The suite I was staying in needed an upgrade on the phone line. The calls were not going directly to my room, and it was difficult to talk over the phone line. When I would ask to speak to management, I would always get the run-around. i.e. "the manager was busy"..." he/she stepped out"...or "wasn't in for the day". All in all, I never got to see anyone […] in a position of authority in the time I was there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
""Hotel is Dated""
"We stayed at this hotel which is considered the best hotel in Boca Chica. We spent over 170 us dollars to stay, and although it included beverages and food , we were disappointed in the upkeep of the hotel. The furniture was in very poor condition, and quite soiled and scratched. The bathroom was ample size and nice. The bed was a little stiff. It […] seems the rooms could use a fresh coat o f paint and new furniture. The buffet was decent, but not great. Deserts were minimal and not tasty. The staff was friendly, and there were many activities for kids. It still is probably the best choice for hotels in Boca Chica, but thats not saying much. I would rather go to another destination such as Juan Dolio, or La Romana and stay in a much nicer hotel or resort for the same or less money. I believe you pay too much of a premium for the all inclusive aspect." Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I booked a room with a king size bed but got 2 queen's. I checked in after 6 pm and though it was to late to have it changed that night but the customer service girl that works the night had me in a room 4 floors up with a better view and a king size bed in less than 15 min. She also helped me with getting my laundry picked up, reservation's , and directions […] to 3 of the many restaurants. She would greet me with a charming personality asking if there was any thing I needed. She made the whole experience special. THANK YOU! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Booked suite and received a regular room that was called a suite because its in the same building (Presidential Suites) was not worth the stay at all. Checked in, late afternoon and the room wasn't completed by housekeeping. Bed not made, wall lamp hanging off and the security safe needed new batteries. When i called the front desk, i was informed a […] staff member will come to the room. We waited 85 minutes and then called again, same thing repeated after 40 min took the walk to the front desk, (its a long one from the Presidential Suites). The front desk staff told us housekeeping is waiting for us at our room. We went back, no one there, we gave up after I called and asked for a Manager and was informed the Manager is not available. The next morning tried again, security came and informed me the safe is no good they would have to change it (I would have to wait) The cleaning problem would have to taken care of Housekeeping and the wall lamp by the engineers but we would have to be in the room for this to all happen. We laughed and went back to the front desk and asked for a manager. Again i was informed a manager is not available. I went back to the room, placed a DND sign on the door and left. I DONT recommend this place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Please Do Not Stay Here"
01/27/15 Jess_and_Tysin Edmonton, Canada
Like you, I did my research on this hotel and read the reviews. I saw some saying it was terrible, and others saying to ignore the negative reviews. As a travel agent AND an unfortunate guest of this hotel, I urge you to stay elsewhere. And this applies to the Garden side, the Beach side, and even the Suites... The Be Live Hamaca is definitely not a resort you want to spend time at. The service is poor, the facility is run down and dirty, the food is terrible, and EVERY other traveler we talked to was having the same experience. Our first room had NO sink, cracks all over the walls and ceiling, no available safe, two twin beds instead of the king we had booked, and was splattered with black mold. After hours of complaining, no manager to be seen, and being shown two additional rooms (including one on the Beach side, which is supposed to be nicer buy wasn't at all), we finally settled on one room on the Garden side. Some of the issues with the other rooms we were shown, as well as complaints from other travelers at this resort, included: - Rooms currently under renovations, not in livable conditions - Twin beds instead of king, or vice versa - not as requested - Toilets not flushing - Missing light bulbs, not functioning lights - Missing lamp shades - Missing window coverings - Broken air conditioning - Broken fridges - Bugs and cockroaches (alive or dead) in rooms - No hot water in some rooms - Windows that won't close or