"Below expectations"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Having stayed at the Landis Hotel in Taipei, I expected Icon to offer the same service quality or better. After checking in, no one bothered to show us to our room and introduce us to the facilites available. I booked a harbor view room for an increased price. Sure there was a view of the harbor, if you looked to the left side. Directly outside my window was the rooftop of the mall. The concierge was helpful. I had one meal at the lobby cafe. My mom ordered a chowder in bread bowl. The bread came out toasted with green mold!! How did they miss that?! Killed our appetites immediately! I've read comments comparing Icon to the Four Seasons. One of our travel companions stayed there and I had an opportunity to rest in her room during our long afternoons in Hong Kong island. The hotel is impeccable and there was definitely no mold in our food.

Decent size room for Hong Kong. Definitely not huge but plenty big enough. Nice bathroom. Perfect Kowloon location. Clean and nice

Considered the central business district, Central is home to the corporate headquarters of multinational financial services, consulates-general, and Hong Kong government and administrative offices. The area is also a major transport hub for buses, trains, trams, and ferries. Head to Hollywood Road for antiques and trinkets, and Soho for bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and galleries.

"Butterlfy on Wellington HKG"
Great location and good value. Staff was very friendly and I received a free upgrade to my room upon arrival. Rooms we not huge but were clean and modern. Location is great, short walk to the places you want to go in central. When you arrive at the hotel the lobby is up a floor from the street level so just take the elevator up one from the street level […] "reception", had me puzzled for a couple minutes. Read more
"Great value in Central"
Really enjoyed my stay at the Butterfly. Room was very clean - no smell in the hallway that was mentioned in the other post. Service was great as well. Love the location - easy to get anywhere in Central. Will stay here again on my next trip.
"Small rooms, good location"
About a 15 minute walk to shopping, good bars, and restaurants. The street isn't the nicest at the point of the hotel, but completely safe. Small rooms, but we were barely there. Well equipped bathrooms with good toiletries. Free Wi-Fi.
"Boutique hotel in Central"
Unbeatable location if you want to be in Central or Mid-Levels. No food in hotel but you're in a great neighborhood right by the wet market and the pulse of Hollywood Road, Lan Kwai Fong and Central. Very good value.
"Great Hotel"
Very Nice Hotel... Just a few blocks from the night life.
"Excellent price for a great location"
At first glance, the neighborhood where the hotel is situated looks rundown. However, it's PERFECT for quick access to all sorts of fun things: street vendors, tons of restaurants (of all varieties) and shops, and within walking distance to IFC, ferries, subway, and all sorts of tourist sites like the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, Hong […] Kong Park, the tram to the Peak... It's relatively cheap compared to some other places to boot! Hotel condition is nice and clean. You can even find slippers in the closet to wear after using their great showers! Only complaint is the beds were a little hard for my taste. All said and done, it was a great experience and will stay there again. Read more
"Butterfly on Wellington, Hong Kong"
Located in the heart of a great residential neighborhood with many restaurant choices, next to escalator and ten minute walk from airport train and two minute walk to Central Shopping. Very small room but not uncommon in Hong Kong, clean and modern; with helpful staff.
"Beautiful jewel - great value"
The Butterfly in Central Hong-Kong is easy to get to, and just a quick taxi ride to Victoria Harbor, and sightseeing. The room was a beautiful modern Asian design, with extremely comfortable bed and furnishings, and free wi-fi throughout. The concierge service was wonderful. I was a last minute arrival in Hong Kong but they made connections to put me […] with a same-day tour, and arranged a taxi to take me back to the train station the next day. There are coffee shops and fresh fruit stores nearby as well as some small restaurants if you want to eat in the area. Great value for the location and quality. Read more
"Butterfly on Wellington: convenient, pretty, but"
I really liked this hotel for the convenience, location, nice size rooms and price. However, they have a serious plumbing issue that causes some of the rooms to smell like mildew. We had to buy an odor absorber and keep the bathroom door shut at all times to keep the smell to a reasonable level. They even relocated us to a higher floor in the same stack […] (02), but it only helped a little. Their hallways and lobby are freezing cold, so be sure to bring a sweater if you plan to use wifi-- it works better in the lobby for free, than it does in the room for $$. The staff is terrific, they really do their best. Overall for the price, room size, decor, and the easy access to Central's shopping, restaurants, and transportation, Butterfly is a great deal. If you're sensitive to mildew, you may want to avoid the 02 rooms. Read more
"Butterfly on Wellington, Hong Kong"
Great location near the escalator and restaurants/bars and walking distance to all forms of public transportation. Reasonable price for a very nice, quiet room. Very comfortable bed and nice decor. I spent two weeks here and would stay here again.
"Great location for food and fun"
Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of Hong Kong. The staff at the front desk was extremely helpful. Easy walk to Soho and LKF.
"Butterfly on Wellington - Perfect Location"
Want to be right in the middle of the action on Hong Kong Island? The Butterfly is just up the escalator from IFC Centre, close to the MTR train station, Star Ferry and all the central sights. The room was clean, quiet and nicely designed. The staff was cordial and polite, but--fortunately--I never had to test their ability to handle a problem. Other […] reviewers' complaints about the surrounding neighborhood don't take into account that--hey, t's Hong Kong! Read more
"Butterfly on Wellington - Hong Kong"
This hotel has a great location in Central, nice contemporary/Asian decoration. The hotel is a basic and clean place for a short stay in HK where you need to be in Central. Not recommended for more than 3 nights.
"Amazing hotel and price"
Highly recommend this hotel, not only is it in a great location but I got it for about 1/2 the rate of other centrally located hotels that I would put in the same class as this one. The room looked brand new, and it was decent size (compared to other HK rooms I have stayed in). Definitely will stay here again.

