Ad Place - Venice

What a charming and lovely little hotel! We visited on our honeymoon and this place just set the mood for a romantic stay in Venice. The majority of the staff were rude and appeared bothered to be doing their job, such a disappointment. However, the only exception would be Alesandro with whom we had an exceptional experience with. He went above and […] beyond to help us find attractions and transportation, even giving us restaurant recommendations for our stop in Florence. We thoroughly enjoyed our room located just off the main lobby, our window opened to a small canal and we would wake in the morning to the singing of the gondolas going by and the church bells on Sunday. The hotel was easy walking distance of all the main sites and just a minutes walk to the vaporetto stop. Breakfast was average with coffee, tea, orange juice, meats and pastries. The terrace on the top floor was beautiful at sunset , however for those who aren't lucky enough to get a room off the lobby there is no lift so be prepared to go up a couple flights of stairs. I cannot put into words how amazing this hotel is. Not only is the location prime (just steps to the vapporetto and minutes to St. Mark's), but the staff is extremely helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay at Ad Place very much. From our arrival to our departure they couldn't have been more helpful. On arrival our bags were taken from the taxi into the hotel. Check-in took only a couple of minutes. The hotel is in a 500 year old "palace" that is protected as a historic site. Many elements of the original building have been preserved. […] There was an amply sized bathroom with a tub/shower and a bidet. Down the hall was the main room with a king bed with a surrounding canopy, a lovely touch. The room was spotless. It was not overly large but quite adequate. The breakfast (included) room was on the first floor and fruit, cookies, coffee or espresso, and tea were always available. Breakfast included an array of continental breakfast items plus scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from San Marco Square with easy access to other parts of the city. The staff was extremely helpful with sightseeing and restaurant advice. Check-out was effortless and our bags were taken out to the water taxi when it arrived. This was one of my most pleasant hotel experiences ever. Read more

I got downgraded the first night of our stay - to the tiniest room in the hotel (adjacent to the breakfast room giving it a fresh cooked bacon smell around 6:45am in the morning) - and upgraded the second night - to one of their largest rooms they called a jr. suite but it had a full two rooms, where I come from that's called a suite. When booking, know that the smallest room is tight, but not unmanageable (still room for a desk, minibar and closet and a hallway to store your bags) and the bathroom in both the rooms are about the same size. The team at the front desk is outstanding! Venice is complicated to navigate but these people are very helpful (and also very attractive). It's walking distance to San Marco, Rialto and L'Academia bridges. They have a unique, charming two-seater mini-patio where you can drink wine while gondolas pass by. Read more

Throughout the night loud banging noises from the heating system kept us up. When we called the reception at 2am all they did was turn our heating off, but it was the heating from another room which ran through our room that was making the noise. The room also needs redecorating as the walls were becoming grubby and worn.

The Ad Place hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from St Marks Square but its location beside a little backwater canal is calm, peaceful and off the main tourist drag. I was staying in a Superior Single room which was definitely on the small side but well furnished- my only criticism is that the carpet was a bit stained but that didn't really bother […] me as to be honest I spent very little time in my room. The bed was comfortable (mattress slightly on the firm side) and the quiet location and thick curtains ensure a good night's sleep. The bathroom was great- very clean and stylish and with a really brilliant shower (and I'm quite hard to please in the shower department- its one of the main criteria I judge hotels by!) My other very important criterion is the breakfast and again Ad Place scored very highly. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10.30 and includes 2 kinds of eggs, bacon, a variety of meats and cheeses, cereals, fruit, yogurts and a large choice of bread, cakes and pastries. There is a juicer to squeeze your own juice and a great coffee machine. Hot drinks, fruit and pastries are also available in the breakfast room throughout the day, which is a nice touch. Finally I must mention the brilliant staff- very friendly and unfailingly helpful. They even improvised a pair of bin bag waders for me when the exceptionally high tide caused flooding on the day of my departure. I hope to return to Venice and if I do I will definitely stay at this hotel again. Read more

We spent four nights at Ad Place. It sounded good from the published details on the Internet and certainly lived up to expectations. The room (Giugno) was not large but really nicely furnished, with a window looking down onto a small canal - with the bathroom window looking down onto an adjoining canal. A regular part of the entertainment was a procession […] of gondolas down below, complete with operatic favourites on accordion or sung by a tenor. Breakfast was excellent, a good variety of fresh fruit, squeezing your own orange or grapefruit juice, cold meats, cheeses, yogurts (not the usual plastic pots), bread and pastries, together with eggs and bacon. Pastries and coffee or tea were available all day in the lounge/breakfast room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving good recommendations for restaurants, advising on check-in and journey times, and checking us in online and printing our boarding passes. The hotel has a great location, between St Mark's Square and Accademia bridge, and only 5 minutes walk from Giglio vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. Read more

Our stay at AD Place was truly amazing. We got upgraded to the junior suite which was breathtaking-the window opens up to a small canal & we could watch gondolas go past our window all day! Ad Place is located very centrally in Venice, with Piazza San Marco being only about ten minutes away by foot. The staff were uniformly helpful and efficient. The desk staff were fluent in English (but spoke in Italian to me, as I was keen to practise my spoken Italian!). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff were welcoming, friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The lovely man working on reception when we arrived gave us a map and marked out a number of nice places to eat and advised on places we wanted to visit. He then showed us to the breakfast room where we were able to have a coffee and cake before […] unpacking. Hot drinks and biscuits are available all day which is great. Hotel was initially a little difficult to find but the welcome was wonderful. Room was lovely and looked out onto the canal, which was great for listening to passiing tenors serenading couples on the gondolas. This hotel has a fantastic location, very close to St Mark's Square and in five minutes' walk of the Grand Canal. Staff were very friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations. Our room was large, clean, modern and beautifully furnished with a separate seating area and a fab view onto a side-canal that has lots of gondoliers going past singing […] - a really magical experience. Breakfast was buffet-style with lots of choice and went on until 10.30am which was great for a relaxing break. Wi-fi worked well and was fast. I thought the location, atmosphere and value for money were great. If I were forced to make any criticisms, and they would be minor, it's that there weren't many tables for breakfast so if it's busy you might have to wait a few minutes (there's a sofa area so it's not exactly a hardship, it just seems a bit silly not to have a few more tables rather than the sofa!) and we weren't given any info about little things like how to access the free wi-fi, where and when breakfast would be so we had to ask. Title says it all; just superb. Great location for all the major (and minor) sights all accessible within 20 mins walk. Hotel receptionists all very polite, friendly and knowledgeable, they bend over backwards to help out; Alessandro deserves a particular mention. Room was of a good size, VERY comfortable bed and a HUGE bathroom all contributed to a very comfortable stay. Ideally suited to couples or single travelers young or old, however, a family was accommodated whilst we were there.
