The largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand is Chiang Mai — about 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok amid high mountains. Chiang Mai is a modern city on an ancient trade route and attracts foreign visitors who come for the area's handcrafted goods, umbrellas, jewelry, and woodcarving.see all hotels in Chiang Mai

This was by far the best hotel we stayed at on our two week vacation. I wish we could have spent more time here! It's right in the heart of the old city, the room was beautiful and the service was great! Its a small hotel but what it lacks in size it makes up in service and comfort. The pool was great, drinks and the restaurant we wonderful and the […] staff was very accommodating and helpful with booking tours and getting taxis. "Nice hotel in a great neighborhood"
The De Lanna in Chiang Mai is conveniently located in old town and a very charming hotel. The location is a bit far of a walk from the Night Bazzar or weekend markets (30 minutes or so) however a 4-5 minute tuk tuk ride (at a price between 60-100 baht depending on negotiation). The old town is excellent for exploring during the day. 7-11 is right down […] the street for snacks and drinks. The room itself is very spacious with a nice concrete walk in shower. The first floor units have patios with lots of koi right underneath them which we admired from our 3rd floor unit. We wish we had been on the first floor after seeing this. The breakfast is okay; nothing extremely special but good tasting and a small variety. The staff is very accommodating and nice. When we checked out the receptionist ran out 2 blocks to the main road to fetch us a taxi. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming hotel in charming town"
We had a great stay here. It is right in the heart of the old city so very convenient to get around, even on foot. The staff was very friendly and the room was very cute. There aren't too many rooms so it felt very intimate and cozy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great. Close to everything, but still peaceful"
Staff was great. Good breakfast. nice pool and common area. Close to city activities, but not too close so quiet and peacefulGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent location. One can easily walk to center town. This hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms are good and the air conditioning worked well. The breakfest was particularly good. Good value for the money. I would stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Just stayed at the De Lanna for the second time in two years. Having stayed at 5 other hotels in Chiang Mai (some more expensive, some less), we have come to the conclusion that the De Lanna may be the best hotel in the city. It's a convenient walk to Tha Pae gate and even the night bazar (wear god shoes) to the east, and Nimmanhamaen to the west. The […] facilities are starting to show some wear, but overall the buildings are in good shape, and kept clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. Some comparatively minor gripes, based on our comparison to the other hotels we've stayed at: the internet is spotty, especially when lots of guests are using it. That seems to be equally true at the $300/night places, however. The water in the shower sometimes fluctuates radically in temperature - although not every time. Finally, although the breakfast buffet is otherwise excellent, the "Nespresso Gourmet" automatic coffee and espresso machine is absolutely disgusting. Some good coffee - especially here in the heart of Thai coffee growing country, would be really nice. Other than that, though, the hotel is great, and it's the only hotel in Chiang Mai that we've used (or would use) more than once. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The most fun in Thailand was thanks to DeLanna!"
We visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui during our Thailand vacation. I have to say that staying at the DeLanna was the best choice we made! The service their staff provided was PHENOMINAL! There was one particular person who truly made it magnificent, Mimi. She helped and advised us on the best places to visit, best tours to go with and even took […] us herself to many destinations. She understood we were looking for non-touristy/gimmicky places and wanted a true Chiang Mai experience- and she delivered! We actually stayed at a VERY expensive resort in Koh Samui and they couldn't even come close to the help and direction that De Lanna's in house tour service provided. I stayed at the De Lanna for two nights in May. It was easy to get a taxi to from the airport, the rooms were great with a nice porch and a Koi pond just outside my door. I sat on the porch and wrote in my journal for a couple hours during a rain storm. I was traveling alone, so it was important that I felt safe at my hotel, which I absolutely did. […] It was a great location near to many temples, restaurants and coffee shops. I was able to walk to the river and the night markets... it took about 20 to 30 minutes to get to the river, and that is an estimate because I stopped a lot. It was the perfect hotel for my solo getaway. I'd definitely stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I've enjoyed this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a wonderful 4 nights at this hotel! The atmosphere is quiet, personal, welcoming and relaxing--with no tour groups! The pool is not big (not great for laps), but it is inviting and refreshing. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the pool, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony where it was wonderfully warm, but not hot (February). The […] room was not ostentatious, but very comfortable with soft pillows available upon request. Breakfast was more than adequate with great coffee and a whole pot of tea just for me! We had two dinners in the small restaurant--very, very tasty and well presented. The only issue was the temperature of the shower water--as some others have noted. Our problem was that the temperature fluctuated between freezing and scalding with little warning. This didn't happen every time, so we assume it has to do with how many people are using water at the same time. Still, this was not a huge issue for us, and we will surely return to this hotel the next time we are in Chiang Mai! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"De Lanna Hotel"
I had a bad experience with the hotel. Even though hotels.com gives it a 4-star rating, it was no where near it. We had lot of problems dealing with mosquitoes on the day one. We were given a change of room for the next day but definitely it doesn't live up to the 4-star rating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly and convenient but..."
The staff members were all friendly and helpful, which was a plus. While the rooms were clean, they had a step up to get to the main part of the room and a step down to get onto the deck, both of which were tricky when it was dark or you weren't focused. Other than on the deck, there were no chairs except floor-style reclining pillows, making it all […] bit of a challenge for us older travelers. Also, the breakfast buffet could use some improvement although the evening meals were delicious. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, oasis in a city"
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights during our 2 week trip to Thailand and loved this hotel. It's a perfect little oasis in the middle of the old city with a great restaurant and pool area. Room was perfect, we were on the top floor. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the water pressure in our shower, the water kept getting either really […] hot or really cold. Tiny detail, but we wouldn't expect anything less any where else. Would definitely return to this hotel and would highly recommend! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good apart from unlucky room allocation"
We wanted a hotel for a couple of nights at the start of our stay to relax and recover from jet lag. We chose De Lanna because of the pool, reports of comfortable beds and the balconies "with pool or garden views". The pool was ok and the beds were comfortable but our balcony had a view of the backs of other rooms - not the relaxing space we had imagined […] spending time reading and enjoying a sunset evening beer! That was a let-down for us but everything else about the hotel was fine. For the room we were allocated it wasn't worth the money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The best part about the hotel was its location. It's in amongst the "old city" (within the old moat) of Chiang Mai. The staff was pleasant. The way the rooms were set-back from the street was smart. Our room itself was not very well lit. Nonetheless, it had all of the necessary amenities. It was comfortable overall. The pool is not very inviting. […] But the lounges are comfortable. The fish that lay under the bridge to each room was a quirky touch. The courtyard looks spectacular at night. The breakfast buffet had a terrific selection of fresh fruit, starches, meat, soup, cereal, noodle/rice dishes and beverages that varied a bit each morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bridge over stream with fish to get to the room"
Great hotel and good location. To get to our room on the ground floor we had to step over a small bridge above the stream with big red and silver fish, which was so cool. The room was big, clean and the AC well placed (not blowing above the bed). We had a good breakfast in the hotel courtyard under the plumeria blooming trees. Very nice pool, which […] unfortunately we did not have time to enjoy, because we stayed only two nights. Wished to stay more in this charming and hotel. They do not seem to get it right with the showers in the hotels in Thailand. Everywhere we stayed, and this was no exception, the shower curtain and the shower base do not work together from preventing the water to go in the rest of the washroom floor. Also the shower drainage does not work properly. The washroom looks so nice and when I saw it, I was sure this was a place where they got is right with the shower and I was a bit disappointed. Small comfortable hotel, close to cafe, temples, Tuk Tuk and taxi always available, about 10 min to the Night Bazaar. Don't expect a big selection for breakfast, but it is o.k. Reception staff very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Sublime setting, luxuriously decorated room with Northern fabric designs. Luxurious soft furnishings giving maximum comfort. Every tourist need was met. Room clean and stylish and bed very comfortable. Staff were professional, polite and very efficient. I would highly recommend this hotel. "Friendly, hotel with all amenities."
