"Good rooms - and really great breakfast"
This B&B was another nice stop on our trip. Plenty of signs to make it easier to find - the room was smaller than some, but room enough for us and our luggage and backpacks. Comfortable bed, quiet area, and decent bathroom/shower. The standout here was the breakfast. A very nice assortment for the self-serve area of juices, breads, yogurt, and cereals. […] The additional cook-to-order course really added to the meal. This could easily be your main course and just supplement the rest of the day. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. "Pleasant and Roomy"
A very nice B&B with nothing special to offer (like views or architecture) except outstanding service and a great breakfast. The manager was sweet, they had free WiFi and a PC with printer, and an awesome breakfast. The setting is much nicer than the wintery picture at hotels.comGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Catherine and Patrick left nothing to wish for at their B&B. Patrick welcomed our group of six with tea and cake. Our room was very comfortable. We were impressed with the washcloths in the room along with cotton balls, q tips and a sewing kit. The breakfast offered a. Menue for every appetite. Irish breakfast was made to everyone's request. Would enjoy […] returning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean, comfortable and friendly"
I found the Buttermilk Lodge Guesthouse to be a very clean, comfortable and well run guesthouse. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was top class. I had only reason to stay for one night so I can only base my comments on a short stay. That said, I couldn't find fault with this B&B and for that reason I would stay there again and recommend […] it to others too. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly run guesthouse"
Our stay was very enjoyable with a warm welcome upon arrival. There was a collection of menus from all local restaurants and all information you could ask for. The room was very clean, bed comfortable and plenty of parking space for all visitors. I’d greatly recommend this guesthouse.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent hotel Would stay again Great menu for breakfastGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Warm & cosy. A la carte breakfast scrummy. Tea & coffee making facilities appreciated, plus fruit cake! Wide selection of local history books greatly enhanced our understanding & appreciation of the area. Attentive & helpful hosts but not intrusive. Great place to stay but shame about the weather!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Easy to find, room clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful in advising me where to eat in Clifden and how to find the places they recommended. Easy walk into town - coming back is uphill! Asked for a bacon sandwich (which wasn't on the breakfast menu) and received a fab sarnie. Visitor lounge is a nice touch and they provide glasses and a corkscrew […] so you can bring your own wine back, which is thoughtful. Downsides? Not many - the TV was so high up it was impossible for me to switch on but I wasn't there to watch TV, so not an issue. Didn't spot the specials board for the breakfast until I was on my way out, which was a shame. I'd definitely be happy to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a thoroughly enjoyable 3 nights in this B&B on the Galway coast. The staff there are extremely helpful and very welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional and the beds were comfortable! What more can you ask for!! The location of the B&B was ideal - only a few euro got us a taxi into town where there are several good restaurants and bars around […] (although you can't buy alcohol anywhere on Good Friday!!). This was possibly the best B&B we have ever stayed in!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very cosy little hotel"
The hotel is a small family hotel with friendly service, good breakfast and reasonable prices. Rooms are cosy and the beds very good. At night there was absolute silence until in the morning the birds begun to sing. Wireless internet connection was fast and operated without problems. There is a short (5 min.) walk down to the city centre.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"All you could want and more"

We stayed here for three nights and found it to be a B and B of a very high standard. The range of choices for breakfast for amazing, you need to be there for a few days to sample more than one. There are so many "little extras" here, which make your stay special - homemade cake and tea on arrival, free wi-fi, use of lounge with fridge, sample menus from local bars and restaurants (really useful on a rainy evening when you don't want to trail around looking for the right place to eat) and a host who is more than willing to dry out walkers' wet socks! Useful tip: if you come by bus, the driver will drop you off outside Buttermilk Lodge to save you walking from town.
"Nice B and B just outside town"
08/31/14 JuliaHope New York City, New York
This is a nice B and B, just outside town (5 minute walk). The owners LOVE cows, and have porcelain cows EVERYWHERE - of every sort: toast racks, spoon rests, wind chimes, wall ornaments, little statutes - there are so many cows, there is always something to look at. The rooms are nice enough; could be a little cleaner. Very excellent breakfast. Owners are quite knowledgeable and helpful, if you ask them.
"Cows! Cows everywhere! :)"

