Ancient House River Resort & Spa - Hoi An

This hotel was a very mixed bag. It was on a scenic river, had a very pretty pool and yard, beautifully designed rooms. The breakfast buffet was very good and the restaurant in general had good food and reasonable prices. BUT it was very far from town and beach, not really walkable to anywhere. And the staff seemed not to know English well. When we […] arrived we were told the river view suite for which we had pre paid, was not available. When I insisted, a room was magically available. Every time we spoke to the front desk there was an attempt to upsell, or to direct us to a particular store, taxi company. This is a very quiet and comfortable hotel. The cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel was first class and i have stayed in better rated hotels that are inferior to this hotel. Ancient House River is a 20 minute bike ride from town and about 15 minutes to the coast beaches and if you are not that energetic the free bus shuttle was very handy. Enjoyed staying here. It's about 10 min outside HoiAn. However, the hotel shuttle ran frequently & the cost of a taxi was about $4. It's a lovely setting on the river.

We arrived very late, but the receptionist was still there to meet us with a delicious passion fruit juice and a smile on her face. The building is a not too big and the architecture follows old Vietnamese architecture, fitting perfectly well in the landscape. The choice of design in the main building (where you have breakfast) and in the rooms is very […] simple but beautiful, lots of attention to detail. We especially loved the little Vietnamese legands that were left every night on our bed as a bedtime story. Great touch! Although the hotel is not in the center of town, they have a free shuttle service (during pre-determined hours, otherwise you can pay $2 a person to go into town when you wish) and free bicycles. We cycled everyday enjoying the wonderful scenary of the Hoi An countryside and adjoining villages. We even rode our bikes out to the beach, and that was also a wonderful experience. Although the hotel itself is already worthwhile, what made the experience simply incredible were the staff: warm, welcoming and ready to help with anything. We even decided to splurge on a Vietnamese massage at the hotel's SPA and loved it. We will definitely be going back given that we live in Hanoi. Read more

This hotel is lovely - our room was huge with a comfy bed and spacious bathtub. Great selection at breakfast - loads of fresh fruit, omelettes made to order and freshly baked pastries. A bit out of the way, but actually we preferred not being in middle of Hoi An as it's quite touristy. Dont want to too unfair as this place was the only non resorty type place we stayed at in Vietnam. damp miserable weather didnt help as first impression was a little disappointing but it is only 3star.. cleanliness was good and rooms were good altho we booked the 'best' room and it was just a lot of space not used well so a waste of the extra cost althho […] not too pricey. a normal room would probably be ok. pool is nice in good weather. restaurant just functional, food mediocre and service is difficult.. staff mostly cant speak or understand English so v difficult to communicate esp if you need to knw details of the food! not many veggie options. I understnd the language barrier but a waiter should at least know the basics and what the food on the menu is. They also advertise another restaurant above reception which was non existent and the bar was never open although it wasnt appealing at all really... the seating is also all very uncomfortable so nowhere to really chill if stuck indoors due to rain apart from the bed! This place is also 4km out of town which in good weather would be ok to cycle etc and they do have a good shuttle service to and from town. I dont know whether to recommend or not... as i dont have another similar one in the area to compare to... but generally ok. Most bizarre thing is that the comments in the visitor's book are all excellent so not sure if i'm just really fussy... its personal i guess. Read more

Amazing, lovely beautiful hotel. Gorgeous riverside hotel with free buses to beach or town (10 mins) or easy to borrow a pushbike, or rent a motorbike or just walk around. Old town of Hoi An was wonderful, great restaurants and picturesque. Beach was nice enough too.

L'hôtel est dans un petit village typique vietnamien sans l'ombre d'un touriste à part vous, car aucune autre infrastructure hôtelière autour. Hoï An étant un lieu très touristique, nous avons adoré être un peu en dehors de la foule. Parfait pour une pause au calme. En taxi vous en avez pour 80.000 dongs pour aller à Hoï An, soit 3 euros. Ce petit […] hôtel est charmant car : petit 20 à 30 chambres, jolie déco de chambre, jardin fait comme un écrin de végétation, piscine très agréable, l'hôtel donne sur la rivière qui mène à Hoï An, vous pouvez y aller en bateau la balade est charmante bien qu'un peu chère : 200.000 dongs/pers. L'hôtel est à 4 km de la ville et autant de l'océan avec navette gratuite et vélos pour vous y mener. A la plage, ils ont des accords avec un restaurant de plage où vous aurez a disposition chaises longues et parasols et où vous pouvez déjeuner ou dîner. Pour ce qui est du service, ils sont adorables et font tout leur possible pour vous rendre la vie douce, par contre l'hôtellerie au Vietnam s'apprend sur le tas, pas d'école, donc forcément c'est toujours un peu folklo, mais comme partout au Vietnam. Le restaurant est bon, nous y avons mangé tous les soirs par commodité familiale. Petit truc : méfiez vous car le 1er soir, ils nous ont amené la carte "gastro", délicieux mais 1.100.000 de dongs le dîner pour 3, ce qui est énorme pour le Vietnam. Il y a une carte lunch qui existe et qui est beaucoup plus simple et tout aussi bonne et qu'ils servent le soir, n'hésitez pas à la demander.