lock - Patio doors that won't lock - Joining doors to suites that don't lock - No locks available for rent for the safes - Holes in bed sheets, holes in towels - Lack of fitted sheets (a regular sheet was thrown over the mattress to sleep on) - One guest had their room broken into and luggage stolen Morning came, and after getting some sleep we felt optimistic about the rest of our vacation. Until we got to the buffet. This was the poorest excuse for food that I have encountered, even after spending a month in Thailand. Meats were under cooked, fruit was sitting in trays of swampy water, breads were stale, and selection was very limited. On top of that, there was not nearly enough seating, and when we did find a seat we then had to track down our own cutlery and coffee cups. We only managed to find coffee cups 25% of the time. We also witnessed Culligan water bottles being filled up at a bar tap, then brought out to fill up the drinking water for tourists. That was it. We'd had it. Back to reception to check out and demand our money back. Again, no manager to be seen. Nobody that could help us. We waited through a steady stream of receptionists, customer service reps, kitchen staff, but NO manager! More hours wasted arguing about the conditions we were living in. Finally one of the employees claimed to have spoken to a manager, and said he could put us up in a Presidential Suite, and offer us free wifi, 30 minutes spa credit, and reservations to the specialty restaurants so we could avoid the buffet. Skeptical, but again willing to try to make this work, we viewed the suite. I will say, in comparison to the other rooms, it was a step up. However, it still had rust stains in the jacuzzi tub (which didn't work anyway), cracks in the walls, missing lampshades, broken towel racks, a dirty shower head, dead bugs smeared on the walls, a hot fridge, mildew-scented pillows, and dirty drinking glasses. But again, we sucked it up and agreed to stay. We managed four days before we were again unhappy and bored. The "24 hour" snack bar closed at 11pm. "24 hour" drinks stopped at 2am. The specialty restaurants could not be booked unless you got in line at 6:30am, and even then you'd likely be eating at 8 or 9pm. Our spa hours and free wifi were never followed up on, and when we asked about these we were told someone would be able to help us "tomorrow". Entertainment was repetitive, and activities were limited. Snorkeling and kayaking provided by the resort weren't worth the time, as the beach area is roughly 40 paces wide and there is no coral or sea life to explore. We went on the few paid excursions, but once they were done there was nothing left to do. And in order to lounge by the pool or beach, we had to be there by 6:30am to get a chair or we were out of luck. It was not safe to leave the resort, which is not entirely uncommon. But the problem with Be Live is that the Garden side and the Beach side are separated by a public road. This meant that every time we crossed the road, we were harassed to buy cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and basically anything else we could want. The night that we opened a cupboard to release two cockroaches into our room, we were done. Defeated. It had been a horrible experience, and we wanted to end this vacation that had turned into a nightmare. We booked a flight for the next morning, packed our bags, and left. My suggestion would be this: If you like nice all-inclusives on perfect beaches, stay in Punta Cana and maybe make a day-visit to Santo Domingo. If you like adventure and culture, DR may not be for you at all. But either way, do not stay at the Be Live in Santo Domingo (Boca Chica).
"More than what you pay for"
01/09/15 vbjosh New London, Connecticut
We recently stayed at the Be Live Hamaca in Boca Chica and had an amazing experience. When thinking about the cost of our stay, we certainly feel that we got more than what we paid for. This place does have some asthetic flaws and the amenities aren't their strong suit, but we found the property to be more than suitable for our group of 16 for our week long stay. Their best asset is the people who work there, more specifically those that run their programming. This group of individuals were very engaging and unbelievably nice and polite to everyone in our group. At the end of the trip, we all reflected in how these people really shaped a great vacation for us. If you are looking for a high end getaway, you will need to pay more and head to another location in the DR. If you are looking for a fun, exciting, safe getaway at a decent facility with a great staff, our experience tells me that it would be very hard to find a better place at such an affordable price. We would certainly go back to this property again.
