The Blackman is a gorgeous, romantic, modern hotel. The staff was very helpful. The rooms are essentially studio apartments with a small kitchenette that's stocked with glasses, mugs, dishes, bowls, and cooking supplies. For people who only care to eat out while on vacation, this might not be a huge draw. But it does give you the option of walking to one of several nearby convenience stores or supermarkets and getting a box of […] cereal, milk, and ground coffee for the french press in the room. They provide dish soap, but there's also a small dishwasher you can use too. One thing that's unusual is that the snacks and drinks offered in their "minibar" are offered at fairly reasonable prices, so you don't feel like you're getting gouged if you need a snack in a pinch. Generally speaking, the rooms are much more spacious than a typical hotel room. There are only about 10-12 rooms per floor, kind of like living in a high-rise full of condos. Housekeeping does a great job of keeping the room and common areas clean. And if you feel like taking a longer trip outside the city, the hotel has a few SMART cars and scooters you can rent for the day (or by the hour for shorter trips). Basically, this is a highly recommended hotel if you like immersing yourself in a city while on vacation. Read more

The location of the hotel, about a 30 min walk or 10 minute tram ride from the CBD makes this hotel very reasonable for the quality. Even though its not in the CBD, it's still very convenient and relatively central. Rooms were great though the bathrooms were a bit small.

I booked this hotel several months ahead of the Australian Grand Prix and I'm glad I did. Even though I opted for the cheapest room they had, I was treated to a 17th floor (one from the top!) view to the northeast and a semi-private balcony. Just a few minutes from two different Albert Park gates, it sure was nice to be near the track while everyone […] else is stuffing themselves into trams or taxis. The hotel even loaned me an umbrella on the days it rained. The room came extremely well-fitted and included an iron, ironing board, full set of dishes and cooking utensils, even a dishwasher! The fridge and nearby counter had a selection of beers, wines, and snacks for the expected hotel prices. The bathroom could do with more counter space, but the fixtures are excellent and very artsy, which is fitting for the room. The shower was excellent, though the glass door is not designed to seal at the bottom, so put the provided towel down to prevent soaking the area by the sink. Downstairs just off the lobby features a pair of restaurants. Fleur is a breakfast and light lunch place. The food was good, but the service was sometimes lacking. Classico is an italian-themed formal restaurant and the food and service there was excellent. The best part about this hotel? It's good enough for F1 personalities, so it's good enough for me. F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi and Geoff Willis, Technical Director for HRT were staying there as well, and so was Niki Lauda. The hotel was very nice, very clean and contemporary. There are 2 restaurants on site- one french and one italian. The french restaurant was very good, we never ate at the italian one. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. We had our daughter and had two queen beds. The layout for the two queen rooms was interesting- the bathroom was in the […] middle of the room so it separated our bed area from hers and her bed even had a curtain to pull around it. Also, there were flat screen tv's mounted on the wall in front of both beds. The room had a spacious balcony and lots of closet and drawer space. I highly recommend this hotel. The only draw back is that it is off the beaten path so you must take the tram to the populated tourist spots. However, it is a very short tram ride to Prahran and Federation Square and there is a tram stop less than a 5 min walk from the hotel. This is a fabulous new hotel with a wonderful, attentive staff and beautiful rooms. Have you ever been to a hotel with many, thick coffee table artbooks in the room? Or attention to design at every turn? My only complaint is that the bathroom is quite small. I would have sacrificed a bit of the room space for a larger bathroom.

This is a great hotel to stay in. The staff and service are excellent, the rooms are clean, large and bright. The cafe and restaurant downstairs are convenient, reasonably priced and the food is good. There is a tram stop nearby, or the city center is about a 25 minute walk away.

I love The Blackman. Great modern rooms. Laundry facilities for doing some mid-trip washing. Excellent location just put of the Downtown/CBD area which means it is is easy to get around by tram or car. The Depot de Pain cafe on the ground floor is fantastic and do great coffee and breakfasts. Have tried other hotels but keep coming back here.

The Blackman is a comfortable apart/hotel not far from the CBD. Plenty of trams go by and on a fine day it’s a comfortable 20- 30 mins walk. My studio room was well appointed allowing for some self catering if one chooses. There is a restaurant and cafe next door if you want to dine out by the hotel. I tried the cafe for breakfast and the quality, price […] and service was good. Only criticism is the cost of internet access. Unlike many European, Asian and North America hotels where access is free at least in the public areas, Australian hotels seem to charge exorbitant price for this service – in the case of the Blackman it was $3.50 per hour or $9.95 for 24 hours. The hotel was in the business district which may not suit everyone, however, it was close to the tram stop to get into the city (10 mins) but away from the hustle and bustle. This was the last hotel stay for us and our teen daughter after four weeks travelling round the world. The Blackman was perfect and easily the best hotel we stayed in during the trip. The only small negative would be charging for internet access (nowhere else we stayed charged). The room layout and facilities were excellent.
