Citadines Kyoto Karasuma-Gojo - Kyoto

After just a few nights at the hotel, my wife and I where seriously considering changing our plans to head to Osaka and finnish up the rest of our trip in Kyoto at the Citadines.Top notch staff, and great modern feel along with a location that is close to shopping and some of the best dining in Kyoto.

This hotel is conveniently located, with a very helpful staff. Upon check in we were given very good tips on transportation, dining, and nearby tourist spots. The hotel room was adequately sized compared to other typical Japanese business type hotels in this price range. The subway stop is steps from the door, and bus lines at the corner of the nearby […] intersection. The room was quiet, with full kitchen and a small refrigerator that added to the convenience. Perhaps the only small drawback was the limited drawer space for clothing in the twin studio room we occupied. We definitely would seek out this hotel on our next trip to Kyoto. I travel to Kyoto twice a year and usually stay at the Hotel Monterey, which I also did on this recent trip. I decided to stay in Kyoto for a few extra days and was only able to get a room at the Citadines. Although the staff were very friendly and the hotel was clean, I was disappointed. I spent three nights in the hardest bed I have ever slept in! […] Indeed, it was so hard that I could barely sleep at all. This is coming from someone who is not especially picky about beds and when tired can pretty much fall asleep in any bed. The location was not great either. It is in a 'ghost town' part of Gojo. I love the Monterey because there are so many coffee shops and restaurants around the hotel. It can feel pretty isolating. Finally, the lobby area is so dark that it is like being in a cave. Not that the lobby is really all that important. A good choice for friendly service, but I much prefer the comfortable bed at the Monterey and the superior location. Read more

We stayed in the Citadines Kyoto for three nights in Oct. 2012 and had a terrific experience. It is located one subway stop north from the Kyoto JR Train station and was easy to find near the McDonalds and across the street from a 7/11. The lobby was amazing, well designed and clean. The room had everything we needed, from a small kitchenette with fridge […] and microwave, to free in-room wifi (and it was fast). There are some restaurants nearby, but the downtown area is about a 15-20 min walk or one subway stop away. My wife and I are big walkers, so it was a fair compromise considering the exorbitant rates some of the places in the Gion district charge. The staff spoke English and were quite helpful in answering all our needs. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again the next time we visit Kyoto. Read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Citadines Kyoto in a non-smoking double. It was the most generous-sized room we stayed in during our trip to Japan, and a good price. The room was very clean and modern, and the staff helpful. I would go back.

We extended our stay in Kyoto and were pleased the hotel could accommodate us at short notice. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. The staff helpful and friendly. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance and a reasonable supermarket on the same block. WiFi in the rooms was also very useful. Our only minor issue was from noisey neighbours […] who liked to talk loudly in the corridor just outside our door. Would hope we can return to Kyoto and still have as comfortable a stay next time. This is a great hotel. Excellent location, although it is located on a major road. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to request a room at the back, which unfortunately, gets very little light. The room was very spacious by Japanese standard. As this is an apart-hotel, there is a kitchenette and a sitting area in my studio. They recommended that I go to this buckwheat noodles restaurant, which turned out to be the best buckwheat noodles I have ever had. Not to be missed. The hotel was great. Extremely clean and extremely comfortable. It is a convenient 5o yard walk from the Gojo metro station which was just one stop north of the main Kyoto station. It was also about a 10 minute walk from the JR station to the east. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

This is a great apart-hotel. I’ve stayed here before and would do so again. But, as I discovered on this last trip, some of the rooms face the wall of an adjoining building--so closely that it’s difficult to tell the time of day.

Great 6 night stay. Very friendly staff, convenient location - Gojo Station only metres from front entrance; or 10 minute walk to Tower area, rooms very clean and spacious (after 5 weeks travel in Europe). The Citadines is located in the middle of the city making it very convenient. There is a subway exit about 50 feet from the hotel entrance and bus stops are within 100 yards. So if you're using public transportation it is convenient. There is also a Seven Eleven across the street and a McDonalds (we had breakfast there) on the corner of the street. […] There are a couple of other restaurants (Coco Curry House) within 75 feet of the hotel so food is not a problem when you come back to the hotel after a long day of sight seeing. These restaurants all have meals for under 1000yen. The front desk and lobby are situated so the staff sees everyone coming and going and greet you every time you pass by. This is good because it makes the hotel safe, but you also feel like you're being watched when coming and going. The rooms are comfortable, average sized for a hotel room in Japan and since the Citadines is referred to as an Apart Hotel, meaning it has apartments and hotel rooms, they ask if you require maid service. There is a laundry room in the basement along with a breakfast lounge. Our stay in Japan was for two weeks so the laundry room came in handy. The Citadines won't impress in facilities but it's a clean and basic hotel, not bad for the price. Pretty decent for a family vacation. Read more

I can't recommend the Citadines highly enough. Great rooms, small, but very efficient. Our room had a small kitchen with dishes, sink, microwave, and small fridg. Great for a long term stay. I didn't explore the area much on foot - there is a convenience store across the street, but other than that, I can't really say much about the surrounding area. […] The staff all speak english very well which is always a plus. The rooms are super clean and so nicely decorated. The only caveat is that there is some noise from the floor above, but not bad enough to keep you awake. The Citidines Kyoto was a very good place for our 5 days in Kyoto. The rooms were spacious (the largest of any during our stay in Japan), they had everything I needed, and the staff was very helpful (and spoke English). This luxury apartment hotel is located one metro stop or 15-min walk from the train station which made it very convenient to get to and from. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. The only issue was the small size of the room and bathroom (that's why I'm giving it 4 for comfort), but that's normal for Japan. This hotel was everything we could have asked for. Quite new with modern decor. The room was very spacious and comfortable. I am very impressed by the staff at Citadines, Kyoto as they took the initiative to send our luggages to our rooms (all my other hotels in Japan never do that). In addition, they also speak good english which aided us in our travel plans. I really like the deco of the lobby and when I stepped into the room, it was of a good size. This hotel was in the top 5 I have ever stayed at in my life....and I've traveled the world. Awesome staff, great location, fantastic a/c (temps were over 100 deg. F during our stay), clean, clean, clean, well designed, very functional, new and a stellar value for the cost. This place was so quiet we overslept 2 days in a row! The neighborhood had a […] 24hr grocery store, 7-11, post office, bike rental, bank with an ATM that worked with USA debit cards, all within a few blocks of the hotel. I have asthma and was ecstatic about the non-smoking hotel status, I NEVER smelled cigarette or cigar smoke. I was working through a neck injury during the trip so I don't think it would be fair to downgrade them on the pillows, but an upgrade to the pillows would give me one more thing to brag on them about. Some elements that others may not like but did not matter in the least to me or my husband were, no view (not a city with a great skyline anyway & we were not there for that), no pool (who cares I'm not there to swim), no gold, brass or chandeliers (go to the Ritz if that's what lights your fire).......hhhhmmmmm.......can't think of much else. We stayed at another Citadines in Tokyo-Shinjuku and were just as pleased. This is our first experience with Accor/Citadines and we will continue to seek out and stay at these hotels whenever possible in our travels. Read more

This is a GREAT hotel. Normally I stay in 4 or 5 star hotels and I like elegance, simplicity and service. Citadines has the air of a 4 star hotel with apartment-like conveniences.
