Much better choices elsewhere. We had a hard time finding the sign for the hotel. The room was clean and small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is listed as a historic property - that is true, rooms are small, but staff are friendly, location is excellent and value is high. There is moderate street noise in most rooms, but that is typical along the overseas highway. Parking is free and behind the hotel. No elevators and thin floors, so if you are on first floor, you WILL hear your neighbors, […] but maybe that is part of the experience for one night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not the Ritz, but certainly acceptable"
You cannot expect the Ritz Carlton at these prices. It was not uncomfortable and the price was reasonable. The staff was pleasant. There is a quiet small park at the end of the road, adjacent to the water, and a nice place for a stroll. There is a community refrigerator, washer/dryer, and microwave, which is a bonus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
Hotel was old, thin walls, rooms and bathroom outdated and very very small. Good for one night.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a small but cosy hotel. This particular room was rather small. Hotel is close to three very good restaurants and the general surrounding is quaint. I would definitely recommend to other fellow travellers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice room w/ 4 separate beds for okay price"
We were surprised to see four separate beds in the room (#100). Two of them were big enough to accommodate two people and two them were sufficient for one person. There was nice kitchenette with microwave, coffee machine, and a fridge. There was a clean sink with few kitchen items like spoons, bowls, and cups. We liked the separate beds so that everyone […] could in their own separate beds after a long day at the beach and shopping. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It's historic for a reason. The place is old but clean. I can sit here and complain about a lot of things but for $100 a night in the keys you can't complain. The staff was friendly. The dog, Taz, was awesome. We became quick friends after I gave him a treat. It took a day for the place to grow on me. For $100 a night I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was very, very very small. Otherwise everything else was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute, quaint and comfortable...."
We spent one night here on a trip down to Key West and were pleasantly surprised at how clean and presentable both the hotel and our room were. We arrived after 7pm, by which time the front office was closed. However, fortunately, they had contacted us earlier to confirm our arrival time and advise that they'd leave our room key and information in the […] little lobby area that leads to our room. The room is pretty basic but has everything that's needed for a brief overnight stay - shower, ac, comfortable bed and a pretty modern wall-mounted flatscreen tv. There weren't any power outlets in the bathroom so plugging in a shaver, hairdryer or flat iron wasn't an option. There was a communal microwave and fridge in the lobby area which came in quite handy later that night when we wanted to heat up some left overs and chill a bottle of wine. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we won't mind passing through there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Least expensive for the weekend"
Second time staying here, so I knew what to expect. What this hotel needs is someone to do all the cute little touches and updates. Room was clean but dated. Small flat scrren tv on a wall mount. If you're over 5'9' tall, your knees will hit the wall when sitting on the commode. They left plenty of towels because there was no maid service. Parking is […] tight, might not get a space if you're the last one back. All in all this could be a cute little boutique hotel with a little work, but it was the least expensive in the area for our weekend stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
we just needed a room for an overnight so didn't spend much time in the hotel other than to sleep and shower. For the price it was what would be expected in the Keys. We didn't use any of the amenities - not sure there were any. The room was clean. The walls are paper thin.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs to work on grounds and office"
This hotel is a great overnight destination to somewhere else right now. The courtyard was a mess. Looks like they might be cleaning it up but should have been completed before peak season. Checking in made us really nervous about the rooms, office was also a mess, stuff was everywhere. This left us very nervous about our room. "old but comfy"
First impression...not so cool, the office area was dirty, cluttered, but the room made up for it. Very clean, basic, unique, and comfortable. Could smell bleach. Nice shower. Located right on main road. Best restaurant....Snooks Bayside.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The complimentary washer and dryer was used and appreciated. Appears that the owners are currently doing some renovating -- i.e. making more parking room. Hotel is old, but in good shape. There was mold on the walls near the ceiling in our shower. Did not appreciate the worm-like bug I discovered crawling on my face at 3:30 AM. Saved it and the lady […] at the desk in the AM said it was native to the area and harmless. Loved the soft white towels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
Surprised at how unfriendly and downright annoyed the check in person was. Wow! If our room hadn't been prepaid we would have left. Also a charging, barking dog greeted us at the door. Room was tiny, clean, comfortable bed and working tv. No coffee. Night was cold and we found a single-sized blanket in our room, still in the wrapping. Bathroom commode […] impossibly small for a tall person. Construction going on. A big mess. Cheap. You pay $10 more a night for a king sized bed. Hope they improve. "Not up to hotels.com standards"
I thought this would be an adequate, average old hotel, but it was well below that. Tiny room. Really tiny bathroom. No chair to sit on. The office (which is a mess) is only open until 7pm so we almost missed getting our room key. Unfortunately it makes me feel leery of using hotels.com in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not happy with stay"
It was difficult to register because of signs not clear. finally finding the office a dog jumped up on us. Office was littered with dog toys and very messy. We got to our room and just ok we decided to stay because it was late and had already paid for the room. The beds squeaked and there was no Light in the bathroom. I do need to give credit for some […] of the updates in the room. Garden area was in need of TLC. Coffee shop next store was very nice. Would not return. the cost was high for the entire visit. "Watch out for the dog during check in"
The hotel was very clean for an older hotel. Check in was quite another story. The owner has a dog that kept on jumping on me as I was trying to check in. Not all people are ok with having animals all over them.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfy place for larger family"
Nice historic hotel, where rooms are small but little luxuries, like pillowtop mattresses, have been added. Not fancy but comfortable. We really liked the fact that we had beds for all 5 members of our family, even in a small room. Loved the little nearby park on the ocean and Cafe Moka attached.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Flash to the past"
I have a hard time going up stairs (my back). When I was checking in to room was upstairs I asked for a room on ground level she made an Al Gore “huff” and change to room. The only thing that wasn’t 60 years old was the T.V. and hair dryer. We stayed two nights we didn’t have clean towels or any maid service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"It was just mediocre..."
