"Lovely spot by the river in suburb Berlin"

Walking distance from Airport bus drop off, just off the train station, the river walk is another lovely way to get to town. The gym on top floor has nice vies, simple and basic. The breakfast spread is the highlight

We stayed here because of a conference arrangement and for Euro$120 per night in Berlin and with the ratings it has achieved, one would expect higher quality, but maybe I haven't travelled much in Germany?! Room having no bathroom amenities was a bit of a surprise and everything was quite dated. Lastly the service was very disappointing, staff were generally unhelpful and unfriendly except for two that were super nice though can't remember the names. However, the ones that were unfriendly and unhelpful were very different when they were dealing with Germans or people that could speak the language. I don't expect a non English speaking country to speak my language, but I do expect courtesy and a welcoming attitude! If you stay here, make sure you eat at Paulaners which is a pub a few doors down to the left when you exit the hotel - great food and service!

I stayed in the Abion for a week in late June/early July 2014. Having read a number of the previous reviews, I was a little hesitant about staying here. My company chose the hotel as it is adjacent to their offices in one of the buildings next door. I decided to take some initiative and contact the hotel prior to arrival. All my emails with the reservation manager were wonderful. I was able to secure a room with strong wifi and ensure my wife, who accompanied me, was catered for as she was not part of the original company booking. Throughout our stay at the Abion we enjoyed the room, ate at both restaurants (buffet lunches we superb, as was the breakfast buffet each morning) and walked extensively up and down the riverside. The hotel is also very convenient to public transport with bus stops and train stations very close by. Staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. There's also a range of restaurants, shops and bier gartens nearby when required. Our only disappointment was that the hotel was fully booked the following week so we couldn't stay again on our final night before leaving Berlin after a driving trip up north. I will not hesitate to stay here again. Great hotel, well priced and has everything needed.
"Nice place to stay."

We were very pleased with the hotel. Big family room, excellent breakfast, good location near the S-bahn, very clean. One minor point is the carpet. It was clean but we prefer tiling or parquet. Overal a very good experience !!
"Simply not good enough"

I am currently staying here on a business trip. We are attending a training of our company with a larger group. Already when we arrived, the check-in staff was not engaged, continued to explain the hotel information in German while they clearly saw us communicating in English in our international group. Whereas the actual event staff tried their best to accommodate us, even beyond the time we had booked the room for, the event management did not deliver to expectation. We are a group of app 20 people, paying quite some money to this place and when we tried to rent some additional audio/video equipment, the offer was horrendously overpriced. The hotel blamed it on the tech company they work with. Well, they might want to review their supplier. The bar/restaurant staff was very friendly and helpful. The club sandwich was good. The rooms are old fashioned, need to be remodeled and do not compete with other offers in Berlin. I would not recommend this hotel and would not choose to stay here privately or on a business trip.

While the hotel is in a beautiful location next to the river, it had several niggling problems that made my stay frustrating. The wifi in my room was abysmal. I couldn't connect most of the time, and when I could connect the speed was so slow it was unusable. A colleague who was also staying in the hotel had the same problem. When I raised the issue with staff I was offered no apology, and told I could upgrade to the next tier of room for a fee with no guarantee that the wifi would even work in that room. There was cigarette ash under the window of my non-smoking bedroom. There is only a basic soap dispenser in the bathroom -- no shampoo -- so I had to buy toiletries that I think it is reasonable to assume would be provided. There was no basic tea/coffee facility in the room. So, while other aspects of the stay were quite pleasant (e.g. great breakfast), this hotel seemed like poor value for money and a poor choice.
"very nice location, walking distance"

the hotel is very good located. so if you fly in, just take a bus from airport and in 15 min you are here. then you have walking distance to all important sits in Berlin in less than 30 min. staff really nice and hotel is clean.
"Great waterside location near the Tiergarten"

