Nimrod Resort Apartments - Port Douglas

Loraine and Bryan were most congenial hosts. The gardens are beautiful and the pool unique in design. Walking distance to the beach wonderful. Port Douglas was close enough for convenience, but far enough for quiet and peace.

This apartment complex is very close to the beach, within 2 blocks, but about 4 miles from downtown Port Douglas. Clean, spacious, comfortable 2 bedroom with spacious kitchen, stove, fridge, microwave, washer/dryer. Quiet neighbors and beautiful pool area. Would recommend. Very spacious, 2-bedroom with ac, washer dryer, clean. But by no means felt luxurious, and a number of basic items (shampoo, dish soap, detergent, garbage bags) aren't provided, beach towels are for rent. We had mixed feelings about the owners. They were friendly enough, but the answer to everything was "read the brochures." We didn't follow their […] advice and were glad. At Kuranda only do the cable car -- the village itself is a tourist trap, not worth much time, and you can catch the bus back for $4! We had a great trip to the outer reef which they were advising against in favor of the low isles cruise. We went to Mossman Gorge on their advice, but in retrospect wish we'd gone straight to Daintree. The location is not ideal, we drove to town. The beach, an easy walk, has "warning crocodiles do not swim" signs. While they giggled at this and said that they aren't too active in winter, we still didn't return to the beach. I suspect Port Douglas is quite special if you stay in the fancy resorts, but at Nimrod it felt very ordinary. On the other hand at the restaurant Beach Shack, right around the corner and much recommended by them, we had the best meals we'd had in Australia, superior to our visit to one fancy Italian place in town. All in all a lovely trip, highlights were Kuranda cable car, GBR trip (despite "stormy" seas and overcast), dinners at Beach Shack, Daintree, and taking pictures of all the danger signs (crocs, cassowaries, electric ants, oh my). 1. You are better off spending the same amount of money at another resort for all the extra $ you need to spend anyway. They charge for everything including power for bbq, lights and lights even on the tennis court if you want to play. 1. Rubbish had to be taken out and walked all the way down to the front entrance which for us was a long way away […] from the room and not good after dinner when dark. I actually drove down instead as there were people walking around and i had no idea if they were safe or not. If you did not clear your rubbish they charge a cleaning fee of atleast $50 if left on checkout. 2. You could have no visitors at all unless they were in your room. So we could not have a bbq dinner with my sister and kids as they were not allowed in bbq area, pool or kids playground. 3. Airconditioner - not allowed to put below 24c. I would have only gone down to 22c but still that would have made a difference .... I would hate to see what it is like in there in summer. The airconditioners in bedrooms do not cool enough at all. 4. TV - reception kept dropping out so we were constantly not being able to watch shows at night. DVD player was also broken so that was out. 5. You dont get any service at all unless you stay 10 days is terrible for the price you pay. Especially when you need to wash towels yourself and they do not supply any laundry detergent. They did supply 1 packet of dish washing detergent which again was only for one use. We had a lovely apartment,with one bedroom, lounge room,dining room, good sized bathroom, and every day we sat out on our back patio to have breakfast, morning or afternoon tea overlooking the rainforest. Very relaxing I must say. My children and I stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment. It was spacious, had a DVD player and balconies to all bedrooms. 1 bedroom adjoined a two way bathroom and there was a 2nd toilet. The kitchen was well equipped. Linen was clean. The bath tub and vanities were not cleaned and the kitchen floor was dirty under the fridge. The pool and spa were OK. I thought the units were in the 'well used' area and could do with a little more care and attention. The rate paid for the unit reflects this and was very reasonable, although a better description in the advertising would help. Very helpful and happy operators.

We were a little surprised arriving at check-in time (2pm) to find that the Reception Office was closed and our key was enclosed in an envelope affixed to a table at the front, along with other guests' keys. We were expecting a warmer (including the weather!) welcome! The apartment was clean, spacious and comfortable. There is an air-conditioner in […] the lounge and another in the bedroom. The ceiling fans in the lounge were a bit temperamental but we eventually managed to get them working adequately. Situated off the main road yet still close enough to the centre (approx 10 min drive) enabled a good night's rest even though the mattress was a bit on the hard side. this was a last minute choice, and we were really surprised how nice it was great for families, the only downer was they only give you basic supplies so when you run out you have to replenish yourself. really nice appartment and pool/bbq area. would go back.

Stayed in the Deluxe room, was comfortable but could do with a dusting. Pool and grounds were well kept and very nice. If you are only staying for a few days be sure to bring your own dishwasher powder / washing up liquid / washing powder, so you don't need to buy a whole bottle when you get there. We booked 2 nights at Nimrod, and could've stayed 2 weeks. The rooms are large and very spacious, with a well appointed kitchen, large lounge room, and washer and dryer (very handy!). Beds were super comfy, and there was plenty of room for us to relax while the kids played. And *gasp* there's a full dining table, so meals don't have to be in front of […] the tv. Outdoors, the grounds are immaculately kept, with a gorgeous pool. There's a kid's pool which was just perfect for our 2 little girls to play in, and the playground was great too. It might be a little bit outside the town centre for those on foot, but as we had our own car it was perfect. Quiet location, a couple of minutes walk to the beach, with the best fish and chip shop just around the corner. IGA supermarket is 2 minutes drive away, as is the Wildlife Habitat (a must do, if you're in Port!). I would definitely recommend this for families - we've stayed in lots of more expensive places before, and this was by far the best place we've been to with the kids. All appliances in place, especially the aircon. Room condition is good. Location is handy with a car, walking distance to the IGA supermarket and four mile beach. Nice swimming pool. Very friendly on-site managers The LCD TV is bit small and doesn't have the right inputs/cables for playing both DVD and SkyTV.

Apartment very well appointed with all cooking gear etc, huge TV. Even a chilli bin and plastic container for going on picnics. Grounds really really nice, and the children loved the swimming pool and the tennis court. Managers very friendly and helpful. Very quiet pleasant neighbourhood. Yes, the resort is a little way out of town but not a problem […] if you have a car. Also there is a local superette just up the road for supplies, and beach access just at the end of the road - a couple of minutes walk. Only grumble is that the apartment could have been supplied with a little cleaning gear (had mop, broom etc but no cleaning liquids). We stayed 11 days and it was not serviced during that time, so it would have been nice to be able to spray the benches down properly, wash the floor etc. Would certainly stay there again and recommend to others.
