""Short stay in Tromso""
An affordable hotel with a great breakfast. Simple rooms with maybe a little annoying sliding door to the toilet. 20 minute walk to the center, but close to Coop.I had chosen the hotel in order to see the Northern Lights. You just walk about 50 yards from the hotel to the nearby beach for a good spot, or 15 minutes to Telegrafbukta beach for a darker […] vantage point. Teas and coffees are available at all times and until midnight you can use the microwave and toaster. The many different receptionists were always pleasant and helpful.

Oppholdet gikk greit, hyggelig betjening. Rommet dårlig utstyrt med nødvendig utstyr. Ingen hårføner, strykjern/brett, kun en rull toalettpappir, simpel såpe/shampo, ingen hårbalsam, mangler penn/skrivesaker, Tv minner om klenodium.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Helt greit.

""Litt utenfor sentrum, men nært allikevel""

"I've been here twice and love it!"

I like that it is out of town because it makes photographing the aurora borealis easier because they aren't polluted with city lights. The hotel is owned my the military so I know my money is going to a good cause. They were on leave the last time I was there so it got a bit noisy but the hotel staff told them to quite down or go outside lol. The food is good and the rooms are comfy. You can share rooms and do the hostel kinda thing but I always book my own room and restroom. View is great and it's right on a walking path. I walked down onto the beach area to take photos away from the hotel lights. It's probably a 10 minute drive from down town and you can take the bus (#34 every half hour Monday-Saturday.). Do note that there is no bus service, anywhere, on Sundays. Most shops are closed too. Norway makes an effort to give it's citizens time off which is an excellent thing in my opinion. Take Sundays and go hiking. I think the cable car is open Sundays but don't hold me to that. You can hike that mountain which extends past the point the cable car stops at. I believe some of the museums are open Sundays too. If nothing else stay up all night, Saturday, watching the northern lights and sleep all day Sunday lol. Northern Light tours run on Sundays and most the time you don't get back until 3am. I strongly suggest this hotel to people that want to be out of the city. Most tours pickup at the Radisson Blu so I'd stay there if you want to be in the city. Oh wifi is free at the Sydspissen Hotel.

This hotel is out of town but easily accessible by Bus (34). It doesn't do evening food but has good continental breakfast. It's selling point is its location on the fjord. We had beautiful walks, beautiful views of Snowy Mountains, a fabulous fjord and top it all we had the Northern Lights. Staff were very helpful throughout our stay.
"A quiet corner"

Booked Sydspissen Hotel for its quiet location, a bit of distance from town. But local bus is easy enough, just have to pay attention to their frequency. The back of the hotel has stunning scenery. We were so so lucky that it suddenly snowed the night we were there, it was supposed to snow one month later. And the green mountain suddenly covered with snow. It was so breathtakingly beautiful. You can try your luck staying at the cafeteria to wait for the northern light, as it's facing the sea with minimum light pollution. But the cafeteria close at 11pm. you can still stay outside of the cafeteria (there're a few tables and chairs) and just have to go around to re-enter the hotel from the front. Only that it gets really cold staying out there with no hot drinks... Breakfast is simple. Coffee and tea is free flow till 11pm. There's a COOP supermarket just 5 min walk away. Hotel staffs could use some smiles but they are helpful and nice enough. I think Norwegians don't really like to smile but they always help when you needed it.
"Quiet and Great Breakfast!"

Sydspissen is outside of the main part of Tromso, but easily accessed by the local bus line (bus route 34, I believe) if you don't have a rental car. Being near the end of the island where Tromso is located keeps this hotel quiet and restful, and also has beautiful views of the water and mountains! Breakfast is classic Norwegian (yogurt, soft-boiled or hard-boiled eggs, and lots of open-faced sandwich fixings, as well as some cererals). Their whole-grain carrot bread is just divine - The staff at the desk are very friendly and helpful for suggestions and advice. Our room was large, and while it's not a fancy upscale hotel, it is very comfortable, and is more affordable than many other options. Consider these two driving tours to get an excellent overview of the region around Tromso - the spectacular Lyngen Alps as well as the fjords: http://www.visitnorway.com/us/where-to-go-us/northern-norway/tromso/what-to-do/tour-suggestions-in-tromso/ It's worth renting a car to do these trips!
"Norwegian army hotel"

This budget hotel is on the southern tip of Tromso island and is owned by the Norwegian army whose members/families get priority booking. Its surrounding is somehow wild but its breakfast room has a stunning view of the fjord and mountains. There is a bus stop nearby and a COOP supermarket within 5 minutes walk. Staff is polite, helpful and speak good english. Rooms are clean but basic with no satellite channels. Beware the high cost of living in Norway the most expensive country I have ever vacationed !!
"Comfy hotel with gorgeous views."

