"Ballynahinch Castle Hotel"
The hotel is absolutely amazing, the views are beautiful. I didn't want to leave! I really loved the shower as well. The service in the pub was a bit slow as we had to wait awhile to receive another drink and then to collect our bill. We ordered a late night snack and an hour later we received delicious scones and unfortunately, a bowl of badly burnt popcorn which was inedible.

"Who Wouldn't Love Staying in a Castle?"
Staying at the Ballynahinch Castle was like a dream! Our room was very spacious and super comfortable and clean. We paid a little extra for a view of the river and it was well worth it! We walked the castle grounds on some of the marked trails. It was like a fairytale! We had dinner in the pub near a cozy fireplace and felt right at home. Breakfast was amazing with a beautiful display of self-serve options along with anything you wanted off the menu. Service was quick and the staff was very efficient. The newly renovated dining area was done in great taste with furniture and "fixin's" appropriate for the period of a castle. Hats off to the general manager and staff. Oh! And the front desk staff were SO accommodating, even to the point of stepping outside in a drizzle to take a photo of us before leaving! What can I say! We loved it!

"Recent stay at the Ballynahinch Castle Hotel"
The Ballynahinch was to be our top spot to stay while in Ireland. This was a returned visit for us. The personnel were all very attentive to us from our initial greeting to the dining services for breakfast and dinner. Our room was clean but the linens on the bed were less than satisfactory. A followup note by the Hotel Manager indicated a mixup by staff on using linens that were being discarded. When you pay the daily rate for this level hotel, you deserve the highest level of checks and balance by the supervisory staff to make certain the bedding used in each room meets the requirements of the hotel and what the customer is due. Nothing short of this can be excused away by the manager. Where this hotel would have been included in our return visits to Ireland, this last experience would create doubts about returning for a second chance on getting it right!

"Go off the beaten path and stay at Ballynahinch."
We are so glad we decided to stay at Ballynahinch Castle. The Castle is very charming and the staff is extremely attentive. The pub was cozy and the food was unbelievable. We stayed for two nights and visited Clifden Castle and Roundstone fishing village. At night we enjoyed the living rooms with their fire places. We have two children and they were very welcomed by the staff and at night we played family board games and chess. Matt was such a gentleman and always stopped by to keep the fire roaring and made sure our kids had cookies and hot chocolate.

"Who would have thought it could be so quiet!"
In the middle of no where was this outstanding hotel. The dinner was over the top, spectacular. Our room the first night was OK, small in size and a bit of a view. We upgraded to a lux suite the 2nd night and the view of the river was so wonderful we had dinner in our room. The paths throughout the property made this get away place so special!!

"SF Traveler"
An interesting stay in an old classic hotel, clearly an Irish treasure, like an old lady that is a little worn. The setting is fantastic. Two days unless the fish are running is enough as there is little else to do. The downside of the old lady is no elevators, or air conditioning, or screens on the windows to keep the bugs out which means no ventilation or open windows at night. It is a destination resort with an excellent dining room and dining in the bar. I am glad we visited and was a nice break from a city hotel.

"Nice, if you want to splurge!"
The drive up to this hotel is amazing! Great countryside. The hotel was beautiful...relatively smaller than other castles visited, but also more affordable than those places! The room couldnt have been better! Great staff who will inform you of the hotel and the routes to walk around the grounds if desired. The resturaunts (resturant and pub) onsite were pricey, but if you're splurging to stay here, you can splurge for dinner! Get there early to enjoy a walk around the lake.

"Disappointing"
This was our one evening that we thought we would have a splurge. We were disappointed in the room. The room was dull and dark. Not much of a luxury accomodation. Considering the rate that we paid. When I complained to reception she said that is the rate for that room. This was the most expensive hotel during our entire stay in Ireland. I would discourage other travellers from staying here.

"Can't wait to come back!"
07/31/15 CCSenior Paradise, NL
Stayed here for my birthday, as a special treat. It was a one night stopover on our way to Northern Ireland and wish we had more time here. We got in a little late, so we ate dinner in the Pub. What a warm and truly relaxing place with guests and locals alike. You can overhear the guides and locals discussing the fishing this year with hearty laughs over a solid draught beer. Great little pub to people watch. Breakfast here is nothing short of outstanding! Husband had the lamb liver and swears it's the best thing he's ever eaten in his life. The cheese, meat, and fruit table was overflowing with choices and the service was quick and very professional. Could have spent all day in the breakfast room with the view of the stream, gardens, and fabulous food. The grounds here are lovely. The salmon stream, gardens, and buildings all make for a peaceful and serene evening walk after dinner. The hotel itself smells like a deep smoky wood and just adds to the atmosphere of your stay. There's a warm fire in the entrance and there are a couple of sitting rooms to make use of during your stay. The room itself was very late with an extremely comfortable four poster bed. The bathroom was very modern, complete with a heated mirror to eliminate the steam from your shower. The shower was a dual shower and there was a soaker tub as well. It may be a Castle Hotel, but there is nothing pretentious about this place. Would love to bring the husband here again for a longer stay to try the fishing options available. Left here and cut through the Connemara National Park, which was absolutely stunning. Wish we had more time to explore the area, as we had heard that Clifden was also a nice town to visit.

