This hotel is located an hour away from the Punta Cana airport. It's a very cozy and small resort in comparison to other I've been before in DR. Been so closely located to the beach it's convenient to stay in any house as the walk to the beach is not more than 5 minutes. The rooms are clean, with a nice view to either the ocean or the pools. The resort […] overall is extremely clean and its always a pleasure to walk without shoes. The food was very delicious and every night their buffet prepares a different cuisine. You also can make reservations to different restaurant and have a sit down dinner. The only downside to the stay was the entertainment. Once dinner comes the only option was a dinner and probably the dance club. During the 6 days stay we only saw once a dance variety show. Also the crowd who stays there is mostly with ages between 45-65. So if you're younger than this you might find it a bit challenging to have fun. Having done a few vacations in Mexico we thought we would try a new destination without taking too much risk. So we booked another Iberostar resort. We were not disappointed. Iberostar resorts seem to have a common thread - meticulously maintained grounds, clean facilities, a friendly staff, good food and enough activities to keep anyone entertained […] all at a very affordable price. The four specialty restaurants are far superior to the buffet but don't expect any food offerings to be stateside quality - it just isn't, but, hopefully, that's not why you are going there. Don't expect the entertainment to be Broadway quality - it isn't, but it is entertaining and the staff works very hard to make it a fun event. The resort appears to be a European favorite destination with ample German, Russian, French and Spanish influence so don't expect English to be the spoken language - in fact, it is the minority. You can expect the drinks to be weak but there are enough bars to make up for the quality with quantity. Or, you can just relax on the beach or by the pool and not worry about all that stuff - now that's something you can expect from Iberostar Hacienda Dominicas. Read more

We went to DR for our anniversary trip and had a wonderful time at Iberostar. The hotel was colorful and clean with a beautiful beach and pool area. The food was good at the buffet but the specialty restaurants that we tried were excellent - the Japanese and Gourmet. We had a couple of minor problems as the service staff at night did not speak English too well and thus had delays in getting things fixed. We wanted a gateway far from New York for the Labor Day weekend. We spent 4 nights at this hotel with all inclusive. Everything you can think of is there, it's a little far from Santo Domingo Airport but the transfer time is worth it. Food is great, they have 4 different restaurants, snacks available all day long, drinks available all day long in the […] lobby, in the restaurants and at the pool and beach bars. Lot of activities are organized. Free kayak, catamaran snorkeling, wind surf. The beach is beautiful, lot of sun chair available, beach towels are provided. Different kind of bird species are all over the place, you don't have the feeling of being in a huge resort with a thousand of people it's peaceful. Staff is great, not everybody speaks English but it's enough for the interactions you have with them. I would just recommend to bring shoes to get in the water because at the spot where you board for catamaran and kayak there are a lot of rocks and you could injured your feet, out of that, the beach is perfect and the swimming area rocks free. We would have rated the comfort of the room a #5, if it would have been cooler in our room. We talked with another guest of the resort and they had the same issue with their room. Well I was very uncomfortable when I was picked up at the airport. 2 men in an unmarked van not speaking english taking me to the hotel. I thought I was being kidnapped. Reception wasn't superb. We had to wait 10 minutes inside the taxi outside the resort door because the security person could not understand properly our last name and confirm our reservation (over radio) with front-desk to let us in. After letting us in, as bellmen were occupied and we had to carry our own luggage. At front-desk we were asked for "the […] voucher". We said it was an Expedia reservation and they requested us to print the confirmation email. After providing the confirmation on written, we were finally able to check-in. Everything was prepared, but we requested to be moved to a different building. The front-desk clerk handed us a magic key and let us go to check two different rooms in different buildings. We chose to stay in building 7 which is the nearest to the beach, pool, kid's club and steak restaurant. Internet didn't work the first day (when we needed) and it was a pain in the finger to request a refund at check-out; even though they knew and accepted that internet did not work. When it works, they do have internet coverage in the pool area as well as on the beach. However, they don't have a mesh network and you will need to re-login every time you change location. Entertainment staff is fun to engage with. Aquatica free unmotorized sports are also very good. You can rent kayak, windsurf boards and catamarans for free. Restaurants fill up quickly. Reserve one day before. Plan your dining the first day, if possible, when you check-in. Read more

