"small understaffed hotel"
04/14/15 Fiona H
Rooms were nice, reception staff very helpful, but bar staff rarely available even at happy hour, price of a coffee was 3.60 AUD,at the bar expensive for Thailand, small pool area only about 9 sun beds, hotel on a loud busy road, stagnent water beside hotel causes stink by pool, midgies at night no spray or burners available so cannot sit out at night, tuk tuk or taxi needed to go anywhere as bus does not run freqently enough, too far out of the way not enough ammenities or staff available to support stay at this hotel
"Would not buy into this....."

We have just spent a week at Absolute Nakalay beach resort with our friends who are just completing a time-share agreement with the resort. First impression of the standard of the room was "impressive" but that's about where it ended. After a few days I had rapidly come to the view that I was not a great fan of this place. From what we gathered from other guests, many of the staff are facing loss of their jobs, and it shows. Service at the pool-side bar, when it was available, was apathetic to say the least. No-one asking if you would like another drink, no genuine friendly attitude in the service. I even had to re-arrange the poolside deck furniture, shift and erect a heavy umbrella and base over where we were sitting, even though some-one was standing watching me at the bar. Happy hour price was good so long as you wanted the same cocktail every day of the week. Meal menu also did not vary, with limited options. All in all, a potentially good place seemingly going downhill fast, at least that's how I saw it.
"Don't bother a waste of time and money"

Service ... the staff are so unhappy about being sacked and the Sea Pearl staff coming in to take their jobs that they do nothing, no umbrellas up around the pool, no one asking if they could get you a drink around the pool. Staff disappear into staff room and can't be found. Happy hour ..... same cocktail of the day every day.No access to anywhere with out transport, either bus or tuk tuk, cannot walk on the busy road, no path and no access to the beach. The Resturant ..... served a set meal deal for lunch and dinner, either 2 or 3 courses could not change or subsitute, very bland same every day.Room service ..... not available for breakfast you must go down and sit in the hot sun on table not wiped down to be served by people who don't want to there.
"Could Do Better"

The Nakalay is advertised as a Boutique Hotel; I personally think that its just a small hotel which is out of the way on a very busy noisy road. The beds are very hard however we were given an option after the 3rd night to have a comforter placed on top (which would have been awesome from night 1) which was so much better. There is NO atmosphere at this hotel, the bar is undermanned and very quiet, closes at 21.00 and there was no ice some days; also the bar staff were very lacking in personality. The reception staff were nice however only one could really speak English and understand. The included breakfast was limited and instant coffee served as the staff couldn't be bothered to switch on the coffee machine, unless you harassed them. The hotel is clean and the rooms very nice and the shuttle service to Patong, Kamata and Surin is a bonus however could be improved on as it is infrequent. The pool area is tiny and if you get more than 2 families with kids then all 10 sunbeds are gone. I think Absolut can do better.
"Very Relaxing Resort"

Stayed for 2 nights here after we decided to move from Patong to somewhere a little more quiet. Was recommended to us by the staff at the sister resort Absolute Sea Pearl. Spent all day relaxing by the pool and it was just what we needed peaceful and tranquil. Staff where attentive and the thai food by the pool was nice. Recommend.
"Modern, clean and peaceful"

Nakalay is a very quiet, modern and clean, small resort. Perfect for relaxing. The resort offers a shuttle service if you can organise yourself around this, otherwise the security guard is happy to flag down a tuk tuk on busy road. The restaurant/pool bar is very limited with their choices and we found them to have run out of products during the busy Xmas period. The beds were extremely hard, but when we mentioned to staff they placed underlays on top mattress, which helped. We were fortunate to stay in the penthouse which was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately we didn't get to use our rooftop spa or lap pool very often as we spent most of our time in Patong.
"Lovely, Quiet and spotlessly clean !"

Absolute have done a lovely job on this resort with beautifully appointed ultra modern decor and facilities. The full kitchen is a bonus as the restaurant has limited menu and hours and Patong is a 15 min shuttle bus trip away. The pool was clean and relaxing without being crowded. - There are however a couple of restaurant / bars on the way to Patong beach on the cliff overlooking the bay which are quite cheap, have very good food and amazing views of the sunset. The staff are very accommodating and friendly; the drivers in particular are very helpful, polite and respectful. "Ta" at the pool bar is a great asset to the company as are the housekeepers who do a fantastic job every day with probably little recognition - we always tip these unseen hardworking ladies. Will certainly return and maybe try Absolute Bangla Suites next time with it's roof top restaurant and pool !
"Absolutely not recommended"
Nakalay not ideal situated. Next to noisy road. Very hard bed. TV and safe did not work in apartment. Softer bed option was availible according to reception, only after we complained, as it was not offered to us during check in as well. Shutlle service fell well short of the demand and you cannot be guaranteed a seat on thea next pickup. We saw bunches of guests left behind at Twin Sands. 1 night stayed of the 7 booked.
"Peaceful, quite friendly staff member"

We stayed here for a week, wasn't happy with our room but the quickly changed us ASAP. It's quite and peaceful away from the town centre however there's a shuttle bus that takes you into town. Rooms are cleaned everyday, the have a good take out services as we'll if you need one. It's a good place/ location if you want a quiet area. Yes there's no beach but you are only a few minutes away from the beach. Definitely worth staying in cause most of the day you are out and about. If you want a perfect beach heard to simi land, it's a days trip a bus picks you from 6:30 then on a speed boat to different islands. Worth the trip, the food in the local town is good, there's a restaurant called number 6, the are cheap and cook excellent food for a good price. Don't go in the shopping mall the are too expensive.

Hotel in middle of nowhere, with inconvenient shuttle bus times and the tuk tuk mafia prices if you can't use the shuttle. No beach access at all as surrounding landowners have blocked it off. Restaurant choice of meals was 6 different paninis or 3 salads (not what I go to Thailand for) and last orders at 7:30pm. Breakfast choice was even more limited. Swimming pool very small and no hotel grounds to speak of. No outside restaurants within reasonable walking time and main road busy and dark at night. However, rooms are good, well equipped and clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.