My husband and I spent a wonderful night at the whimsical Buttermilk Lodge in Clifden, Co. Galway. In keeping with its name, the charming B&B has decorative cow figurines and cow artwork everywhere. Our hosts, the O'Tooles, were very welcoming, inviting us to a cup of coffee or tea upon arrival. The B&B is warm, inviting, and very well kept. We had a double room which was spacious and comfortable. The lodge is a short wall from the town's Main Street, but still away enough to give it a country feel. Highly recommended!
"Charming B&B in Clifden"

This was an excellent place to stay with such welcoming hosts. The breakfast was superb, the location very convenient. There was so much to do near by. I will most definitely return to Buttermilk Lodge.

Perfect location for a stay in Clifden, as it is only a 5 minute walk to the center of the town but affords peace and quiet for a wonderful night's sleep. Great breakfast and great bed. The hosts were very pleasant and informative without being intrusive. We felt free to come and go throughout the day with the guest house having more of a hotel feel which I prefer over the usual B and B arrangements. Great value and we will be back.

We had four rooms booked out for two nights for an 80th birthday family celebration. We arrived expecting to be welcomed with tea and scones, instead we were not welcomed! Throughout the two days we all felt as if either we had done something wrong to the owners or that they were unhappy with us staying there. Perhaps it was because we had four rooms that we were unwelcome at the lodgings? Perhaps it was some other reason. We were told more than once that there were "other guests" implying that we needed to tiptoe around. We still had to pay the full amount! I would recommend people finding other accommodation in Clifden.

The only time the owners smiled was when we paid the bill. The unfriendliest welcome I have ever experienced and so embarrassing when I had visitors from overseas. The breakfast was the best part and we found the breakfast staff pleasant enough. The rooms were comfortable enough but i not sure we would go back to Buttermilk Lodge to stay.
"stayed 1 night"

I stayed here for 1 night, a solo traveler and it was a pleasant stay. The room was spacious, clean and warm, the breakfast was good and it was only a 10 min walk to the center. The price was fair and the owners were very friendly. Id stay here again.

Myself and 3 male colleagues stayed for a long weekend with owners Patrick and Catriona for a retirement celebration.... The food, accommodation, service and cleanliness were brilliant.... We were handy (3 mins) for the town and of course the pubs. With heavy hearts and memories that will live with us forever we had to leave sunny Clifden Town...Well done Buttermilk Lodge
Can't say enough about our stay here. We were so well-taken care of by Catriona and Patrick. We stayed 7 nights, and didn't want to leave. The room/bed was comfortable, the black out curtains helped us sleep and get rid of our 8 hour jet lag!, the breakfast was amazing every day with choices that were terrific and tasty. This B&B (it felt like a small intimate bijou type hotel, really) was spotless, lovely, and we were completely relaxed here. The O'Tooles take care of guests without hovering, which husband and I both appreciate. We found so many books in their library in the sitting room that were so helpful to read in understanding the history and culture of Connemara. Catriona was always busy during our time here--because it was their busy season-- but always had time for us when we asked a question or needed some advice or directions. They even did the one load of laundry for us in a little over an hour as soon as we asked them (which we didn't expect) and then because we stayed so long with them didn't charge us for it. We weren't expecting that either. So generous. Personal touches were terrific: list of menus for restaurants, the weather report printed every morning, wireless connections were fine and there's a public computer if you don't want to drag your laptop on your trip, a list of pubs that play trad music and the times they start, the list goes on and on. The lodge is located (for us, we walk fast) less than a 5" walk to town, but not IN town, so we parked our car in the lodge parking lot and didn't have to use it much except to go on day trips for exploring, hiking, beaches etc.) I didn't mind the cow theme-I mean, it was actually kind of fun and eclectic. Peat fire in the evening, tea/coffee/biscuits available whenever you like with an electric kettle, and we even used the little tiny fridge in the sitting room to store our bottle of wine for an evening picnic. I love this lodge and if we can ever afford to fly back to Ireland for another trip, Connemara and the Buttermilk Lodge it is. Thanks, Catriona and Pat. I fell in love with Connemara thanks in part to you both!
