""Short stay in Tromso""
An affordable hotel with a great breakfast. Simple rooms with maybe a little annoying sliding door to the toilet. 20 minute walk to the center, but close to Coop.I had chosen the hotel in order to see the Northern Lights. You just walk about 50 yards from the hotel to the nearby beach for a good spot, or 15 minutes to Telegrafbukta beach for a darker […] vantage point. Teas and coffees are available at all times and until midnight you can use the microwave and toaster. The many different receptionists were always pleasant and helpful.

Oppholdet gikk greit, hyggelig betjening. Rommet dårlig utstyrt med nødvendig utstyr. Ingen hårføner, strykjern/brett, kun en rull toalettpappir, simpel såpe/shampo, ingen hårbalsam, mangler penn/skrivesaker, Tv minner om klenodium.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Helt greit.

""Litt utenfor sentrum, men nært allikevel""
Takk for oppholdet :-)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel i Tromsø"
Hotellet er ok! Ligger ca. 5-6 km uden for centrum.

"Kort vistelse i Tromsö"
Urinlukt i gangen i 2 etasje. Frokost: […] Anbefales IKKE,.

Very happy with our stay here. Beautiful location near the water with views to the mountains. Good breakfast and free tea and coffee all day was a welcome extra. Pleasant dining, lobby and outdoor deck area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room clean and spacious, comfy bed. Couldn't ask for any more from a budget hotel.
"An excellent location"

A very nice cosy hotel. Spacey room, good bathroom, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. The location at the southern tip of Tromsø eiland offers you panoramic view over the Bay and surrounding mountains, attractive walking along the shore, and in a 4 minutes walk the cosiest pick nick place of Tromsø! On sunny weekends the place to be. A good bus connection makes Tromso centre close.
"Simple hotel. Good option if you're short on budget."

There's not much to say. Simple hotel, comfortable and with all you may need, with nothing accessory. It's a great option if you're short on budget: a double room with breakfast included costs 880NOK (around 110€), which is a great price for Norwegian prices. The hotel is a little far away from the city centre, in the south of the island, so you will need a car to get there (or use public buses running into here). On the other side, all the coast has a walking path where you can hike and enjoy great views (also of the sunset...). There's WIFI network which works fine and a simple breakfast on the average of the other Norwegian hotels we visited.

After just over a week in hostels in Oslo and Bergen it was lovely to get to the Sydspissen Hotel in Tromso. All the staff on the reception were very helpful and provided me with any information I needed to know. The room was basic but clean and large, with a decent bathroom and shower. There was a television with a good mix of channels that showed programmes in English and Norwegian. I had a room with ocean views that looked out onto the beach and was just spectacular. You can also see the beach and mountains from the dining room, so breakfasting with such incredible scenery was lovely. The breakfast itself was typically Norwegian and had a good range of different options. I would recommend getting there early for a wider selection. The dining room was also open until 11pm every night, and there was a terrace, which was good for getting late night cups of tea and checking to see the lights. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for all the time I was there in my stay to see the Northern Lights but I reckon the beach round the back of the hotel would have been the perfect place to see them. Location wise the hotel is great. It is a couple minutes walk from a supermarket to buy food for evening meals. Also it is very easy to get to the airport and into the centre of town. As it was still very snowy and icy in March I got a four day bus pass, but would have been a pleasant work into town in warmer weather. I had a great experience and it was definitely a highlight of my first solo holiday! I would definitely recommend the Sydspissen to visitors to Tromso, and am definitely planning on returning myself!
"Value and location"