"Rethink this !!!!! Terrible"
11/22/14 Italmango Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Dear Marisol"Mary" Ortiz, (VacationStoreMiami), I'm witting to you about the horrendous! experience at the Hamaca Be Live in Boca Chica. First of all I was promised a" Deluxe Ocean View Room" ! NOT the case!, I received a pool view room, also the room had many broken features in it like the light fixture and the Jacuzzi tub and decorative lighting throw under the bed! and dirty towels left in the bathroom from previous guest before us. I was charged extra for that room! I expect a refund!!!! I was told an Ocean View room, and was given choices in rates that got jacked -up to $688.00 from originally the $464.00 for the stay. The service was terrible, on first night I complained about this and was told a phone call and a adjust would be made! That never happened! I even inquired the next day to speak to someone like the manager and was told to come back at 12 or 12:30 and it was 12:40 in the afternoon already! A gentlemen by the name of Henry said he would forward the information and take care of the dirty towels in room and have our room changed and make reservation for the restaurant that evening. Well the dirty towel never came out were left in room til after I called to front desk , waited 35 min's to 40 for staff to come and finally myself threw them out in the hallway of our room door. Terrible service!, on top of "Bad food!" to pay for "ALL INCLUSIVE" and have to ask for reservations to these inadequate restaurants, with very poor staff, always talking and never really being of service to us and the same food almost prepared in most venues very very poor! The first night there we ate it was very bad , we had to go out to another restaurant off premiums to eat! As a matter of fact, we were told to go to there restaurant which wasn't part of the "package" that it would be better! Really after paying for the ALL INCLUSIVE ! GIVE ME A BREAK !!! Servers handing me a plastic spoon instead of a metal in the dining room! and ignoring us in breakfast area in the mornings of the " La Cotica" buffet restaurant, never having most tables not set or coffee cups on tables when we came in or even asking us if we cared for coffee or my friend wanted hot chocolate and was told to go over and make it himself! And we came different times each of the days there always the same service poor!!! Flies were everywhere! I mean get a bug light and cut some of them down! Yes its a open sort of closed restaurant but you can control that better! The Italian restaurant was terrible! we order appetizers and entrees and were delivered all at the same time , instead of courses , the waiter again to busy talking to the hostess and I was given white wine instead of red that I ordered and the food gross!! Yuk!!! calamari was like a rubber beach ball! I actually got sick with diarrhea .Pretty much the same with the Mexican and Brazilian! thank god two nights I paid to go out to a local restaurant where the food was good! Also not having the right amount of guest towels in room two guest, at least two hand towels and bath towels and a mat! I always had to call for the right amount, and even one time after getting the right amount, someone came to the room when we were gone and took back the bath towels!!! I guess the towel "police there!" we had to use the beach towel that night! A very nice Woman from Guest Services spoke to me on my last day and offered apologies and a bottle of wine and a 20 min massage on the beach. Nice gesture but when me and my friend went to the beach the woman there weren't informed about this, after waiting on beach for around two hours more at four we got a massage, which I still paid $70.00 more for after being told that the back massage was the 20 min's from the hotel so after some Spanish words with my friend $ 70 dollars plus a tip I gave of $ 30 another hundred for the two massages, I have to say they were very good! best part of the Hotel experience and the ladies were very sweet! And gave a great massage! The night club rude service ! told to go over the other side like dogs just to get a water and a coke ! Really? nice service of the unlimited beverages. A lot of things closed too! and no casino! and The towel guy was never there in the afternoon to get towels most of the time or they were closed or gone by 4 PM ! poor service again! The map of the Hotel given as a packet very difficult to read should of supplied a magnifying glass with it! Over all I would rate this Hotel very bad experience ! the beach was the only beautiful experience and the massage by the woman! I expect some sort of reimbursement for the room not being what it was and the poor service ! and food ! P. S thank you Mary for listening to me about this property !!! please follow up with them then let me know take care ! Mr Anthony P. Consalvo Joseph A Almonte
"An OK place for Boca Chica"