"Great hotel"
The Butterfly is a beautiful hotel situated in a neighborhood that seemed questionable at first. The neighborhood has several food markets during the day, so it can be smelly at night. However, the hotel is wonderful in its cleanliness and upkeep. We arrived late and decided to take a taxi from the Central MTR station to the hotel, which I highly recommend […] when you're walking with luggage as there is a hill with several sets of stairs that you have to climb to get to the hotel. The outside of the hotel looks old and slightly run down, but inside is very modern and up-to-date. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The bathroom has a glass door, though, so if you're staying with friends, you had better be comfortable with them being able to hear you take care of business. Overall, the hotel is wonderful and well-situated, and I would absolutely stay there again. Read more
"Can't beat the location"
The Butterfly has one of the best locations in Hong Kong if you're there on business. Most of the other hotels in the area cost 3 times as much. But it's also great for tourism, located on an interesting street with plenty of local colour and charm in the neighborhood. The rooms are small but comfortable and nicely appointed, good value for the money. […] The staff are not amazing but they're fine. The only issue I have with the place is that the carpet in my room looked kind of old and dirty and the lobby area bathrooms were not very well maintained Read more
"Great stay!"
The rooms are a bit small but that is usual for Hong Kong. The bathroom is large and stocked with helpful travel things. The shower is very spacious and hot water is abundant. LCD tv in the room, very quiet and in a GREAT location. Near all restaurants, shops and short walk to IFC mall, and trains. Taxis are easily accessable as well, and the hotel […] staff is polite and helpful. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Read more
"Great Modern Affordable Hotel"
this hotel was a great central place to stay to see the city. Right in the middle of it all and was modern and very clean. The staff was great and it wasnt too expensive.