The De Laana hotel is inside the old city conveniently situated for a number of restaurants serving Western and Thai food in nearby Ratchadamnoen Road where the Sunday night market is held. The rooms in the hotel which are a reasonable size, comfortable and clean are arranged around the pool area with a well tended garden and a small moat which is stocked […] with attractively coloured fish. Breakfast is served near the pool area and there is an extensive menu to suit all tastes, Western and Eastern food. The staff are extremely helpful, on the day we departed we had to leave the hotel at 05.00 a.m. and we were presented with a packed breakfast to take with us, on our arrival we were given a map showing the location of the hotel to assist Tuk Tuk drivers. "A great 4 star stay"
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. FRONT DESK: there was a slight language barrier with a few of the front desk staff so it made some things difficult. Check-in/out was easy. Internet was really good in the lobby and by the pool, but the signal was a little weak in our room (our room was at the far corner of of the hotel so […] this could be why). The girl at the tour desk was really helpful and helped us plan a last minute day trip. Don't book a taxi from the hotel...they charged us twice as much to get to the airport as what it cost when we found a metered taxi. ROOM: I had mixed feelings on the room when we first arrived, but overall it was really good. It is modern mixed with Thai influence. The beds were a little hard, but not as bad as most in Asia. The room and bathroom were large and clean. There is a stand-up shower only, and it didn't drain very well so if 2 people take a shower in a row water ends up all over the floor. AC worked really well. There was complimentary bottled water and toiletries. POOL: was really nice and there were lots of chairs surrounding it. The back wall of the pool could have used a good scrub RESTAURANT: breakfast was ok...there were lots of Thai and Western options. There was aslo a Nespresso coffee/espresso machine. LOCATION: was perfect! It was within walking distance to lots of temples and the main gates. Night market was also nearby. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is clean, comfortable and very well situated. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The only reservation is with the "modern" concrete bathroom which is small and not well-finished. The hotel has great amenities, very friendly and helpful staff and very convenient location in the old city. "Great value in Chiang Mai"
Very clean, comfortable hotel within the Old City of Chiang Mai. Easy access to sights on westside of city, but points outside of the Old City (Night Market, Ping River restaurants/bars) probably require a quick tuk-tuk ride. "Excellent city centre hotel"
Stayed for 2 nights at the De Lanna in a superior room on the 3rd floor. Room was very spacious, clean and quiet. I didn't have any issues with the water not being boiling as others have said. The pool is a good size for a city hotel and the area around it peaceful. Only had the inclusive breakfast which was excellent with a wide choice. Staff were […] good and helpful though some had better Enlish skills than others. Was a bit annoyed with myself for not booking a longer stay as this place became fully booked and we had to move out of town earlier than we would have liked. The location is perfect - inside the old city walls, but away from the crazy markets etc. Overall, a great place for the price and I am going back there again in a week after heading further north. "In the heart of old Chiang Mai"
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 3 week trip around Thailand. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at De Lanna and would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a smaller, boutique style hotel that is quiet and relaxing but still in the old city and close to tourist sites (temples). The room was clean, with a king-sized bed and airconditioning […] but the bathroom in our room was a little small. Great rainfall shower and clean though. We also had a balcony to sit on in the morning and evenings. The buffet breakfast served in the restaurant had lots of variety and you could enjoy it inside or outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We decided to book a cooking class and Elephant Camp tour through the hotel. Mimi, the onsite agent, was very helpful and efficient at booking both tours and we were highly satisfied with both. We also enjoyed lounging poolside each day to cool down from the hot sun. Drinks and food were available again for lunch and during the afternoon (poolside) from the restaurant. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
