I speak Spanish and understand the culture. This "neighborhood" hotel was just right for me. Friendly staff, clean and "family" like type visitor. The room had a living area with sofa, table, mini-bar area with coffee pot. You can cross the street to buy snacks at a 24 hr OXXO. Good place, I would consider returning.

Everything was fine, the staff was very attentive and accommodating and let us leave our bags safely there as we arrived early and our room was not ready. We felt comfortable to then go and explore Cancun some before checking in. Ambiance was a nice hotel for downtown. If it was in the hotel zone it would be a 4.5 star hotel. Ambiance Suites 'on Tulum' was clean, comfortable and easily accessible. We wanted to emerse in the culture, not be a tourist in the hotel zone. This was perfect! Several inexpensive restaurants are close by. A convenience store and a bank are right across the street. Plaza de las Americas, the biggest mall in Cancun is a short walk; across very busy […] streets with no crosswalks to stop traffic. It is the norm so cross at your own risk! Taxis (negotiate 30 pesos max to anywhere downtown) and buses (they give change) abound passing the hotel. Buses (#2 & #15) to the hotel zone pick up 7 blocks north by the Office Depot. The #27 runs less often but comes by the hotel. Ask for a room NOT on the street side for a quieter stay. The small fridge has room for personal items but charges for what is in there. The coffee/tea is not free either although not noted on the check in brochure. We did not know this until check out. Oops! The free continental breakfast served in the restaurant consists of juice, coffee and toast. The hot water for showers is best acquired in the evening. Not sure why but being very humid while we were there, showering late was best. There is no desk lamp, only ceiling lights. The A/C fan filter in the closet kept flapping and our first night was unrestful. We wedged a piece of cardboard through the slats and all was calm for the rest of our stay. All in all, it was great for the price. We would stay there again as most things to the negative were minor. Read more

Everything was wonderful until we checked out and the hotel held us hostage for 1900 pesos (150 American) for a blanket they said we damaged and must be replaced. They would not show us the blanket nor give it to us and we had to pay or they would call the police. Never ever stay here!!!!!

We had some initial problems with the Wi-Fi in the room but the hotel called in their network IT technician as soon as we reported the problems and the issue was quickly resolved. One day we were charged for breakfast after not being charged for the past 6 days, but were reimbursed upon check out. It was an error of the restaurant. The spaciousness of the room along with the stone bathroom had the feel of a higher end hotel. I would not recommend staying here as a destination because it did not seem to be near beaches, or any resorts. The hotel is not a typical tourist hotel and probably more geared to the business, or mature traveller. Rooms are large and clean with excellent bathrooms and strong hot showers. Each has a sleeping, and sitting / dining area with microwave and fridge. Tulum Ave. is the main commercial street in Cancun so there is traffic but not too intrusive. Our room was at the back of the Hotel and was very peaceful. Breakfast was excellent value - cold buffet but plenty of food, fruits cereals, cold cuts, bread and coffee. Elena at the front desk was very helpful with advice on beaches etc. but all staff were friendly and pleasant. My only real complaint was the cable TV service which has limited English News coverage - CNN in English or BBC world is not available - but there are a limited number of English channels on a large flat screen TV. This is probably one of the best hotels located in the city of Cancun. My room was very clean and spatious. I ordered room service at night more than once during my stay and I was surprised by the good quality of the food. The service from the front desk staff was by all means excellent.