"Small room with a mold smell over priced."
According to the hotel, it opened in 2010, so why the mold smell so quick? Hotel located in a traditional market area so surrounding just so so. The rooms are small but comfortable. No restaurant on site but several convenience stores close to hotel. For it's location, the hotel rooms are over priced especially since a restaurant is not available and […] located on a narrow hard to find street. Read more
"Simply a good choice in Hong Kong."
If you wish to have a reasonably priced, centrally located hotel but do not care about 5 star features like pools and big lobby's etc. then this is a great choice. Clean, modern, efficient but small, good service. A, great location in Central Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong Hotel - best location"
This hotel was greatly priced and the location was superb!! It was a lucky find. The hotel looks brand new and the service was very professional. We asked for an additional bed and they came in promptly and set it up beautifully.
"Butterfly on Wellington - a great stay"
Very easy transit from the airport -- short walk from the Central / Hong Kong stops. The staff was welcoming, friendly and well prepared on arrival. The room was nicely appointed, cozy and comfortable. The only drawback is that the odor in the hall outside the room was a bit undesireable and the carpet in the room could use revamping -- otherwise, a […] great place to stay and I plan to return. "Great Location"
Excellent location for new boutique hotel in Central HK right near Central escalator and surrounded by plenty of dining, from trendy bars and restaurants just up the hill to noodle shops and night markets right around the corner. Free internet was a great feature since most hotels don't offer this. The only problem we had was that the key card access […] failed to work in the morning and we needed hotel staff to unlock our room the rest of the day when we went out until check out. This was due to a "low battery" on the door unlock pad that didn't have enough charge to read the keycard. A bit aggravating and inconvenient, but doesn't diminish the hotel. Read more
"decor"
Surprised the carpet in the room was badly chosen: looks dirty with its dirty dark mustard color. Room done in a 3 star mainland chinese style: low quality wood and paint job, So room looks "old" even though hotel is still new. Location is unbeatable. It is a place just to sleep. Not comfortable to spend time in the room.
"Heart of Hong Kong"
The Butterfly was great and located in the heart of central Hong Kong right next to the elevated walkway. It made it easy to access the waterfront piers, busses and find your way back to the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The view of central Hong Kong was wonderful from the 26th floor, but you'll probably want to spend your time out in […] the city! Read more
"Nice affordable hotel in Hong Kong"
Great location. Not a 5 star hotel but still nice and close to everything. Great price for Hong Kong.
"Picked on a whim; got EXTREMELY lucky. Loved it!"
Global-traveler that has stayed in a range of quality hotels for business and pleasure, and highly recommend Butterfly to the 20 and 30-something holiday/business crowd. At check-in, I we were pleasantly surprised by the serene, clean and almost Manhattan-like boutique hotel feel after hauling luggage from Hong Kong station through the bustling streets, […] hills, pedestrians, cars and steps. We later discovered that you can actually take Midlands escalator directly from the elevated walkways around IFC 1 and directly to the Airport Express train, while only walking 1/2 block in actual Hong Kong, which made the hotel PERFECT in terms of location, given its proximity to nightlife, dining, shopping, Midlands, Peak Tram, the Zoo, piers/ferry (to Kowloon side)... We had stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Beijing, which was ok, and followed by the Le Royal Meriden in Shanghai, which fabulous. But Butterfly in Hong Kong was the most memorable, quite possibly because it was hard to separate the hotel experience from the overall Hong Kong experience. The rooms were small, but given the property values in Hong Kong, it was akin to a Manhattan boutique hotel - quite frankly, for the price and given Hong Kong's pricey real estate context, the room size was not an irritant, but rather kind of charming, such as a Paris boutique hotel too. The ONLY thing about the room that was weird was the bathroom, which had two sliding semi-frosted glass doors coming together to form a corner between a bedroom wall and the short entrance area by the door, which meant that if you have to be one with nature, and you are sharing the room, your roommie can hear, and perhaps even see more than the your knees and calves. My girlfriend's solution - throw on the sink and let it run while I watched TV. They have a nice little lounge area by the front desk with DIY coffee where you can grab the paper and hop on an Apple internet terminal if you don't have a laptop to take advantage of the fast internet (wi Read more
"Convenient location in Central Dist"
Hotel is walking distance to everything in Central, great location. Rooms and hotel were small, but expected from description. This hotel is fairly new so 50% of taxi drivers didn't know it by name. so make sure you know address.

"Great hotel, great location"
The room and amenities were wonderful. Spacious and modern. Staff quite friendly. Location could not be beat. It's a noisy area but none of it reached the room and I was on the 5th floor. I will definitely be staying here again.
"Amazing hotel"
Great hotel, great location in central hong kong. Close to tram to/from airport. Great eateriers nearby, and great night life about 2 blocks away. Perfect hotel to be in center of everything and hotel staff amazing helpful. Bathrooms were amazing and brand new, with tile floor, rain like shower. Nice tv, and helpful staff. "Butterfly on Wellington, close to central escalato"
The hotel was very close to Central escalator and only ten minutes walk from the Airport express station (IFC Mall)
"clean,nice ,kind"
good!,
Staff very helpful. This is a stand-out location in Central.
"Helpful staff, great location but small rooms"
Great hotel with helpful staff. Only downside is the rooms are very small.
"Steps from Soho in the midst of local markets"
Overall the location is super cool... close to Queens Road, the MTR and SOHO. It's in the middle of the local vegetable, flower and meat markets so you can get a really local feel right in the middle of the glamour and business district of Central. The staff was nice. The hotel was clean. My only complaint was that the carpet was a little old; the room […] felt damp, and I think someone must have had a durian fruit in the vicinity at some point because it had an unpleasant odor. It seemed to only be on the 21st floor though. The other floors didn't have this smell when the elevators opened. Read more
