"Historic Tavernier Inn Hotel"
Very much an efficiency hotel. Tiny room with only amenities is that of a TV. A decent place to sleep for the night, but that's about it. Under-lit bathroom, but essentially a clean place. Limited parking in a very dark lot. Hotel desk is not attended at anytime, and uses a lock-box method to pick up your key. Questionaire asks to rate hotel service, […] but there is none. "Clean place to sleep"
If you looking for just a clean place to sleep at a reasonable price, this place is not to bad. Old hotel with small rooms and no aminities. Nice bakery and coffee just next door. Could be a charming little inn with a little work. Very easy to find right on the main highway.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Most Unusual Hotel"
The check in process with no front desk staff was most unusual. I did OK but the folks behind me had a terrible time getting an answer when they picked up the phone 15-20 minutes & were very frustrated. I travel a great deal for work & have never had to do Housekeeping's job by stripping the bed. You must be very adventurous to stay here.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ok for passing thru"
The price was great. That should have been a clue. There was absolutely no water pressure in the shower. The bed had nice, clean linens and blankets but the box springs were shot, we both kept falling toward the middle.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Won't be back."
We won't recommend it to anyone but it did the job as far as a place to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Economic stay in Key Largo"
We had planned a passing thru type of stay... It was perfect for that. Price was right. Maybe better signage re: the self check in process would be helpful. Cute breakfast options right next door.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We are self-sufficient travelers and enjoyed the ease of coming and going. Nice sheets and towels. It is an old hotel with lots of charm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"It was a bed"
Check in was horrible! Had to pick up a phone in the lobby, no human, had to wait on hold for quite awhile. Did not refresh room on second day. If desperate for a room, then book this place. Otherwise find something else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Noise,Smell and staff were not up to par"
When we arrived to check-in no one was at a desk to check us in. We had to pick up a phone and leave a message on a voicemail and luckily someone came to get us our room key. The room was on the road side in which cars and trucks did not stop all night. There was no insulation or anything to try to block the noise. Old room.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good Afternoon- My husband and I just stayed at your Inn this weekend. Checked in on Friday and out yesterday. We had requested an early check in and our room was ready, I would like to thank you for that. We were very unhappy with the status of our room. We have stayed in many places throughout the keys and we completely understand old. That's throughout […] the entire keys. Old is one thing if it were clean. Our room was not. The bed had stains on it which I don't even want to imagine what it was. Thankfully I brought our own sheet, pillows and blankets. The bathroom shower was horrible. We had to wear our flip flops is the shower and my husband put a towel down because of the mold that was in there and on the shower curtain. That is just simply unacceptable and disgusting. The carpet we had to wear our socks because there was an odd smell. Walking by another room we noticed wood floors. That would have been nice. Also we had to use the same towels both days because no one changed them. I feel that the money that I paid for this room was no where near worth it even though it was about $90.00 per night. I am sorry to say that I will not recommend anyone to stay there or even stay there again myself. Respectfully, Michelle Childers Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were just looking for a place to stop on our way out to Key West. Just to break up the drive. It is an old place, but the bed was very comfortable. You will be right on Highway 1, so not for light sleepers. It is cheap and easy. We would stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
The self check in, I'm not sure. The door slamming all night was not so appealing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice place --- don't expect too much."
Finding the hotel was easy. It's conveniently off of Rt. 1. The hotel is old and shos it's age. The neighborhood is quaint and convenient to restaurants, shopping and movie theaters (within walking distance).Genuine Expedia guest review
Good place to stay for Key Largo. Room is basic with floor space. Check-in is by phone in lobby; frig and coffee maker is in laundry room. If back in Key Largo, I'd stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"On the highway to the Keys"
No staff at reception. Very old and unkempt.Genuine Expedia guest review
Perfect place to stay for an overnighter in the Upper Keys. Despite some bad on-line reviews (I have stayed in many different hotels in the Keys for years!) this hotel is typical 'Keys'.......and the complaints about the auto-key check in are slightly ridiculous.....you pick up a phone, person on other end gives you a code, you remove your room key. No onsite person to check in with. Check in was by auto dialed phone in vestibule which disconnected 3 times whirl trying to get check in procedures. NO HOT WATER and no one to report the problem to.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Inexpensive, historic, but..."
