Pretty clean overall for a hostel. Comfort is what is, being a hostel. Location is great, between Royal Mile and Cowgate, which is ideal.

Had a problem with our booking which reception staff worked out quickly! We had requested twin private, we were given quad with no other guests... would have been pretty crowded for 4, but for two it was good. Room was not prepared for our arrival, but that was rectified quickly. Key cards on each floor and room doors added to security. Laundry rooms […] available but not super convenient. Free wi-fi in bottom floor bar ONLY, all wi-fi in rooms is sur-charged. Our shower/toilet was in the same tiny room. Workable, but not ideal. Location was great. convenient to all major sites in the Old Town area. Breakfast was good (additional cost). Bar food was good, as well. Overall, a reasonably good experience. Read more

I stayed at this hostel for one night with my parents (who had never stayed in one and wanted to - go figure) and they were incredibly impressed. SmartCity Edinburgh was amazing; super clean, 45 seconds away from the Royal Mile in the heart of the city, and filled with amenities to include computer access, wifi, restaurant, pub, and friendly and helpful […] staff. I would definitely stay there again. The only cons were that wifi wasn't free (but it is at nearby coffee shops) and the walls are a bit thin so you can hear people in the halls (but not in nearby rooms). Read more

Went to the fringe festival with a group of friends and stayed in the smart city hostal. Had a great stay and the breakfast was as good as any hotel. It was my first time staying in a hostel and would recommend it!

The place is easy to find and centrally located, so good for an overnight stop off before leaving early in the morning. It's a hostel, so obviously you shouldn't be expecting hotel standards, but having said that, the rooms are neat, and bed linen is provided. Great hostel, very clean and comfortable, close to everything, great customer service, big in-room shower, nice bar and restaurant. The only fall back was that all shared rooms were mixed gender, which I was fine with, but some may not be. Otherwise, one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in.

Awful stay. We will never try a hostel again. En suite smelled strongly of mildew and mold. You could barely breathe in there with the door closed. It's no wonder - the shower soaked the whole bathroom when it was on. That made using the bathroom to get dressed difficult which was a problem for our family. The room was hot making it necessary to leave […] the window open. Though this didn't help much, it allowed a ton of ambient noise from other guests to keep us up all night. We are talking teenager block party noise - kids screaming just to hear their echoes at 3am noise. There were signs asking that guests keep it down and don't drink all night, but no enforcement or security. Someone even pulled the fire alarm! They need more elevators - they were packed and slow. The stairwell had a trail of blood going up it. There was no wifi on the rooms making it necessary to sit in the bar. The bar was crowded with underage drinkers and teenage revelers. TERRIBLE experience. We didn't sleep well for days while there. There are serious security issues that need to be addressed. Don't waste your money unless you are 16 years old and into partying!!! To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive at staying in a hostel on my own, thinking it would be really dirty, noisy and in a poor state of repair. But my fears were just in my head and could not have been further from the truth. This hostel is excellent. Very modern and clean, with excellent facilities. The hostel was very very nice, the only problem I had was that I was put in a room with a group of very disrespectful guys that spoke loudly at night, make a lot of noise without consideration for other people sleeping in the room, and even drunk alcohol in the room (by the way, they all were drunk, and even got in the room with glasses from the bar […] dropping beer in the carpet). Next day I waked up, left the hostel, and when I came back at night the room was still covered by bottles of beer and stinking like alcohol, so that mean they didn't clean the room. Room was not clean - Toilet particularly dirty. Too much noise at night. Lighting of toilet is controlled by a motion detector, and it gets very annoying (you have to be moving all the time...). Location is very good.

I was worried about staying in a hostel but was surprised by how "hotel" like it was but for a lot less money. Check in was a bit rubbish, still not sure what I was suppose to register for but apart from that, it was great. It is placed in a sidestreet right in the middle of the High Street and you can walk to all tourist atractions in the Old Town. The rooms are ten bed dorm rooms and are mixed gender. So if you have a problem with sleeping in the same room with people of the opposite sex, better not book this one. If you're just staying one night or are not easily woken, […] it is recomendable. Nothing for Families with kids, it can get pretty loud throughout the night as there is a bar in the basement. You should bring a smal lock to lock up your locker. Oh and don't bring big suitcases. There was no 2 bed room available when I arrived with my son, but got a 4 bed room just for ourselves. The beds were very comfortable. There is no TV, you can buy internet access, but be careful when you buy internet access. My second voucher did not work, on one hand the seal on the secret pin code was already brushed off - be sure to check it , on […] the other hand I was only able to renew my 1st day voucher by credit card, there did not seem the possibility to open a seconfd account with a 2nd voucher. Stayed on the 6th floor, where we even got some view and were completely undisturbed from the bar's noise on the ground floor. The hostel consists of 2 wings and easiest way to reach ours was through the bar. At the end of our stay, I wanted to leave our luggages in the hostel, before heading for the railway station, but since I was supposed to take the luggage myself to a storeroom and leave it to my own responsibility I rather declined this option. If I can go on my own, so can anyone else.. Overall, considering you are staying in a hostel and for this reason you do not expect high quality furnishings and fittings in the bathroom, our stay was pleasant and the location was unbeatable, 2 corners away you even find a Tesco Express. Loistavalla sijainnilla. Kävellen pääsi nopeasti joka paikkaan. Huoneet olivat puhtaat ja henkilökunta ystävällistä ja avuliasta. Eihän tämä mikään viiden tähden luxus hotelli ole mutta sisältää tärkeimmät. Menen kyllä toistekkin.

Et veldig greit sted å bo på besøk i Edinburgh. Hostellet lå supersentralt, i nærheten av puber og spisesteder. Men man kan også spise enkel pubmat i 1.etg, samt øl/drinker/vin. Veldig ok sted! Hyggelig betjening og rent. Vi hadde reist tilbake.

Høj standard af et hostel. Virkede helt nyt og lækkert og dejligt med eget bad og toilet på værelset. Lidt blandet oplevelse af personalet i receptionen. Nogle meget venlige og imødekommende, andre fortravlede og stressede. Der var mange store skoleelever på hostel, mens vi var der. Desværre noget uro forbundet med det. Men sådan vil det nok altid være […] på hostels. Morgenmaden var almindelig kedelig engelsk industrikvalitet, men jeg har smagt det der var værre! En nesten perfekt plass å bo. Korte gangavstander til både den gamle og den nye bydelen. Enkle, men reine og praktiske rom. Et hyggelig personale og frokost en ble mett av. Nydelig kaffi. Det eneste minuset fra vårt rom var støy fra utesteder og trafikken utover kvelden.
