who gave ups maps, booked restuarant and tour reservations for us and explained the bus system. So helpful and sweet. The breakfast is incredible with everything from crosisants to pizza and quiche on the patio wioth a great view and you are offered eggs or omelette. Vittorio a very gracious member of wait staff. WE had lunch but not dinner at the hotel, is a bit pricey but food lovely. Definitely hooe to go back in the next few years.

"Not 5-star"

We stayed in 5 Italian cities during our vacation. Botanic San Lorenzo, the only 5-star, was the least favorite. The positives: the hotel's position on the side of the cliff is the most beautiful view imaginable; the rooms are beautifully decorated. The negatives: the elevator from ground to hotel lobby (several hundred steps) only works intermittently; the rooms are not very clean (all the lower star hotels were much cleaner); the restaurant staff is unwelcoming - actually seemed disappointed that we chose to dine there; breakfast was abundant in choices but most were not fresh and even included leftover pizza from previous night!; the beach club restrooms were out of order during our stay. I would save my $ and stay at a lower star hotel.

We stayed for 6 nights at the end of our 2 week honeymoon in Italy. It was such a fantastic hotel - yes there are lots of steps and when you arrive at the bottom of the lift it feels like you are round the back a messy housing estate but as soon as you step inside the lift and start the ascent to the hotel it all changes. The staff were fabulous, very attentive, polite and accommodating. I've read the previous review and would say that we asked Ana at reception about a map and local activities and she couldn't have been of more help. Breakfast was plentiful and the "nibbles" we were served when having drinks in the evening were sometimes a meal all on their own. The Beach Club was finishing some refurbishment while we were there but it is very well positioned and Alfonso the lifeguard was warm and friendly. We had a late flight "(10.40pm from Naples) that allowed us to spend the whole of our departure day on the beach - the hotel were very accommodating in arranging for a room for us so we could shower and change before departing. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly like to return for a long weekend stay. We found Maiori very relaxing and unpretentious.

"Nice Hotel."
06/17/15 Laura K Thornhill, Scotland, United Kingdom
We have just returned from a one week stay at the Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro and had a very enjoyable visit. Our first impressions of the hotel were (like most reviewers), amazement at the position of the hotel, the lift and all the stairs. Although we had read plenty of reviews and knew about all the stairs, it still comes as something of a shock to realise how steep the climb up is! Our welcome was good, room lovely and bed very comfortable. We didn't go for a superior room and so only had deck chairs on our balcony as opposed to the rooms either side of us (presumably superiors), which had comfortable sun loungers. I felt this was a bit mean. We chose to eat out in Maiori mostly, as the local restaurants serve excellent food, but what we did eat in the hotel was very nice. The view from the hotel was superb and a joy to wake up to in the morning. We felt that the hotel could provide a lot more information, such as a book in each room, which is normal in most hotels, offering a map of the area, information about tours, a menu etc. There is a very nice girl in the local tourist information shop where we managed to find out and book our tours/boat trips etc but absolutely nothing in the hotel foyer to get you started. We found Maiori to be a charming town with more space than the other surrounding towns and on the flat, which would be much more suitable for more elderly travellers. The staff at the hotel are all lovely, all in all a very enjoyable stay.
