We choose the 30 USD per person breaklfast option - and it started already with a letter telling us that the breakfast is NOT in the restaurant, but in the lobby. The room was awesome. Very clean and the sheets were fresh which is very important. Service at the restaurant in the lobby area was really slow. I was trying to make it to a concert at the Arie Crown and figured we could catch a quick bite first. I ordered a salad and my husband ordered a bowl of soup. All of the staff was very pleasant, courteous, helpful, ready to lend a helping hand & words of advice to travelers unfamiliar with the lay of the land, the fast pace of Chicago. Everything about the room was immaculately cleaned & in good condition. The mood of the room was very soothing, relaxing, in spite of the rush outside the hotel. This hotel blew away all my expectations - you really get what you pay for. It would normally be outside my budget, but I used a Welcome Rewards night to bring it down. My fiance and I stayed for two nights while she was looking at law schools in the area, a Friday and Saturday night. When we first arrived, the doorman greeted us and had a nice conversation […] with my fiance while I tried to pay for the cab (the driver's credit card reader was really slow). The front desk people could not have been nicer and gave us perfect directions to the room - it is actually kind of a weird layout, with lots of turns. The room itself was gorgeous, the bathroom especially - huge glass shower stall, separate tub that could fit two people, huge vanity. My fiance was incredibly excited about the bathroom, and she is very picky. The doorman gave us great walking directions on several occasions to nearby attractions and amenities. The location for business travelers is superb, i.e. within a block of the Willis Tower. The staff and layout is very conducive to the business traveler. Sad! The reality is that the hotel was a good choice, but the fact that the bell-boy stole my passport & wallet (containing quite a sum of money) from my stored luggage was completely unacceptable! The JW Marriott is a beautifully restored historic building, short walk to Willis Tower, Grant Park, Michigan Ave, Art Institute etc. We found it a great choice for a weekend getaway in Chicago. Spotless room, excellent bathroom, helpful service. Only negatives were charge for wi-fi and swimming pool closed.
