I loved my week-long stay at the Raintree hotel at Anna Salai. Our guest room was laid out in sensible and comfortable fashion. The decor was pleasing, the furniture arrangement, perfect; most important of all, the bathroom was exquisite. For $36 a day, we got a room upgrade, 24-hour wireless internet, laundry, dry-cleaning and a breakfast + lunch/dinner […] buffet at the Kitchen. Our room included all other usual amenities. The hotel staff were magnificent: e.g. a minor TV reception issue was fixed within a minute of our contacting them; a tear in my shirt was brought to my attention before its wash, in case I had missed it (which I had), housekeeping always left the room spik and span and waiters at all the restaurants, from the roof-top Up North to the lounge-level Kitchen were cheerful and attentive. I can't say anything bad about this hotel. In a whole week, I never tired of the food in the buffet: there was no end to the variety in the cuisine and range of palate-tingling appetisers, main courses and desserts. The rooms offer an eco-conscious setting on the lights and air-conditioning and the staff do everything they can to help you enjoy your stay. I would go back any time! Read more

The Raintree at Anna Salai (Mount Road) is fantastic. We were in a Club-level guest room and it could not have been more pleasant. The room afforded great convenience and amenities; the space and design were such that my friend could relax in one part of the room while I made a work presentation via Skype. The roof-top restaurant, Up North was delightful but the breeze can be strong late evening so pin your hair back, haha... The staff are very professional and courteous and anticipate your every need. I stayed here on a business trip for 7 nights on my first trip to India. Turned out to be a very good decision. The Raintree is only about 3 years old so everything works and is in good condition. There is an army of staff, all of whom speak good English and seem genuinely motivated to help. As a typical timid westerner I stuck to the hotel for meals […] unless I was being taken somewhere by my local hosts. So it was just as well that the three restaurants offer pretty good value. The "Kitchen" offered buffet style breakfast, Western, and Asian dishes. I happen to like Indian food but there were plenty of alternatives. Unusually for buffets, the dishes changed daily. The rooms were clean and had all the usual bells and whistles with especially well equipped bathroom and shower. So, overall exceeded my expectations. And the deal I got was very reasonable. I am going back to Chennai at least a couple more times in the next 12 months and I am not risking going anywhere else. Read more

As some travelers suggested the front desk can be a little snickety but overall fantastic experience. We stayed in the junior suites with a fabulous view of Chennai. There is a hotel taxi associated with the place which slightly expensive by Indian standards but very reasonable by US dollars. The breakfast bar is excellent with very good service. This was my first time staying at the RainTree Anna Salai and I can summarize it in one word - superb!! From my first moment to the last - the hotel staff took care of every need that we had. Hotel was very nice - lovely helpful staff, very clean nice rooms, delicious breakfast and relaxing rooftop pool. Location is ok, not walking distance to anything and on a really busy main road which is usually gridlocked due to building of metro outside. The roadside rooms have the din of traffic with horns blasting non stop so I took a room near […] the elevator and away from street noise and noticed the 2cm gap beneath my door which allowed in all the corridor noise of passers by and doors slamming. I enjoyed the pool a couple of times and ordered delicious sandwhiches served poolside which were really great but more expensive than any other meal in Chennai. Mini bar prices while reasonable by Western standards were unrepresentative of local prices. Would have been a nice touch to make them complimentary instead at very little cost it's a great touch. A good business hotel in the centre of city Annasalai. Very near to other hotels like Hilton, Hyatt, Courtyard etc. Approx 35-40 minutes drive from airport. Will have a metro station nearby once it is ready. Helpful staff. Iron board and Iron in the room. No slippers. Excellent Gym and rooftop restaurant.

Generally very pleasant. Hotel decor is very good, and the staff are very obliging. Rooms and lobby were kept clean. Due to Metro rail construction, tre traffic was heavy and extremely inconvenient to get in and out of the hotel.

My only reason for making a two day stopover in Chennai was to take in some of the wonderful annual Carnatic Music and dance festival events.... I choose the Raintree because it looked good and reviews were generally outstanding. In fact the place is very clean and efficient and the Kitchen restaurant serves excellent food. But the overall experience […] wasn't satisfactory because I had written and asked to have specific information about music events (and even tickets) available to me upon arrival. But this didn't happen and even after consulting with the person at the Travel Desk, still nothing happened. The next day I went around myself to various venues in search of information. I missed everything on Saturday (a big disappointment) but luckily caught two fantastic performances on Sunday before my onward flight.... when I come back to Chennai in the future I will know how to manage the festival properly but I won't stay or recommend the Raintree. It also annoys me that they charged close to 1000 rupees for airport pickup and I got back to airport in a brand new sadan car for 200!! It also annoys me that we planned to take solice at the pool on Saturday (because we were missing all the music events....) but it was closed! -- And we didn't get a notice about that although apparently we should have. A better choice for my lifestyle would be New Woodlands which is close to about 15 of the most popular festival venues. OK. Life and Learn. I hope so! Read more
