"tons of stairs, small rooms"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 21, 2012
and loud. you can hear when people get out of the bar and street traffic. There is an elevator but you stil have stairs to get to your room.

It's a bit further removed from the center of town, but close to Quayside, Northumbria University, and well within walking distance for those who don't mind a short stroll. The subway is also nearby, within a 7-10 minute walk. This hotel ranks very high in all respects, and is perfect for both singles and small families. We will definitely stay here during our next visit to Newcastle.
"Hotel Marriott Metro Center Gateshead"Reviewed by Eileen W of "Ohio, USA" on Jan 7, 2012
Only stayed for one night on 1st January and the restaurant was closed although they did serve food in the bar. The leisure center also closed early so we were not able to try this. The room was comfortable and parking was free. The hotel is very well situated for Metro Center shopping and there are other restaurants nearby.

"best experience"Reviewed by Kirk M of "Renton, WA" on Dec 10, 2011
I have the best experience that you could have - staying here. The staff was ALWAYS friendly and helpful. The HOTEL was awesome - even with the creaky floor - I guess after 250 years of use, the floor can be creaky. The hotel was clean, and the room spacious. The dining facilities was awesome. The food and service 5 star quality. There was nothing in the service to criticize. Will stay anytime I am in Darlington, as they could not be beat for their QUALITY..

"Gorgeous hotel, great staff and reasonable prices"
The hotel needs a wee face lift though....
"Fantastic service - shame about the room!"
We booked in for a double superior room - unfortunately as we were going to be later than the expected arrival time of 8:30 at night, we rang ahead and without any fuss the staff were able to arrange for two lovely steaks with diane sauce to be prepared - the food was excellent and the service was second to none. The room left a lot to be desired - […] whilst the hotel itself looks stunning and is wlel maintained downstairs, the room was pretty poor - rather unclean shower with some mildew, the bed was also pretty small for a double. No obvious way to adjust the central heating radiator. As we were leaving pretty early on, I asked the previous evening if we would be able to have something to take with us as we left at 7am - the chef was there and made a full cooked breakfast so again, the service was second to none. I would have given a full five stars but sadly the room really left us wanting and didn't match the high standards set by the staff themselves. Read more
"Hardwicke Hall - could have been better"
I has 2 nights at the Hardwicke Hall, its an ok hotel. Hot water takes an age to come through for the shower - don't be fooled if its hot in the sink - must be a different circuit - they must have a massive water bill - easiest in the morning to get up turn it on then go for a 10 minute snooze..... Bistro wasn't great either, ordered a starter, a main […] and a side order - 2 were wrong. Read more

"Hotels near to Seaham"
I travel quite a lot with work, and stay in many hotels throughout the year. Ordinarily, I stick to the main hotel companies, but sometimes I need to be geographically nearer to my next appointment, I'll stay in a privately ran hotel. I arrived at Hardwicke Hall Manor very late on a Monday night. The hotel was easily found, well signposted from the […] road, and well lit for a country retreat. I was welcomed by a memeber of the staff, who had a cheery smile and a lovely disposition. I was guided through to reception, whereby I was provided with my keys, without the usual rigmarole of endless paperwork, questions and credit card swipes. I had missed dinner, and the kitchen had closed (10.00pm) but they offered to provide me with a sandwich if that would suffice. I gratefully agreed and dropped my bag off in my room. The room itself was enormous, with probably the biggest bed i have ever seen, never mind slept in. There was a sepwerate area with a sofa and TV etc, plus an adjoining en-suite bath, shower and WC. The room was clean and well maintained. I returned to the bar, where the largest plate of warm roast beef sanwiches were served. In some ways I am glad the kitchen was closed. The sandwiches were lovely. All of the staff were pleasnat and helpful, with a lovely warm surrounding. Breakfast was fantastic, no cheap bacon and sausages, and freshly cooked to order. All in all, a lovely place to stay, and I certainly will do again. Read more
"Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel"
Very nice food and attentive staff, large bedroom and grand settings. Well worth a visit
"Hardwicke Hall: Very pleasant surprise"
I needed a hotel close to Hartlepool for work in the centre. Normally you'll find me in one of the chains, but I liked the sound of the name, so booked on the offchance. The view of the grounds as I drove in was wonderful and a lot of effort has gone into their upkeep. The staff were helpful from reception, and the public rooms were friendly and comfortable. Open […] fires are always a plus in a vintage hotel like this, but on the day I arrived we were having a bit of a heatwave and they weren't strictly needed. We ate in the hotel in the evening and the food was genuinely excellent.. The room was quiet and comfortable, even though I hadn't booked one of the 'fancy' rooms. Breakfast was large, hot, and great quality. (You can always tell by the quality of the sausages!!) Well done owners.. I'll be back here like a shot if I am again in the area. Read more

"Comfortable"
The hotel is a beautiful old building. There is even a bee keeping site on the land. The rooms are somewhat old fashioned, however, it was very clean. What set this hotel apart was the staff, who couldn’t do enough for me. I was travelling on business and had limited time for breakfast (breakfast started at 7 and I had to leave at 7:15) so they checked […] me out while I was eating breakfast to ensure that I left on time. I ordered room service the night before and was offered the full restaurant menu, unlike other hotels where you are given a limited menu. The food was delicious in the evening and at breakfast. I would definitely stay again and would recommend for short breaks or business travel. Read more