Very happy with our stay here. Beautiful location near the water with views to the mountains. Good breakfast and free tea and coffee all day was a welcome extra. Pleasant dining, lobby and outdoor deck area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room clean and spacious, comfy bed. Couldn't ask for any more from a budget hotel.
"An excellent location"

A very nice cosy hotel. Spacey room, good bathroom, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. The location at the southern tip of Tromsø eiland offers you panoramic view over the Bay and surrounding mountains, attractive walking along the shore, and in a 4 minutes walk the cosiest pick nick place of Tromsø! On sunny weekends the place to be. A good bus connection makes Tromso centre close.
"Simple hotel. Good option if you're short on budget."
06/20/14 asp1234 Spain
There's not much to say. Simple hotel, comfortable and with all you may need, with nothing accessory. It's a great option if you're short on budget: a double room with breakfast included costs 880NOK (around 110€), which is a great price for Norwegian prices. The hotel is a little far away from the city centre, in the south of the island, so you will need a car to get there (or use public buses running into here). On the other side, all the coast has a walking path where you can hike and enjoy great views (also of the sunset...). There's WIFI network which works fine and a simple breakfast on the average of the other Norwegian hotels we visited.
"Welcoming and comfortable."

After just over a week in hostels in Oslo and Bergen it was lovely to get to the Sydspissen Hotel in Tromso. All the staff on the reception were very helpful and provided me with any information I needed to know. The room was basic but clean and large, with a decent bathroom and shower. There was a television with a good mix of channels that showed programmes in English and Norwegian. I had a room with ocean views that looked out onto the beach and was just spectacular. You can also see the beach and mountains from the dining room, so breakfasting with such incredible scenery was lovely. The breakfast itself was typically Norwegian and had a good range of different options. I would recommend getting there early for a wider selection. The dining room was also open until 11pm every night, and there was a terrace, which was good for getting late night cups of tea and checking to see the lights. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for all the time I was there in my stay to see the Northern Lights but I reckon the beach round the back of the hotel would have been the perfect place to see them. Location wise the hotel is great. It is a couple minutes walk from a supermarket to buy food for evening meals. Also it is very easy to get to the airport and into the centre of town. As it was still very snowy and icy in March I got a four day bus pass, but would have been a pleasant work into town in warmer weather. I had a great experience and it was definitely a highlight of my first solo holiday! I would definitely recommend the Sydspissen to visitors to Tromso, and am definitely planning on returning myself!
"Value and location"

Stayed four nights in triple room - we had booked a twin room but were lucky enough to be put in a room on the end of a corridor with windows looking across the water. While this hotel does in some respects resemble a hostel it has a lot going for it, particularly the location. It is at the southern point (hence the name) of the island on which Tromso city centre is located, with views out across the fjord to snow covered mountains. The shore in front of the hotel is a good place to view the northern lights - the area is dark enough to be able to appreciate them - and there are lovely walks along the waterfront. The area is also nice and quiet and night. The room itself was not huge but was adequate and clean and had a decent amount of cupboard space for hanging damp winter clothing to dry. The bathroom was a reasonable size and the shower was great (some maintenance in the bathroom was needed, the hand basin plug had broken and was missing and the cistern took forever to refill). The reception is manned 24 hours and all the staff we met were extremely obliging and helpful. When we inquired about laundries in the city they told us there weren't any but they let us use a spare washing machine in the hotel and provided airing racks for us to dry our washing, all at no charge. Breakfast is included in the tariff and there is a good choice of bread, cereals, fruit, cold meats tea/coffee/juice etc. In an expensive area of an expensive country, the hotel is very good value. In warmer weather it would be possible to walk to the city centre but in winter that is impractical as ice and lack of footpaths in some places would make it an unpleasant trudge, even with cleats on your boots. However, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel and regular services at most hours. Overall, this is not a luxury hotel but location and good service make it a very attractive option.