If you plan on visiting the west coast of Ireland a stay at this castle is a must. Stunning views, beautiful rooms, locally produced Voya toiletries and truly lovely and welcoming staff. There is a pub on the ground floor with the best home cooked meals I ate during my Ireland trip. Breakfast is served in the main dining room over looking the river. Quality, service, staff and ambience outstanding.

"Excellent base to explore the countryside"
07/25/15 max89118
Although not a castle per se, and generally quiet expensive, the Ballynahinch experience is not one our family will forget from our trip. My daughter enjoyed the sheep wandering the property, my wife the nature hikes and surrounding wilderness, while I enjoyed the superb trail running. This hotel has something for most, from a pub to a five star dining experience, to skeet shooting in the countryside. The highlight of our stay was a boat tour arranged by the hotel where we spent the morning visiting an abandoned island, fishing, and pulling lobster pots. The captain of the boat even let us borrow his cooler to transport our catch back to the hotel, and surprisingly, the service staff at the hotel cooked, plated, and served the fish wonderfully at no additional cost. The only negative thing I could say about our stay was that there appeared to be a staffing shortage at the hotel, and service at the eateries took longer than expected. However, once this was mentioned to the staff one evening during dinner, they gave us complimentary drinks by way of apology and we were shocked later to see the hotel manager serve us our entrée!

"Excellent Castle Hotel, Lots of history"
07/16/15 thoppilan Fairfax, Virginia
Very nice old castle hotel with lots of history; some of which is connected with the country of my birth. An Indian prince leased it and then owned it in the 1930s. They still call their cigar room, "Ranji" room. They also stock a great variety of Irish whiskeys in their bar and tasting few of them late after dinner was wonderful. I was more impressed by the grounds and trails. We made good use of several of them; while taking in the wonderful scenery. Have to say two in our group got sick the day after eating dinner at their restaurant while the other four had no issues. The food was rich in creamy sauces so if you are not used to eating that type of food avoid it or select dishes appropriately. But the service was great everywhere including the restaurant.

"Picturesque and relaxing .. Some of the time"
07/15/15 paulandpodge London, United Kingdom
A truly unique and special building and location with a great deal of history. The rooms have been refurbished nicely but we were greeted with a "carpet" of long hairs and dust throughout the entrance area and bathroom. When I apologised for having to ask them to clean it, it didn't seem to go down very well. The area was cleaned but I continued to find long black hairs everywhere in the bathroom until check out. The restaurant is also beautifully refurbished and again has an enviable and priceless setting and view. That helps as it is certainly "pricey" for the service and food that was produced. There was a very long wait between courses, which I normally like but this was excessive. The food arrived "cool" but presentable. Service was patchy and again I think they could invest the high nightly room rates in a cleaner as again the floor was very dirty. All in all a nice stay but not worthy of "Four Seasons Hotels" prices without a Four Seasons product. It could be amazing.

Not easy to find and very isolated so cannot walk to a local bar and/or restaurant. We stayed 2 nights and had room 46 - fabulous with a great bath and views over the river and gardens but it was a marathon walk to bet to including up 2 flights and down 2 flights! - but in a very quiet area of the hotel. No tea/coffee in the room but you can order from reception. We asked for some on arrival (4.00pm) but stated it was for the next morning - however it arrived quickly and included milk in a jug and it all remained in the room for the 2 days! we stayed - seemed an odd system. Also the complimentary still water was never replaced although we asked twice. Choc on the pillow first night when bed had been turned down but not the 2nd. There was no guest information re. the hotel provided in the bedroom. Dinner on the first night in the main dining room and had the 3 course menu - the food was great but after 2.5 hours only had 2 courses and we were so tired we went to bed. The computer's set price for the meal could not be altered so they took the price of the wine of instead!. 2nd night ate in the bar which was very busy and similar menu as the night before and from the same kitchen. However not a set menu and the steak was marvellous but needed more veg.and the service far quicker. Not what we would have called "pub food" We got the impression there were issues re the number of chefs available. Breakfast was good but on the 2nd morning arrived at 9.00am and a fair amount of the cereals/bread had been finished. Overall good but catering needs refining.

"Superb accommodations in a breathtaking setting"
07/13/15 Paula K Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
If Ballynahinch could control the weather, it would have been an absolutely perfect visit! It was drizzling most of the time, but it didn't really distract from the beauty. The surrounding grounds are beautiful every direction that you look. We had a room (44) that overlooked the river. It looked like it had been updated fairly recently and had a super comfortable bed with a large sitting area. This was one of the luxury rooms in the "newer section" which I chose because of the river view. We arrived early on the day we checked in so that my husband could do some fly fishing with a guide. They provided everything he needed. We ate dinner in the tavern and the food was very good. Breakfast was in the dining room and was included in the price of the room. They had a couple of large buffet tables set up and also took your order for your main entree. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We truly felt like we were treated like royalty. It is in easy driving distance to the city of Clifden and Connemara national park.
