Overall our stay at Iberostar Costa Dorada was a wonderful experience. The decor is lovely, tropical, and welcoming. The staff seem to love their jobs, happy staff = happy guests! Property is a little dated but staff is excellent as one would expect from Iberostar. Our room had some issues with leaky faucets in the bathroom, bad telephone and not-so-smooth main door. 5 Stars are relative to the $ you spend. This hotel provided BANG for the buck. The staff is great, friendly, helpful, knowlegable, I can't say enough about them. I generally enjoyed my stay at the Iberostar Costa Dorada. The beach was beautiful, with plenty of beach chairs and palapas for shade. Dive masters were very friendly and I always felt well taken care of on these trips. The food was also quite good (not outstanding, but what can you expect at an all inclusive?), with plenty of options, and I highly recomend the Brazilian restaurant. Now for the negatives. To be honest, I felt the hotel on the whole was badly in need of an update. There were no AC controls in the rooms, gym machines were run down, and I could not get conditioner! I went to the spa to have a mani/pedi (no time to do it before the trip) and there was only one woman there to do it (I wanted my friend to come with me but we would have had to go one at a time) and furthermore, the tools and techniques were straight from 1990. Make sure you stay on Tuesday and Wednesday!!!! There's paella on the beach on Tuesday afternoon 12:30 be there early and on Wednesday it's Dominican night in the buffet dining room El Mercado! It was awesome!! Every night there's a show and if you have kids they will be included in the show. It's really a good place for families, friends, couples, there's something for everyone! The property is well taken care of and it's super clean. You can't take food to your room from the restaurants but I think that's a good thing! Who wants ants in their bed ;-)! Pack your bug spray, sun block/tanning lotion, allergy meds, bandaids etc. because you will pay an arm and a leg for it in the gift shop if you forget! Lesson learned. Also, they had the wrong information about the stay of one of the three rooms I had. Iberostar - Dominican Republic - I'd recommend it. I just got back (3 Aug 12) and had a great time. Really no surprises. Minor Clitches every now and then, but nothing big. As this was the off season, not all the hotels Restaurants were open, but there was still a lot of variety and the hotel staff did an excellent job making every meal an adventure […] with different items on the buffet line to choose from. Don't have a lot of room so I'll cut to the chase: Travelled with my wife and twin daughters. Didn't know we each had to pay $10 to get into the country. Exchange rate at the airport was horrible, hotel was much much better - but too late for me - damage done. Better to order it from your own bank before departing. It seems as though you can do everything with U.S. Dollars. In fact, they kind of perferred it. i thought the Mexican and Brazilian restaurants in the holel were excellent. Need reservations (still part of your package). Men need to wear slacks -just like a cruise. Alcohol flowed with a good beer (Presidenti) and good wine and spirits. They won't have everything - but they did have good name brands. Excursions - Waterfall/zipline/horseback riding was the best, but pricy at $120 each. Shopping trip is worth taking first. they take you to a WalMart like store used by local lets you know what you should be paying. Our third trip to the Dominican Republic, and this was an excellent quality hotel. Not 5 star by American hotel standards, but a solid 4 star here and easily a 5 star DR resort. The rooms were very clean...actually impeccably clean...on our arrival, and the maid staff did an excellent job keeping them that way. We asked for (and were given) adjoining […] rooms on the first floor in Building 7, which was very close to the pool. The pool closes at 7 pm so there is no issue of noise from the pool, which happens at some of the "adult" resorts. The air conditioning was excellent...it was 93 every day (or more) and our rooms were nice and cool. You could adjust the AC from 1 to 3 (really fan speeds) but 3 kept the room colder so it was nice to have the ability to adjust. The bathrooms were very nice...nicer than some we've seen at two other resorts and online. Faux marble and tile...neat and clean. Spacious tub/shower and decent size single sink/counter. No issues with water, plumbing, toilet. Great hot water...never an issue all week in either of our two rooms. We had five of us and were given an extra bed by the staff without even asking for it. We assumed our wo girls would share a queen bed. Mattresses were firm but we all found them quite comfortable. The pool is HUGE...and was very clean. Would have liked to have seen one more bar on the "other" side of the pool from the towel hut. All in all a very nice hotel with friendly staff and great service. Read more

Another thing, book your excursions when you arrive there! When we arrived an Expedia representative met with us to confirm our flights home and to show us any excursions we wanted. It was A LOT cheaper to book the excursions when we arrived. They also offered us packages that I didn't see on Expedia website prior to the trip. This hotel was just OK. There are 9 separate three story building that house guests, there are no elevators. We "upgraded" to an ocean view room in the 1000 block room (closest to the beach and pool, furthest from the lobby and main buffet restaurant). We had room with a king size bed and also included a seating area. The furnishings are a bit outdated, […] but not terrible. The bed was older but not uncomfortable. There are several lights throughout the room, but no overhead lighting. It rained for our entire stay and by the end the room had a definite musty smell to it. There was a flat screen TV with multiple English channels. but it had a terrible buzz to it. There's a mini bar in the room that includes sodas, waters and a few beers, that is restocked every other day. Other All-Inclusives I've stayed at also included Liquor dispensers in the room, being that it was raining most of the time & our room was so far from the hotel lobby, this feature would have come in handy at this hotel. The food was OK, nothing amazing - preferred the buffet to the ala cart options. The pool is large so doesn't feel crowded and the water temp was warm. Chairs around the pool abundant. The beach was dirtier than expected. The resort cleaned the beach in front of the hotel, but if you walk down the beach, there was a lot of garbage washed up on shore.
