This was the most amazing hidden gem in Firenze! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the customer service was amazing! Amillio at the bar was knowledgable and polite, and Aldo and Ray in the Ristorante were kind and personable. We had a weekend of rain and spent a majority of the time at the hotel just wondering around admiring the antiques, […] history, and artifacts of the 900 year old building. It is very close to the Center of Firenze which they provide a free shuttle service which i reccomend since the parking is few and far between. The location is excellent: close enough to Florence to enable easy access to the city but far enough away to enable on-site parking and easy access to the highways for exploring Tuscany. The breakfast offering was excellent: lots of fresh breads, pastries, cereal, juice, cold cuts, etc. In fact, of the 5 different hotels we stayed in during our trip to Italy, this was by far the best breakfast. The address listed was not available in the rental car GPS. It read 119 when actually it was 121, which made all the difference. We stayed in the Mulino di Firenze for 5 nights - and it was by far our favorite hotel during our recent trip to Italy. The brilliant and creative owners converted a centuries-old water mill on the Arno into a B&B while maintaining much of the original integrity. From the high ceilings with the exposed beams to the heavenly bed with sparkling white […] linens we loved every waking - and sleeping - moment. And the hotel's restaurant is so good it was a tough decision to go elsewhere for dinner! The front desk personnel - Antonia, Beatrice, and the other clerks - treated us like family. Our first day in Florence my husband's wallet was stolen and we were very upset when we returned to the hotel. But the staff helped us get through the task of calling our banks and credit card companies - and Franco the maitre d' sent Rey (waiter extraordinaire) to our room with our dinner on a tray. Some guests have complained about the distance from town but we loved escaping to the countryside after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel provides shuttle service - but we also enjoyed taking the bus from the village, Nave a Rovezzano, a 10-minute walk from the hotel. What a great way to capture the local color. Mulino di Firenze is outside of the city and about a 25 euro ride there. We used it as a base for driving through Tuscany, Cinque Terre and the areas, and it was wonderful to get back there at the end of a long day. The food and prices are excellent. The first room we were in had issues with a fan that went all night...so the manager changed our room the next day... The visitors and staff were all friendly. Our friends tried to order lunch when they checked in at 3pm ,and the hotel hesitantly made a sandwich that wasn't very good and then made sure they understood that lunch was over at 3pm. We had an upgraded "river "room off the walkway into the hotel which I found had a lack privacy.The room was very small with a small window off set in the room, overlooking the river and waterfall. The bathroom is of good size with all the amenities accept no bath hooks to hang robes and toiletry bags plus terrible lighting and the bathtub backed up when we took showers. Some highlights of the stay were the breakfast,the bartender Emilio and the close vacinity to the central sites without being right in it. Drawbacks were the shuttle schedule to the city, the front desk staff , size ,decor and lighting in rooms. It just seem to be missing something, though very charming and clean and slightly upscale I expected more. So much for trying something new. Read more

Resort type hotel with a beautiful view of the Arno River cascading over a dam from our room. A large room with a large bath; everything was new and shiny. Absolutely the best breakfast included with a room I've ever had. Prosciutto ham, eggs, bacon, tortes, magnificent breads; jam or chocolate-filled croissants, rolls, multiple juices and of course, […] coffees. The dining room was professionally staffed and the food was excellent in the evening also. It was a good value. Everyone on the staff was helpful and friendly. My only negative was the difficulty getting to the hotel. They ran a free shuttle into town between 9 and 11 in the AM and brought you back between 5:30 and 7:30 PM. If you stayed late seeing the sites or ate diner out, you need to include taxi fare getting back in the evening as a cost of staying there. It ran about 20-25 euros from the train station. The bus was fine to take you into town in the morning, but dicey getting back. You need to catch #23B, but the bus is only labeled #23 while it is downtown. The 23A goes nowhere near the hotel. I didn't run into a single taxi driver that didn't know where it was. I was pleased with the room and the hotel and felt it was an excellent value. Read more

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Mulino di Firenze to when we sadly had to leave, we were more than satisfied with our choice to stay there. We were greeted by smiling faces (who all spoke English, thank goodness) and were willing and able to fulfil all our requests quickly after our arrival. We entered our room after walking through a courtyard […] area and were pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of the room. With big ceilings and plenty of extra room for our suitcases, we felt as though we were in a luxurious but quaint hotel. The bathroom was larger than expected and nicely lined with marble (and also a heated towel rack!). We immediately felt relaxed by the atmosphere the hotel exudes. The hotel is a bit far from downtown but the shuttle has perfect times for a nice day in Florence (leaves at 9 or 10 and departs from the National Library at 530 or 630). We took the shuttle everyday which was incredibly convenient. We would come back and relax either in the private sauna and turkish bath (which you reserve the day before for an hour) and then head to dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was incredible and we ended up eating there every night! We also scheduled massages with Sabrina (amazing!!). The service was incredible - they brought a bottle of wine to our room and we drank in the back courtyard overlooking the river. The scenery is gorgeous - it is the perfect mix of countryside feel and closeness to Florence. We would 100% stay here again! Read more

This was the most beautiful, tranquil, high quality hotel that I've stayed at (beating the Ritz Carlton by leaps and bounds). It was a challenge to get to because our GPS did not properly locate the address (we were told "you are at your destination" when we very clearly were not) and had to ask at another hotel how to get to this hotel. Once there, […] however, the staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious, beautifully appointed and welcoming. The scenery surrounding the hotel is beautiful and relaxing and it was enjoyable to sit out by the pool and get some sun. I will say that the pool itself was startlingly cold (even at the end of summer when we were there), but you certainly could not say that it wasn't refreshing. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and offered a wide assortment of pastries and fruit as well as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and cold cuts. The white wine served at the bar (upon recommendation of the very engaging and friendly bartender) was delicious and a very good recommendation. We did not eat dinner at the evening buffet, however, upon arrival we had sandwiches from the bar and later, lasagne from the bar, both of which were very good. In fact the lasagne I had at the hotel was much better than lasagne I had in Florence on a different day. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this hotel. We went to the Mulino di Firenze on our honeymoon and I couldn't have asked for a better hotel experience. The complimentary buffet breakfast in the morning was brilliant with fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, cheese cereal and tarts. The waiters even brewed fresh personal coffee servings to order. The setting is beautiful. It is situated right on the river […] Arno and a dam in the river makes it look like you have your own personal waterfall to look out on. The hotel just opened in May and is a beautifully restored mill with original paintings on every wall and an outdoor pool that is actually fed by the river (cleaned and purified of course) that has a bridge above it and a fountain in the middle. We did find that there was a great little pizzaria down the street that was cheaper to have dinner. It is a bit of a walk to downtown Florence, but there is free shuttle service to and from the hotel between 9am-7pm. Also the 71, and 23 bus runs 24 hours and drops you off two minutes from the hotel. It's only 1.20 euro a ride (2 euros if you pay the driver directly so buy your bus tickets at the convenience store) and is super convenient. I'd prefer it to being right downtown. They are still expanding the hotel to eventually include a winery, a conference centre with a second pool on top, and a spa, which was not currently open, but underway August 2010. This hotel made our honeymoon in Florence that much more magical and I sincerely hope that one day we will stay there again. Read more