We stayed at this all-inclusive for a couple of nights early November. As with others, ‘all-inclusive’ is a relative term. In the buffet room, food is provided; and it’s decent. There is also a café, beachside, that is open late night for after the disco that kept warmed hamburgers, hotdogs and fish. There are 2 bars on the beach and one near the theatre that provide free local drinks. There are a la carte restaurants that need to be booked and are pay. The safety deposit boxes must be paid for and the wifi was $25US for 25 hours of usage. The odd one is the disco. To access the disco you go out the front. There are 2 entrances about 100 feet apart. The entrance closest to the street goes to an upper floor and the other goes to a lower floor. They are only separated by a few steps inside. Both floors have a dance floor and a bar. The upper bar is free. The lower bar is 150 DOP per drink. The disco is loud with a few lights. Dancing at times consists a lot of simulated sex acts beyond normal twerking. You can join in or watch. There are 3 buildings but only one check-in. We stayed in the suites building. It was nice but a long walk to the entrance. The beach, however, is easily accessible from anywhere. Suite is a bit of a misnomer for our room. It was more of a large studio hotel room. However, the bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom had a jet tub, a shower, sink and vanity and a separated toilet cubicle. Our ocean view room did indeed have a nice ocean and beach view. You will get hit on and so will your significant other, by locals, staff and in our case, other guests. I appear to be a much older norte Americano hombre than my latina girlfriend so most assumed we had a temporary arrangement (common) and that I didn’t speak Spanish. As such, bartenders, waiters, older men and more would hit on my girlfriend even while I was present. Likewise, in the bars along Duarte, chicas would grab my hand to get my attention if they thought my girlfriend wasn’t paying attention. If this bothers you a lot, you might want to find somewhere you can be more alone. Of course you don’t have to go to the bars on Duarte or the disco. You can have a nice family vacation by watching your surroundings. It isn’t the Ritz and it doesn’t try to be. And like most places, if you look for it, you can find decay, dirt and other bad stuff. But this is a solid 3 star (in my opinion) in a beautiful place with great weather and nice beach protected by a natural reef.
"This is a beautiful paradise!"
I had an excellent time. This place is so beautiful. Our family had such an awesome time. Many thanks to Raisa Gonzales! Be Live Hamaca suites must be proud to have such an excellent asset for their company!
"Horrible hotel, food"
10/26/14 Aurora M New York
I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would recommend thos place...its a complete dump! Hotel: looks run down. Lobby furniture is outdated. Front desk looks pitiful. Layout is horrible. You have to walk a mile just to get to your room. The only view while you are walking are the outer walls. Feels as if you are staying in a jail. There are leaks everywhere and tiles and steps are cracked in various locations throughout the hallways/stairs. The elevators look as if they could break down in any second. Room: Disgusting!!!! The sofas had mold on them. One of the chairs had a broken leg (luckily my hisband noticed because someone would have fallen). The curtains also have mold!!! One of our windows did not lock...pretty safe huh. The bed was extremely hard and the pillows are super lumpy. There was a flat screen, 19" and some channels cannot be heard. The refrigerator is rusty (inside and out). At least they come around everyday to offer you soda, beer and water. The bathroom had 2 sinks...one didnt work and the other one was leaking. The shower had mold all over and even after complaining and having someone come to clean again...still looked the same. Food: Never had I ever had such horrible food in my life. Everything just tasted weird. Not even the mangu (mashed plaintains) or maduros (sweet bananas) were edible...mind you its DR!! Those two dishes should be amazing!!! The buffet looks pretty sad...the only thing worth eating was the bread with butter or jelly. The juices were okay...nothing amazing. At least the water was filtered and tasted good. The restaurants, that you have to get up early and make reservations for, are a complete joke. Food is equally as disgusting. I asked for red wine and got something that tasted like cheap fruit punch with a hint of liquor. Just prepare to starve yourself and survive on water and presidentes. Staff: horrible. We complained about our room and no one knew what to do. When we told them that our room was in the presidential suites, they were in shock! Anyway, their solution was to send someone up to clean the room and fix the sink. Basically, we kept the same dirty, moldy room. No one is genuinely nice or helpful. Bottom line: go to Punta Cana! Way better all inclusives. Last time I'm coming here. This place should be condemned. FYI: I met a few other people that also had numerous complaints...every time you passed the front desk, there was someone screaming.