For an old hotel, it's okay, but too close to highway made our room noisy. Moldy, musty smell. No wifi. Glad we had our hotspot. But Cafe Moka next door is awesome.Genuine Expedia guest review
Other than the noise all night, must be part of the mystique., OKGenuine Expedia guest review
"Get what you paid for"
It was nice to be in an historical building. The room was pretty tiny, and there is no one at the desk, just a number to call. The location is good, but the immediate surrounding area doesn't have much in terms of entertainment. If you have a car it's just a short drive to nightlife and other activities. Since it was one of the cheaper accommodations […] on New Years, it wasn't bad. There is complimentary laundry (bring your own soap) in the common room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
""Rustic" is a polite way of putting it, I suppose"
A bit of a complicated check-in process. You have to call a person on the phone who then gives you a code to get your key from a lockbox. Only problem is that the person we called could not find the code, so we stood there for probably ten minutes while he called somebody ELSE to get the code so we could get our key. (o_O) Second, be advised, the walls […] are PAPER THIN. You can hear everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in the room next door. Can't emphasize this enough. It is a charming place I suppose, but don't come looking for convenience or privacy. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worst hotel ever"
This place is a rip-off. They claim its a historic hotel and what you get is a cramped room which just fits a bed. No space to move around and the room cooler makes hell of a noise to keep you awake all night. There is no person to meet you at the front desk and you have to talk to the call center for any help.Genuine Expedia guest review
This is an odd little hotel. It's perfectly fine if you're just looking for a bed and a shower for a low price. There is no staff onsite - check in is done via a phone and a lockbox. There is no maid service during your stay, they only clean the room after you check out. That being said, our room was very clean upon check in. The rooms are very small […] and felt crowded with just me and my wife in there. The bathroom is tiny too and the toilet is so close to the wall that my knees would occasionally touch it. There are plenty of dining options and a grocery store a short drive away. The coffee shop next door had the best coffee in the keys which is a great bonus. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Ok for 1 night"
I was very excited about spending a night at this hotel as it's previous reviews said about its old vintage feel and I was looking forward for it as I missed my ancestral home.. The initial feel was good as the room was neat, the bed was huge and had a homely feeling.. The size of the room was small but I could ignore it.. But the worst part was the […] bathroom!! The toilet did not flush and the bath area was not that great.. And in the morning the wash basin quit draining!! That completely spoilt my mood and I checked out as soon as I was ready to leave.. Location and everything is good but with no Front desk or any one to ask for help it was a little dis heartening.. So overall I was very disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Historic? Nice word for old and outdated."
Our room was damp and while using the air conditioner the air smelled like an non-ventilated basement. We asked for another room but none was available. There was no stuff on site, only by phone.Genuine Expedia guest review
If you are a college student, and looking for a cheap place, then this place is the place to stay. However, the building is old, window unit AC is very loud, and you can hear everything from the rooms upstairs... The room is also very humid, even the AC is on. There is no front desk. "okay but wouldn't stay again"
Building is old however rooms, bathroom and bedding was clean. Bed was uncomfortable and creaked and tv would shut off when the ac would be on for longer than 15 mins ( no central air).. Hallway had a damp smell as if there was previously a leak.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You have to make your own bed, exchange your own towels, nobody cleans your room and there is no front desk service in the evening. The internet connection was poor at best and there was not so much as a desk to sit at to do your work. I would not recommend this place to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel is adequate for cleanliness, but the shower did nothing but spray cold water and there was no one on site to talk to. Also Internet did not work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but had unusual check in system."
Would rather have a person check us in rather than an automated system. The room was clean but we were unable to find any cups anywhere and the room had no hot water. We were generally satisfied and would stay again for a short term stay. Rates were good. The cafe next to the hotel was excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Never saw a staff member"
While the room was clean and the building itself seemed kept up I would not stay here again. When we came to check in at 7:30 pm (24 hour check in was advertised) we had to use a phone to call a service that would give a code to a lock box where the room key was located. Unfortunately the phone kept disconnecting. It took more than 20 minutes to finally […] get through - and then we got disconnected before I could get the code. If we hadn't prepaid we would have left and gone elsewhere. After another 15 minutes we were finally able to get the code. The sign said someone would be at the "check in desk" from 7:30am until 8:00pm - we left at 10:00am the next morning, and never saw anyone. There is a drop box to leave the key - hence no receipt. "Will stay again"
Nice place. Only issue was there was no front desk just a phone that called someone to give you the code to a lock box that your key was in. No one answered the phone... A maintenance worker was able to get ahold of someone one and besides that we had a great stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Check-In via box was really new for us. It is more a Motel than a Hotel. Also the redused service. This Hotel is nice for one or two nights. No coffee maker into the room. The room was very small but very clean. This was the good Thing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
There was no loud noises, great location in the middle part of the Keys, it had pretty much everything I could need for a night and a fair price. I recommend it!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice older hotel. Quaint, but very clean."
My wife and I were returning from KEY WEST, and decided to get in an extra day of snorkeling. Found this hotel on Expedia, second from cheapest, and liked the old hotel atmosphere. Check in was weird, as we never saw anyone in person. All communication was by house phone, with old fashioned actual brass key in an individual lock box which they gave […] you a code to open. We never saw any hotel personnel, but everything turned out well. Nothing but a clean place to spend the night. Bed was comfortable with a real Feather Pillow (there was also a foam one for anyone allergic to feathers. Would stay again if just needing lodging and a convenient base of operations. "OK Hotel or Motel?"
It was OK. Really nothing special at all. Good to get some rest but not to stay in for more than a day or two. Too expensive for what it is.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a nice clean hotel. The funny thing was there was nobody there. I walk in and there's a phone, so I call and a guy on the other end gives a number for a key lock box to retrieve my key. Everything was fine for the night but I wonder if there was any problems who do you call. No phones in the room. Saw people cleaning the rooms the next day, but […] no one in the office. I visit the Keys on a monthly basis sometimes 2-3 times on business, first time I stayed here as it was the opening day of lobster season which made it practically impossible to find a hotel. This place was a joke, check in was by telephone through some lock boxes in the lobby. I get to the room and no cups for water, no coffee maker, no alarm clock, […] no ice bucket or even an Ice machine I could find in the hotel. AC unit was so loud all night could not sleep, hot water in shower took 15 minutes to finally get luke warm. Overall a bad stay and would not recommend it to anyone.