The first room we got didn't have a working air conditioner so it was pretty warm and humid, but the reception changed our room at our request without any hesitation or problems. The food at the buffet was very good and the specialty restaurants were excellent as well. They did show cooking at the Japanese which was very entertaining. The steaks at the steak house and the mexican restaurant was really good. The entertainment team was really fun and interactive. The evening shows were great as well, there was a lot of variety. The tour desk at the hotel offers many great trips if you want to see something outside the resort (not included in the price of the resort). The beach is really good, although there are some rocks and shells at the bottom but if you swim out further there is a sand bar with smooth sand and no rocks. After reading many reviews and hours of research, we decided to stay at this resort because of the wonderful reviews and recommdations. It also had wonderful meal options which we were looking forward to the most. Our trip was May 15th - May 20th, 2011. Room: Our room was comfortable and thoroughly cleaned everday. We always looked forward to the unique […] ways the towels would be folded. Our AC stopped working one day and Alex arrived within a couple hours of our call and promptly got it working again! Beach and Pool: Absolutely gorgeous. We spent hours snorkeling and collecting shells in the beautiful ocean. When we were not at the ocean, we were laying by the pool or swimming. The pool never felt too busy since there are so many seats and space to move around. Food: Unfortunately, the food did not meet the expectations that we had. The buffet had a wide variety and my boyfriend and I found some new and favorite foods. But our overall word for the food was "bland". The Colonial was enjoyable and one of our better meals of the trip. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and I would recommend this resort. If you don't speak Spanish, don't go here, If you don't want' to be bothered by locals selling their "****", don't go here. If you want to be taken care of at an all inclusive, don't go here! Food made us both sick, escecially the Mexican Restaurant (go figure!), no top shelf alcohol, no music by the pools, lots of kids, noisy, activities:minimal, "where […] u from?" "Not Here!". Very unfriendly staff to Americans as we chatted with a few. Euroopeans are Rude! I had read complaints about maintence being done of the resort. Yes, there was maintence being done but nothing where it interrupted the services. It was a very beautiful resort, not too big, not too little. Especially enjoyed the Mexican restaruant. Great place for snorkling, always got a chair on the beach or pool. Yes, early in the morning it was […] hard to get a good chair on the beach but it thinned out by noon. You could move your chair where you wanted on the beach. In general, I travel a lot and usually stay in a 5 star hotel i.e. Marriott...was really in DR to see my dad in Casa de Campo, yet had to stay in a hotel. Chose this Iberostar because I had loved the Punta Cana property back in 2000. Not a big club med singles swapper person so was happy to see most people were not the frat/bimbette types...a more sophisticated […] all inclusive! Used Carlos to get back and forth to Casa each day ($80RT) Positive points; beach is excellent, clean, spacious and pretty well monitored; the staff is extremely friendly (night front desk, Iberis? excellent Spanish tutor!), the pool is out of this world...warm, huge, great bar, sports activites (if you so desire), the bar lobby is a great hangout where you can get your cappachino or pina colada or the area specialty rums etc., disco good. Breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet has good variety and convenient. Since property is huge, it took me two days to realize there were two buffets, one near the lobby and one near the pool with the same food. I only ate once in one speciality restaurant, you need to make a reservation early, even a day or two ahead. Had lobster which was okay, no comparison to Maine lobster. Negatives: no wireless except in the lobby- $13 per day, health club has old equipment, the pool, spa and health club stay open only until til 7PM, don't bring jewelry at risk for being stolen, long check-out. The most beautiful beach and clear calm water. The property itself is in need of updating and repair. The pool needs revamping, needs new mattresses,chairs lounges and more umbrellas.
