Strathearn Hotel - Kirkcaldy

My family, a party of 8 spent 2 nights at the Strathearn August 17 & 18, 2011. Our focus was to visit the Edinburgh area and attent the Royal Military Tatoo. We found the Strathearn on Hotels.Com after our travel agent was unable to find rooms for our party in Edinburgh for in the price range we were looking for. The hotel is located in a quite area […] of Kirkcaldy, away from town and has plenty of free on-site parking. The staff at the Strathearn were great and the owner was present and went out of her way to ensure that our needs were met. One member of our party was staying in Europe after our return to the U.S.and required her clothing to be washed. When a trip to town was unsuccessful in locating a laundry, the owner made arrangements for the laundry to be done while we attented the Tattoo in Edinburgh and then waited until the late evening for our return to the hotel to return the clean clothes. The location of the hotel was nice, a park less than a block away was a great place to walk and the hotel was less than one hour away from St. Andrews. Read more

This Hotel is similar to a bed and breakfast. It is very charming and the employees are friendly and helpful. Also, the food is pretty good with a bit of local flair. All this being said, I probably would not stay there again. I was mislead into thinking there was wireless internet available--there is NO internet at all. Also, the ad said it was about […] 15 miles--that is probably "as the crow flies". It is 40 minutes from Edinburgh. We had to pay 60 pounds for a taxi from the airport and the train fare is about 21 pounds per person one way--plus you have to pay a taxi to the train station. Read more

Breakfast was cold . Didn't appear to be well managed at all . On arrival our room had been given to somebody else, always felt we had been given a lesser room , wedding taking place that evening our room was directly over the disco banging music drove us mad. Wouldn't stay there again

nice hotel with character, it has a great outlook. I booked a single room at the last minute and it was a nice clean room, breakfast was great, overall excellent value for money.

Good location but that was about it! On arrival we were met by the chef who gave us our keys. The room was dated with a bed that creaked with every movement. No hot water out of the taps or the shower. Breakfast was nice.

lOVELY HOTEL VERY CLEAN AND FRIENDLY STAFF. THE MANAGERESS WAS VERY THOUGHFUL AND THEIR EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE DECOR OF THE HOTEL IS FIRST CLASS. WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL .

Initially we were pleased with the customer service, as we phoned ahead to say we would be early and this posed no problem as the room was ready. We were travelling back into Edinburgh for the rugby and this helped us, on return however we were hungry, the info in the room said last meal orders were to be made by 2030, to be fair we were as close as […] it gets but were told all the equipment had been turned off, so we had to go out and find somewhere, which is not great when you have no local knowledge. On arrival we were told that there was a wedding taking place and that it would be going on well into the night, no problem we thought as I am sure they would not put guests not involved too close to the event rooms, wrong we were right above, we were so pleased when the music cranked up with Congratulations by Cliff Richard, thankfully it did cease around midnight, maybe they should warn in advance if such events are taking place. In the morning we went for breakfast as it was included in the price of the room , we waited for 10 mins and nobody came to us despite tables being cleared around us, if there were other guests before us then fine but the others in there were tucking in to their hearty fayre, we left as after the night before I was a little rattled at the service. On a final note the hotel is a fantastic building with a great interior however the rooms especially the en-suite need updating, showering in a cubicle with melomine sides and a dodgy shower curtain was interesting to say the least. My wife and I stayed at the Strathearn Hotel this week and have mixed feelings, whilst the hotel was clean and food was good, had a few problems, our room was very small, the shower had a bad leak from the shower tray and the bed squeaked everytime you moved, also we went out first morning for the day and returned to see that the maid had left the door […] open and only left 1 replacement clean towel, I spoke to one of the staff about the door being open all day and their response was “we had a new assistant for the maid, I will tell them they must close the door after them", not once was there an apology or an enquiry if all our stuff was ok, seams that there was a lack of staff on duty at times, no we would not stay there again Room Tip: we had room 22, try another one may be better Read more

We satayed at the Strathearn Hotel for one night to attend a function being held there. Apart from the hiccough on check-in, we found everything was good, especially the freshly-cooked breakfast.

Struttura molto bella. Camera grandissima, sembrava di stare in un castello. Ottimo per le famiglie con bambini piccoli...noi eravamo una coppia ed una bambina di 1 anno.