The hotel is definitely quaint and historic. Parking availability was not great, as one lot served both the hotel and the cafe next door. The best thing about it was being next door to Cafe Moka! The lock on the bathroom door was broken and the door did not close all the way, and the lamp in the corner did not work. The water in the shower was great--until […] someone else flushed the toilets or took a shower, then it got either really cold or really hot!! Other than that, it was clean, bed was comfy enough, and the window A/C unit kept the room nice and cool. They did get me an ironing board and iron, as requested. Not much room to move around, but we did enjoy the city of Tavernier, and especially the fish sandwich at Craig's Diner! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleased, no problems"
I was very pleased with the Tavernier. The room was very clean, good a/c, good shower, free laundry on site, fridge and microwave for your use in lobby. For a budget option it was very good. Would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quasi cheap lodging in the upper keys"
While the "historic charm" may be appealing in some regard the reality is simple, its a somewhat inexpensive place to stay in the upper keys. There are rooms around the same price, and lower, as I stayed somewhere else the rest of my trip, that are on the water and are much more quite than this one. Its fairly cheap, the rooms are clean, albeit small […] (remember its an old Keys hotel) and convenient. The best part, the plentiful and cheap Cuban food next door! "Exactly what I expected but cleaner"
You get what you paid for, but I mean it in a good way. There is nothing fancy about this place, but think of it as rustic and orginal instead of cheap. The a/c was pumping when we got to our room, always a plus in FL and everything was clean, fairly fresh paint and good quality shampoo/soap. The room was small and the bathroom smaller, but it did its […] job without fear of bedbugs or roaches and in FL there is something to say for that. The cafe was great! super cute and trendy. "beautiful waterfront room"
First of all I wish we had stayed more than one night. The top things I look for in a hotel are hot water, cleanliness, cold ac, and comfortable beds. This place had all that and more. "The representative did not follow through"
We had six people to two rooms. The lady told us there would be two queen beds and two rollaways. We got there and there were only two beds. Because all six of us were adults, some people had to sleep on the floor because the representative misinformed us that the hotel had rollaways (which they didn't even carry). Also, the hotel was TWO HOURS away […] from where I had told the representative that I was wanting to stay!! Talk about one ridiculous night! Parking was ok, as long as there weren't a lot of cars already in the lot. The room was clean and the a/c was already on. I read some other reviews AFTER I had booked the room and was like, "what did I get myself into here?"...but....we had a really good stay here. The towels and stuff were all clean. Didnt expect anything fancy, but was not told in advance that you need to check in by five, otherwise NO ONE is around to assist. "Old and run down does not equal Historic"
We had to find a place to stay in or near Key Largo at the last minute and everywhere was full so we found this place. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until 11pm and when we got there the only 2 gaps between cars would not fit a Camaro, or anything other than an extremely compact car. Luckily a nice guy came to get something out of his small car and […] offered to move to the end of the lot into what wasn't really a space but his car fit there and mine fit where his had been. When we got into the room we found there was only about 2 to 3 feet of space, if that, on each side of the bed. The bathroom was very small and the door handle and catch had long since been painted over many times , so they had screwed a sliding lock on the door, but that had broke at some point so you just had to close the door as much as possible to use the toilet. We tried to dress quick so I hope that even though the blinds in the room were pretty transparent, and the blinds in the bathroom were broken near the bottom, no one saw anymore than a glimpse as we changed or got out of the shower. The main doors are all very thin and ours had to be pulled firmly shut. I noticed in the morning that I could hear everyone's conversations going on through their doors as I walked down the hall. I will agree that the bakery next door was very good as many have said, but you don't have to stay at this hotel to eat there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average hotel...worth the price."
We stayed at the Tavernier Inn for three nights. The rooms and bathrooms are on the smaller side but are suitable for one or two people for shorter stays. The hotel was nothing like it was portrayed on the website. The registration office was dirty and there was garbage all over there floors. It was a house and the rooms were divided for rentals. The hotel is older but it is kept clean and organized. Small rooms, you have to share a refrigerator and microwave with the entire floor, and there is no one at the front desk.