Although not particularly convenient for the Checkpoint Charlie/Berlin Wall part of town, this hotel was great for the Tiergarten and was very pleasantly situated next to the river (obviously!). Check-in was very smooth and we upgraded to a side river-view room with tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water for an extra €10 per night. Well worth it just for the water. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was very comfortable and clean with a lovely view of the river. Having looked at some of the reviews for this hotel, I couldn't work out how any of the rooms could have been 'facing a brick wall' as none of the buildings the other sides of the hotel seemed to have any brick in them. Maybe I missed something? There didn't appear to be many restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel so we decided to try our luck in the hotel restaurant. My mother is coeliac and there didn't seem to be anything on the menu that she could eat so we asked the waitress if she could help. She went away, to the kitchen we assumed, but when she didn't come back swiftly we turned around and saw her serving someone at the bar! We'd already decided not to eat bythis point so got up and walked out. Before we got to the elevator the receptionist reached us, closely followed by the waitress (who had clearly noticed our abrupt departure) and asked us if everything was okay. I was a bit cross, to be honest, because I felt we were being ignored because we were a bit casually dressed (on holiday). However, we didn't want to make a fuss and instead asked the receptionist to call us a taxi to Checkpoint Charlie where we had a lovely meal for a fraction of what we'd have paid at the hotel. On reflection, I think the waitress had poor English and didn't know what we wanted. Hopefully, next time she'll get someone to help more quickly. Wi-fi was pretty rubbish on the 5th floor - extremely internittent and more off than on. If offering free wi-fi hotels really should ensure it works! The only place I had no trouble with wi-fi on this trip was Poland, surprisingly. If it wasn't for the restaurant experience and poor wi-fi, I'd have definitely rated this hotel 5* as it met our expectations in every other way. If you're a holiday-maker and not particularly interested in haute-cuisine I suggest you give the restaurant a miss and you'll have a great stay here!
"Too overpriced for that quality"

I spent two days in Hotel Albion but I am not convinced that I would like to go back anytime. The location is perfect. The room is ok, tidy and comfortable - with really high beds what is not my favorite. We had our lunch in the hotel. The restaurant we could use was so hot that we felt like they started some kind of heating. We asked the waitresses to open the windows and glass doors but the answer was they could not do anything as if they open them the fluffy thing (from some kind of tree) will come in. The food was ok, but nothing special. We also spent our dinner in the hotel (in a different restaurant and we sit outside). The conference room we had to use was horrible. Too old fashioned - style of the 90s, very eye-tiring lights, it was too cold. There were more conferences during our training and as the coffee breaks were not really visibly separated we ate/drank something from the other coffee break and than a waiter came in and told that it is not ours. This hadn't happened when the other ate/drank our things. :) For me this is not what I mean on professionalism I expect from a hotel like this. We tried to check out but it took 40 minutes as the receptionist couldn't create a proper bill... The price was also too high for me (including conference package). So I don't think I would like to go back for any reasons.
"False advertising regarding wifi in all areas!!"

Our family of four recently stayed for a three day weekend at this hotel in Berlin. We chose this hotel because it is a four star property, in a nice pedestrian area on the river and supposedly offered free wifi in all areas. We stayed in a family "maisonette" room, and I can promise you, there is no wifi in this wing of the building. I complained on the first evening that we were there, and they suggested coming to the main section of hotel, because the wifi might work better there, which it did. When I complained that I was disappointed that the wifi did not work in our room and that was a main reason I had chosen this hotel, he offered to move us. Only then did he realise that we were in a family room, and they don't have rooms big enough or available to accommodate us in the main building. So he could not moved us. Supposedly a technician was going to improve our service for the next day, but it still did not work. And the family rooms are so far from the main section of the hotel that I did not feel comfortable leaving my children in the room asleep at night and going to the lobby to check email, check weather and plan activities for our next day. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Also, please note that in the family "maisonette" rooms, the very large windows are on a slanted wall and the blackout shades do not work very well at all. Thus our room was quite lit all night, which also provided for a poor sleep experience. The breakfast would have cost 45 euros per day for our family of four, so we chose to skip that. Paid parking is available in a secure garage underneath the hotel, and was very convenient. The only positive that I can see for this hotel is the location, which is on a lovely pedestrian stretch of the Spree and about a 5-10 minute walk to the subway. There is a large playground for children very close by as well. I will not stay here again, nor would I recommend it.