I am 14 years old but my family has been coming to this hotel for almost 20 years. I love this place it is basically my second home. My family is Dominican so I am there a lot. I just returned home from my stay. We did have some problems I'm not going to lie but overall my stay was amazing. I had gone with my grandma but the entertainment staff made me feel like I was there with a bunch of my friends. I stayed Saturday through Tuesday and on Saturday night I went to the show, like I always do. After the show, I made sure that I took a selfie with the craziest guy on the staff, Baby Face! The next day at breakfast he said hello to my grandma and myself. After breakfast we went to the beach and Baby Face came looking for me for every game. NOTE: once these guys know your name, they will call you on the microphone for every game. Nevertheless, it made my experience the best I ever had. I was laughing the whole entire time! When my grandmother went to the spa I stayed on the beach and watched the soccer game they were having with Modesto. Mikael was also amazing. Actually, the whole entertainment team was amazing. They made me feel like I wasn't alone. Baby Blue, La Chuppi, Kayla, Minnie Mouse, Rodolpho and Old DJ were amazing!!!!! Im definetly going back next summer. I'm even doing my sweet 16 there thats how much I love it. I canNOT wait for next summer.

My family had 4 rooms none of the rooms had a/c. I had a presidential suite and it was the worst room out of all of them. All the rooms had a nasty smell due to the air conditioner not working. We made reservations for 2 nights but we were only able to stay for one night due to the fact that we were uncomfortable. We couldn't sleep that night. Save your money don't stay here!

Be Live was an absolutely beautiful resort. We stayed in one of the Presidential Suites & it was spacious, well-equipped, & very clean. The staff could not have been nicer! There were plenty of food choices and lots of family activities. We would definitely stay at this resort if traveling to the Dominican.
"Save your money...and the aggravation."

If you are accustomed to get what you paid for, expeditious customer service, and luxury...than this is NOT the hotel for you. To say that my experience at this hotel was totally horrible would be a lie. There were many hard workers that made our stay memorable. JOSEITO our towel guy (and on occasion bartender) made us feel like he cared about the customer service experience. And our problem solver Elaina did her best at providing us with a complimentary 40 minute spa treatment, and had champagne sent to our room to make up for all the ridiculous issues we endured. However, be VERY VERY VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN BOOKING AT THIS HOTEL. There are massive air conditioning issues. Just because you pay for an ocean view superior room with a king size bed, that doesn't mean that's what you are going to get. You will get whateber they have available and be prepared to play musical chairs, or in this case musical rooms until you find one that suits your needs. We changed our room 4 times and we ended up sacrificing air conditioning to have an ocean view. After day number three of being checked in and various complaints we were finally shown a room that had AC but it was facing a roof top. Being from Arizona (a landlocked state) that was not what I wanted to wake up to for the remainder of our stay....so we endured no AC to wake up to a view. The check in process is ridiculous. We arrived at 11:30 in the evening and our rooms was not ready. They had us wait for almost 40 minutes to have one cleaned. And even after all that we switched rooms 4 times that evening. The management of this hotel needs to take a long hard look at adequate staffing, informative individuals, and more doers less talkers. No one wants to pay for a vacation and spend three days griping about how they felt duped. My suggestion would be do not stay here. The food is sub par, the alcohol is bottom of the barrel, the resources are virtually non-existant, and the hotel lobby and certain other areas of the hotel look ghetto and unkept. Hope this helps. I would recommend Puerto Plata or Punta Cana for your Domincan experience.