Stayed four nights in triple room - we had booked a twin room but were lucky enough to be put in a room on the end of a corridor with windows looking across the water. While this hotel does in some respects resemble a hostel it has a lot going for it, particularly the location. It is at the southern point (hence the name) of the island on which Tromso city centre is located, with views out across the fjord to snow covered mountains. The shore in front of the hotel is a good place to view the northern lights - the area is dark enough to be able to appreciate them - and there are lovely walks along the waterfront. The area is also nice and quiet and night. The room itself was not huge but was adequate and clean and had a decent amount of cupboard space for hanging damp winter clothing to dry. The bathroom was a reasonable size and the shower was great (some maintenance in the bathroom was needed, the hand basin plug had broken and was missing and the cistern took forever to refill). The reception is manned 24 hours and all the staff we met were extremely obliging and helpful. When we inquired about laundries in the city they told us there weren't any but they let us use a spare washing machine in the hotel and provided airing racks for us to dry our washing, all at no charge. Breakfast is included in the tariff and there is a good choice of bread, cereals, fruit, cold meats tea/coffee/juice etc. In an expensive area of an expensive country, the hotel is very good value. In warmer weather it would be possible to walk to the city centre but in winter that is impractical as ice and lack of footpaths in some places would make it an unpleasant trudge, even with cleats on your boots. However, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel and regular services at most hours. Overall, this is not a luxury hotel but location and good service make it a very attractive option.
"Great Value (For Norway)"
04/11/14 Rachel A London, United Kingdom
We stayed here as part of a trip around Northern Norway, we weren't expecting much, but we were so wrong. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the communal food area gave us the opportunity to mingle with other travellers and share northern lights stories. Staff were friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay The breakfast buffet was great and we would highly recommend this hotel
"Ideal spot if northern lights appear"
04/10/14 Snarlup Brighton & Hove
We chose this hotel because it had a beach and was away from the lights of Tromso, when we arrived it was well kept, tidy, efficient and clean. The room was fine with 3 single beds, a shower room, fridge and TV. There was enough space to store clothes etc. and we had a view of the bay, which was ideal at night if the Northern lights appeared. The restaurant was open all day till 11pm where you could get free tea and coffee, they also had a toaster & microwave which came in handy for a couple of ready meals and plates etc. could be used. The breakfast was included in our trip and consisted of cereals, fruit juices, bread, rolls, meats, jams but no hot food to speak of. We went to the tourist office when we first arrived to find out places of interest and then opposite to the bus office to buy a 4 day pass (1800 kroner = £18) well worth the money as it also meant we could use the bus to get back to the airport on our return home, best bit of advice i can give. Tromso is nice, though there tends to be a lot more concrete buildings going up in town which is a shame, but the polar museum & northern lights museum are worth a look. all in all the trip was good just a shame those dam northern lights never appeared...!
"Great choice for Tromso"
04/07/14 driver x Adelaide, Australia
We spent a few nights in the Sydspissen Hotel and were very pleased with our stay. To be brutally frank accommodation in northern Norway is brutally expensive. For that matter so is everything else. I chose the Sydspissen based on budget constraints, it was the cheapest we could find! No complaints however, the staff were very helpful, the breakfast expansive and tasty. The location is a little out of town, but only a little, and a regular bus stops maybe 100metres away, more or less every half hour. Honestly, from what I saw of Tromso centre, there really isn't any reason to stay in the middle of all the action, such as it is. Five minutes out of town is fine. Of course if it's nice weather you can make it a pleasant stroll as there are some walking trails, and ski trails, nearby that will take you all over the city. Plus as an added bonus you are situated on the waterfront, we had a pleasant morning watching the snow drift in over the water while savouring breakfast, before venturing out to make snowmen. (Snow virgins you see.) I'd stay again the fact it's cheap is just a bonus.
"beautiful location, nice stay"

We had a great 5 day stay in this hotel. It is true it is not in the city centre, but the buses are good and reliable (bus stop is at a two-minute walking, buses passes very 20 minutes until midnight and it is a 15 min ride to city center). The location of the hotel, beside the lake, is incredible. Walking by the side of the beach was mavellous. Plus, the hotel has free coffe and tea for guests, and though the do not serve lunch or dinner, we could use the dinning room for having sandwiches and even ordering pizzas. there is a huge supermarket really close where to buy things to eat.
"Home from home"

This hotel is situated just outside of the town. It is clean and comfortable with lovely warm rooms and an excellent breakfast buffet included in the price. The dining room is open throughout the day for tea and coffee and to warm up food purchased in the town. The staff are friendly and helpful no matter the time of day. Despite heavy rain and cloud during the time we stayed here, we saw the aurora from the grounds of the hotel. It was a home away fro home.
